Perriman and WR Hype

I can pick that post apart with the silliness in it.

First off "average" since the playoffs is 2 seasons and requires you ignore 2 years ago when the entire team was on IR and tgis year when they were 1 yard off being division champs.

Then there is this "pathetic" oline which has a budding superstar in Stanley a current superstar and future hall of famer in Yanda, Lewis who started to look good before his injury slowed his progression, and an upgradr at center. So the RT is worse than last year and that makes the oline pathetic.
I am normally very optimistic but i like to think im a realist, but i actually do see some of his points.

He is clearly right about the cap space.

We have been very average since the SB, which im not sure if thats what he meant to say or not, but since the SB i think we are 500 give or take two games, cant remember.

I wouldnt say we were one yard from being division champs either. Still would of had to beat Cinci, which we always struggle with, especially close out games. When is the last time we beat them to end the season? So thats not a given.

I think most fans on here would say the OL is their biggest concern, yes we have a LT for the future and a HoF G who is going on 33 who was playing injured. Lewis has potential but he will be playing a new position, we have no clue how thats going to go. Center im extremely worried about and i think most are. So concerns about the OL imo are easily warranted. Glad your optimistic about the OL, i just dont see how.

I dont agree with his take on Joe, but for the most part he is making valid points, he just oversells a bit sometimes. Also, damn you. Damn you to hell for making me defend him. I shall never forget this.

Cinci was a free win. That game was basically 2 teams that just did not want to playing or winning and it showed so if the Ravens had a reason to play it would have been an easy win.

Second the only reason the Ravens were not representing the AFC 2 years after the Super Bowl title was that there best offensive weapon AND best defensive weapon went down and even starting a CB who was terrible they still made it to the divisional round and almost beat the Pats. If literally ANY competent corner was starting that game the Ravens take down the Pats in that game, they changed there entire offense in the second half to pick about the bad CB.

The Ravens even during the streak of years with playoff births never had these deep runs they would just sneak in and then make it to the divisional round or championship game. Getting there has always been the ugly part for the Ravens but once they get there they always seem to leave there mark (if Cinci could learn that trick they might actually be seen as a real threat).

I think you missed the point where I'm pointing out that his points are his opinions, not facts, just like what you are saying. That's all. Most of the time I disagree with him because he is extremely negative, but here and there he makes valid points and does add to the conversation. You make valid points as well.

Also, to say it was a free win against Cinci I don't buy, you really think they wouldn't have wanted to Ruin our playoff hopes? Maybe we would have won, but it certainly wouldn't have been a given.

I Too think we could have made it to the sb in 14 with a starting caliber cb.

I always considered 12 and 14 mirror years of each other where in each year one of the teams was missing there best offensive playmaker who was a TE AND there shut down corner which meant that in each year the other team narrowly won.

Also the spoiler role is probably nice motivation but being the spoiler FOR the Steelers who the Bengals hate even more is probably a double edged sword that would be hard to feel motivated to do.

without jinxing anything id like to point out that it seems like perriman "won" minicamp as well as OTAs - and the best part is it looks like a lot of his highlights etc. are coming while up against jimmy (obvs not great for jimmy but he's never been a big camp standout and camp is always geared towards the offense)

its crazy that with the signing of maclin, if perriman makes the leap in the way that his camp suggests then suddenly this wr group looks amazing (the problem will be if no one elevates themselves which of course is still possible) - but if perriman can develop finally into a number 1 type receiver then penciling in maclin and wallace into number 2 and 3 roles suddenly looks ominous which would be a crazy turn of events after the pessimism i think we all felt / feel about this group - amazing what one signing and a good bit of camp buzz can do for your optimism

I can't wait to see what he's going to do this season. I loved that 53 yard TD against the Dolphins so I'd like a few more of them please:lol:.

From the highlights, it looks like Perriman is much more complete, like he can catch any type of pass at any level and use his physical tools more than he did last year. Just seeing him run and not get hindered is refreshing, really hope he continues to stack practices and build chemistry with Joe.

My gut tells me I'm less worried about perriman. He may have turned a corner ( pun intended) and worked on his game. His physical attributes are elite as they come. With maclin and wallace as the othet two guys, i'm not concerned about our WR core.

the O line needs, IMO, 3 really good players and 2 average ones to be effective. We have 2 really good players and the rest are average to below average to unproven.

We need 1 more stud in those 3 positions in question and the other two just need to be average.

There were a lot of people on Ravens Message boards calling Perriman a bust as recently as the end of the season. Now I know OTAs am minicamp aren't real games, but it certainly looks as though he is going to be a very good receiver for us.

There were a select few that always believed he would break out but knew it would take time, especially when you don't have a training camp.

its just absurd how few that "select few" group had. People really don't understand the leap from college to NFL and how important training camp reps are.

You don't have time to learn technique and get valuable 1-on1 time with coaches and veterans in practice, that's all about playbook and game plan execution. Training camp is where young players gain the most development BY FAR.

And chemistry with your QB.
