The Bad, The Ugly, and the Pathetic

Final thought of the game-

Do not forget-- the Ravens D only allowed 10 of 40 pts in the first half, and along with keeping the deficit small the only points we scored were off an interception on good field position. So the defense played good to begin the game, while our offense struggled to move the ball.

The offenses punted 3 times in the first half and barely moved the ball even going into the start of the second half where we settled for a FG on our first offensive possession of the 2nd half. Thereafter the trampling began. Our offense had it's chances but mostly struggled.

Last week as well where before the Ravens final 2 drives Lamar was at 149 yards passing no scores and a large deficit because of it. He finished with 267 passing yards after accounting for 118yds passing on the final 2 scoring drives of the game that only have the Ravens a chance at a one score game with 2min left in the 4th. This is garbage time production given the game was already out of reach. Dont give up I get that, but we again had opportunities to score on the chiefs but failed to do so until it was too late.

Our entire team needs a wake up call right now, moreso the defense but the offense has been highly mediocre given its the only good thing we have at the moment.

So far through the first quarter of games we are a slightly better offensive team than last year, but still shaky obviously. And a far worse defense than last year, but a defense that seems to be missing a piece or 2 as well as too notch communication and chemistry. Maybe Brandon snd Jimmy are the first step to improving, but time waits for no one so hopefully we can improve.

Effort too, when your 50 million dollar safety so called leader openly admits to quitting on a long Td play because he wants to avoid a hammy injury...Lord please help us

Aside from people not liking Kaep he’s largely irrelevant which is another good reason to stop bringing him up lol

But seriously folks I don’t understand the hyper scrutiny of Lamar being today’s theme given the way this mess played out. He was meh on a day when most everyone else was hot garbage. Hes got a ways to go but he’s young and still growing. There are multiple other areas of our game that are more concerning.
I called out Greg Roman for poor offensive production to start this season, specifically calling a run play on 3rd and 6 today with the game on the line.

Someone called this claim of mine "ridiculous" that Greg Roman has never worked with a good QB until Lamar Jackson and last time I checked Kaep wss pretty good. He put up historic stats during his first playoff games and nearly won a super bowl.

I'd say that is pretty good wouldn't you? The other person disagreed and claimed Kaep was never a good QB. I hate to break it to ya but if Kaep is not at the very least good Idk what that makes Lamar.

But my point was moreso that Marty Morenenehig used to run the ball on 2nd or 3rd and long precisely why he is no longer the OC. Our offense as awhole has been mediocre at best this year outside of a great running game which is a no brainier given our personnel.

There is no argument for saying that we put up points when it was over considering that could have been in position to win the game. If the Chiefs don't convert on that screen pass we have a chance to go down the field and win. Also ask your self what if we converted at least of those two point tries? At least in that scenario a FG would send it to overtime.
All im saying is that every single game lamar has lost in the nfl, most his yards came in the 4th quarter while we were losing... end resulting? No comebacks and 3 L’s with a whole bunch extra yards gained.

I like lamar. We are def gonna make things happen with him its just gonna take some time.

Honestly I slept on this game and I think someone should be fired, whether that’s a coach or player cut, after this game. That’s how bad this was. A total defensive meltdown. Nobody on defense looked good except a handful of guys. This is a disgrace to Ravens defense. Eric & Ozzie should also answer for this because they set up this “team”. They had to know this interior OL had issues pass blocking and edge defenders were garbage rushing the passer. We’re getting screened to death and Lamar has little time to throw because dudes are getting free releases up the middle and disrupting him. He’s holding the ball too long trying to make a pot and that’s cool he has that confidence but he needs to learn to throw it away as well. I called that we had interior OL issues and had major concerns for edge defender and I wasn’t alone. If I could see it then I know we had to see it. Eric and Ozzie have some real answering to do here.

People, our offense is #1 ranked statically and regardless we're talking about an offense that has put points on the board and only has 3 turnovers through 3 games. I don't see why there's a huge need to criticize the offense. I understand it's not perfect and yes, there are flaws but our defense is where the heat should be applied on.

Peanut has been a huge bust this year, poor positioning and he cannot diagnose plays back there. He should NOT be your primary ILB. I'm sorry but that's just the truth of the matter on that end. I legit think ILB should be our biggest priority in the draft and who ever is the best ILB should be our first pick. I'm just over the guys we have now.

Also, I think Brandon Williams slander should no longer be tolerated again. I think we all understand how important of a player he is and now I'm convinced that he's the most important player on our defense. Man, I cannot imagine how difficult it's going to be to replace him because damn he's so important.
I think for as much as some fans (not all) think that Williams and Jimmy are overrated, I think them (and Tavon) not being in the lineup is a lot bigger problem than people realize.

getting Jimmy back will be very helpful. I absolutely do not want to give up two 1sts. That would be awfully steap for a corner.

They are merely solid players. Borderline pro bowlers in a good season. If that's whats keeping this team from being good then the issues are real. Tavon is a solid nickel but he's hardly a world beater. B.Will is a good run stuffer that's maybe the worst pass rushing DT in the league and Jimmy is basically a shadow of the player he was.

Sorry but if those guys are our KEY players then we have to point the finger at the FO.

We need to target for our FA the following

Joe Thuney
Tyler Boyd
Chris Jones
J.Clowney

Then use the draft to build the ILB and Secondary

I suggest we let all our FA's WALK.

Focus on his improvements i would like to if we were 4-0 but we are not. Defense has been worse but Lamar has had plenty of opportunities including today to put up points but he fails and are we supposed to treat him better than Flacco? Flacco used to get steam rolled for so many years with far less talent than lamar has had on offense. Lamar has gotten more talent the past 2 seasons then Flacco got his entire career. Same excuses for Flacco too "lack of talent", "drops", defense can't get off the field, bad OC, offensive system. Etc etc.

Bottom line is although Lamar has improved what do we have to show for it? We beat 2 rebuilding teams that won't make the playoffs and lost to 2 playoff caliber teams.

Lamar has played poorly, mediocre. Make excuses all you like but unless Lamar shows out against the Seahawks, Pats, Rams or Browns and proves himself that even with good D bad D, drops do happen, remember Lee Evans?! there are savage pass rushers out there...until Lamar proves he can lead this offense to meaningful wins this year then what good are his minor improvements.
Right now? Nothing to show for it. But they're also not going to quit playing football after this season, so there will be time for those improvements to translate into more W's.

Like I said before... with the way the defense has played the last two weeks, I think the way Lamar has played is largely irrelevant. If we scored more, the other team would just simply score more.

You know why Mahomes is smiling at the end of the KC game? Its not because he's not afraid of Lamar. Its because he's not afraid of our defense. If Lamar gets them back in the game, Mahomes just hands somebody his beer, goes out, and throws another TD pass. And he could do it and do it easily, because he'd already seen everything we had and wasn't afraid of it.

My biggest issues with the offense are:
We're still pretending like teams are stopping the run, and so we keep thinking we can hit big plays. Since about middle of the Cardinals game, teams have been gameplanning to take the big, downfield shots away. That means you should be pounding the rock until you make the defense defend it. In the KC game, we were about two quarters late to that thought process, and yesterday, we started out the same way. We're using the pass to setup the run. When your defense is playing a team that can't score, that works. When your defense starts giving up big play after big play, by the time you switch to the run game, its too late.

I don't think the offense is quite scoring the points we'd like during closer games, but I think that will come too.

As for Lamar, he's obviously still got issues as a passer. I don't know why you would expect that not to be the case, because again, you're talking like less than a full season of actual starts and 4 games in an offense that's actually built for you. AND, you're throwing to young guys.

I think the garbage time stat argument falls flat yesterday, because if you start discounting the TDs as "garbage stats", then you discount the turnovers too, because they occurred during the same time frame. So you either count both, or neither. Both get you back to an average QB performance, but frankly, that's what I expected. I've seen the Browns defense. It's going to be one of the better one's in the league and definitely one of the better one's the Ravens will face. You beat them by running. They may have had a banged up secondary, but they didn't have a banged up pass rush, and that was obvious.

I’m just not understanding why everything in the middle of the field is open. The nearest defender is 5 to 10 yards off. And what’s with putting Carr in the slot and our worst Corner on the outside? Our personnel is so screwed up it’s laughable. Only saving grace on defense is Marlon. McPhee is purely depth. Our Ends our atrocious. Tony Jefferson looks like he doesn’t belong in the league. It’s just really bad all over
1. You move Carr in the slot because you basically have nobody else that can play there. You gonna put Canady or Averett in the slot? Landry would have 300 yards instead of 180. Many teams have really quality receivers who play the slot, so if you want your 2nd best Corner against their second best receiver, its usually going to be a slot guy.
Wait until we play the likes of New England or the Rams. You like guys like Canady or Averett in one on one matchups with Edelman and Cupp in the slot? 10 catches is the floor for that group.
2. The reason the middle of the field is so wide open is because of our secondary injuries, we're playing a lot of zone. That means linebackers are covering the short, and safeties are covering the back. That leaves the middle uncovered. Our linebackers are horrendous in pass coverage, and the league knows it.
The injury to Jimmy (and to a lesser extent Tavon) means we can't just play man coverage like we want to. This defense is built on having physical, press corners, like Marlon, Jimmy and Carr, with Safety help. That allows us to blitz more. We can't do that now. That means you get a lot of TEs and RBs in single coverage against linebackers. Most teams in the league will eat that up all day long. Look at our offense... we do. If Andrews has single coverage, Lamar is throwing it to him 100% of the time, regardless of whether he's open or not. Teams are doing it to us.

Injuries being what they are, any sort of pass rush would probably help with this. There was very little of that the last two games.

The Browns have one of the nastiest fronts in football, so I put the Oline issues on par with playing great talent across from them. The Oline has been competent enough to not make Lamar that uncomfortable for most of the time this season, and obviously, they're doing their job in the run game.
Pass rush is a huge concern that we largely can't do anything about.
IF I were making personnel changes, I'd be looking at playing Jefferson less, and I'd be looking at getting even more Dime packages (we already play this a lot) with better coverage guys. I want to see the snap counts from this game, but I want to see more of like Clark/Elliott, and less of guys like Kenny Young or Chris Board. Even less of Onwausor wouldn't be a bad thing at this point. They're all liabilities in pass coverage.

@Militant X 1

have you been texting your 'girls fan friend. I mean, they are losing to a team playing with their backup QB. Sheesh and I thought they were supposed to be Americas Team. F that.

Hell yeah!

I have been blowing his phone and Facebook direct messages up! He's been silent but I don't care-I got to give him this work! I been telling him;

"WHO DAT NATION BOOTED (KICKED 4 FIELD GOALS) DEM BUMZ RIGHT OUT OF THE BIG EAZY!"

You make a valid but further reinforce my point that Kapernick was also a tremendous QB for a time even though he was still an inaccurate passer and like you said "he was never a good QB". But still got paid a huge contract, looked at as the face of the franchise all of that and we all know how that finished for him. I could also mention Cam Newton too and his MVP caliber athletic abilty, it's cool in the regular season, makes you a contender which is exciting and I don't want to take that for granted. But obviously when it came time to throw , Cam and Kaep both suffered the same fate in the super bowl.

I do not want that for Lamar, want him to be a proven passer who can make plays from the pocket and still run wild.

So to be content, and just let his slight improvements but overall mediocre and inconsistent stats slide... He has to be better. Only excuse he gets from me is the fact that win lose or draw even if he ends up being the worst QB in the league, Lamar deserves another year or 2 to continue developing. He is indeed worth it. Still early plenty of time left to improve and the defense is looking like a franchise worst.

Who remembers a few years ago when Odell torched us for over 200 yards and multiple TDs in an upset win. Our defense has certainly put plenty of bad performances over the years. Aj Green too has dropped 200+yds on us same with AB over the years. Remember the browns TE gary barnidge who toasted us for big numbers?! lol But typically even after bad performances our defense tends to find a way to rebound.

We should get healthy and just work harder and play better. Earl Thomas openly admitted he gave up on the long TD play because of the fear of hurting his hamstrings lol no excuses. Bad play is bad play. Lazy play is lazy play.
I do remember that game a couple years ago where Odell torched us for over 200 yards. He was shut down by Jimmy for the first half until he went down with another one of his injuries. Same with AJ Green, I believe the majority of really good games against us were without Jimmy. Yes, our defense has put together some bad performances in the past, but the difference with this defense is the front seven communication and not being able to stop the run. That is what makes this worst then any of those performances.

lmfao, post his number and we all will do the same... (kidding of course)

Losing all 3 sucks, injuries happen so if you take Jimmy then fine, but BWill too?! Damn, gotta take two of 3 of our most important players.
