When you already know that your rbs are bad, oline is bad, safeties are bad and roman cant and never been able to call good passing concepts…., it dnt even surprise you when we have a game like this..

Why does John pick such shitty OCs? Is it because of his big ego? Gotta remain alpha or what.

Quick perspective check, it's a stinker of a loss off a short week. A surprisingly large number of good teams have lost to bad teams within the last week, must be something in the air.

But, we're still leading the AFCN, we've got a mini-bye and given how even-keeled the AFC is we can probably squeak into the playoffs with a .500 record on our remaining games, which is all I expected at the start of the season. Anything past that is gravy for me given the injuries.

Also, Roman is the OC that helped Lamar to an MVP season, Martindale has coached a highly ranked defense in recent years and Harbaugh is one of the top head coaches going. Plus the trio have lead us to the playoffs for a few years in a row now.

We'll be okay the rest of this season. We'll be on fire next season. Life is good!

That was ugly.

But everyone has off days.

Short week after an OT game.

We're better than that, just not as good as we've become used to over the past 3 years.

On to the next week.

Also what is up with the sudden surge of 'fire Roman' comments? We're just a few weeks removed from people giving him props for developing an explosive downfield passing game, we're playing with running backs we found on Craigslist, and the OL is battered to breaking point. The offense has been good most of the year - coaches have bad games too. We're always veering from one extreme to the other on here.

Oweh got his 4th sack and Bateman once again looked legit. Houston got #100. Other than that, yeah I’ve got nothing

The D as a whole wasn't elite but it was pretty stout. We only gave up 2.7 yds per run and they had a ~50% completion rate. There were a couple of big plays, but keeping any offense to 15pts when your own offense is constantly turning the ball over is a solid performance.

Well we already had a big off day against the Bengals at home.
We could just as easily collapse the rest of the season with the injuries we have.

If we see anything close to this again I swear to god Roman needs to be right out the door with no hesitation. This is elementary shit to beat in the nfl, RUN A FUCKING QUICK SLANT! Seriously it’s that simple. Run. A fucking. Slant. And again. And again. And fucking again until they start dropping blitzers. Then run a slant elsewhere. Rinse and repeat for fucks sake. Greg Roman can be so brilliant with his blocking schemes but he is still such a fucking amateur in his passing concepts. If he sees this same approach at any point this season and he doesn’t shred tf out of it, or at least show an understanding of how to beat it, he’s gotta go, straight up.

this was the single worst coordinated game I’ve seen for the ravens.
I was screaming the exact same thing.

Then they did it. And Watkins fumble sixed-it to seal the game essentially.

So yeah that was fun.

I need to see the All 22 of this game... I'm too angry to go to sleep and watching back what Kurt Warner and Steve Smith Sr. said, and I just can't help but think the way Warner broke it down is the same thing happening again. Route wise we just aren't helping Lamar at all, there is no creativity, this explains why are receivers can't get separation. Either Roman goes or Harbaugh goes if he continues to be too stubborn and not fire Roman.

For those who don't remember here's the links to what Warner and Smith said...

Steve Smith:

Kurt Warner:

how is any of this in any way applicable to the 2021 season? Our receivers have been great this year... our passing game has been great this year...

I'm honestly unsure about two things. One why is our defense always so confused? What happened? How did they go from I know what play we're running and will tackle someone if they come my way to welp I have no idea what's going on and eh someone else will tackle him. It's truly disgusting. When I look at our defense, I only ever see 4 players playing with huge EFFORT. Stephens, Oweh, Houston, and Campbell. Other than those guys, effort levels seem just average to sometimes below average.

Second thing I can't understand. How do you have no answer for engage eight? And on top of that why was the only attempted solution, 4 failed screens with no blockers? Maybe also attempt to throw the quick out to the RB which also failed twice. Other than tbat we just let ourselves get sacked and throw incomplettions and interceptions. Where were the slants? Where was Tomlinson and Ricard to chip guys off the edge? Where was anything under center? Where was any trick play? Where was a fake punt? We've seen when this team js getting its shit kicked in but the OL is not a dumpster fire, Lamar js magic. When the team is getting its shit kicked in and the OL is a dumpster fire, they just take the pounding. This game and the Bengals one. They just take it and don't do anything different. That's gotta be because there is no mental answer. Can't say we don't have the receiving talent to win against the blitz. Bateman was murdering his guy every play he had more than 1.5 seconds of a route.

Every week we're seeing more of a league that can control, not stop but control our running game. The passing game can be good but it can also be inept. That's on coaching not players. I don't understand how Greg Roman isn't publicly apologizing.

I don’t get this reactionary talk about roman - it’s one game where we couldn’t solve a problem...

after 8 games where the design and play calling has been great...

People are freaking out because it's not just one game. I think it's overboard to say he needs to go, especially mid season and especially in a season like this. That seems crazy. HOWEVER, it is well documented and obvious what his shortcomings are. Those shortcomings are also in what are typically thought of as very basic areas like throwing a slant on an 8 man blitz. He seems to not know that. We always have guys running right into defenders and stopping. People take way too much for granted that a crazy amount of our yards are from broken and circus catch plays by Mandrews and Hollywood, our two guys that improvise the most. We so infrequently drop back in a clean pocket and have a beautiful passing concept have a guy running wide open. Way more frequently Lamar has used his athleticism to buy 4.5 seconds and Andrews has the elite ability to find an ad libed soft spot.

Except it's not just one game. It's the Bills playoff loss where we only score a Field Goal. It's the fact that every playoff game we kept scoring less and less points. Chargers it was 17, Titans it was 12 then Buffalo 3. It's the same thing over and over with Roman.

The unimaginative so predictable play calling, zero awareness to adjusting what the defense is giving you. Like how does Miami run the same thing over and over and there is no adjustments being made to stop it. We've reached Cam territory with Roman, time to take the handcuffs off Lamar.

but I don’t think that stuff about route combos is accurate at all - passing concepts have been pretty good all year... you’re over-reacting to an awful game

because this stuff hasn’t been happening all year

in fact we spent the last 4 days talking about how the ravens have been great in the 2nd half because they have been able to adjust and take what the defence gave them - and a lot of that is roman’s playcalling

one awful night does not an awful season make

This team is a mess. It's hard to say, but it's not hard to see. The tackling is atrocious and we have no identity on OFF. That is not a good recipe for any kind of successful run AT the Playoffs, much less a run IN the Playoffs. I sort of felt this coming. Easy to say afterwards, but, generally, I'm not sold on this team, so I never feel any game is a lock.

yeah i dont get it - you've got bateman, watkins and duvernay who are all great on slants - and bateman and duvernay were both dangerous after the catch on slants in college... i think both had multiple huge plays off that route

you could even run double backside slants of RPOs... give lamar 2 options on the backside based on where the single high safety commits

i think the one slant we ran was the first 3rd down conversion we had all day on the catch to bateman...

the stuff that beat the ravens today was all high school football level stuff - it was basic man vs zone coverage busts on defence and it was basic cover-1 and cover-0 blitzing that screwed us on offence
We don’t even need the rpo, just play action double backside slants. What I don’t get is why the fuck were they running sticks coverage and our receivers were schemed to run to the sticks and stop…
