Year by Year Salary Cap
Thanks for doing this. I'm wondering if the reason it went down was due to the rookie salary cap. Prior to 2011 and the uncapped year the NFL didn't have a rookie cap and of course Sam Bradford had that groundbreaking 50m contract as a 1st year rookie.

Maybe but that was one thing I sided with the owners on. Unproven rookies shouldn't be the highest players in the league but them damn owners do that to themselves and their lawyers got to dig them out of it. Hope the players get a better deal. Get rid of the 5th yr option and making sure they have permanent medical coverage even if they only play a year for football caused injuries. For the owners the 17th game. Drop a preseason game and lets get it on!!

totally agree, we need that rookie pool, but have a feeling the franchise tag either gets eliminated or the cost of using the tag increases. That and the the players don't like the 5th year option. If those get eliminated, something else has to give.

i think the franchise tag is gone honestly - no way the players allow that tool to stay - or at least built in there would have to be some injury-related guarantees - or it locks in the deal at top 3 positional money rather than top 5 and locks the player up for 2 years fully guaranteed or something

honestly i think its not going to stay
i think the 5th year option might stay

I don't have an issue with the franchise tag going, but certainly believe the 5th year option is an important tool and could really make it difficult to build a team without it, unless the salary cap goes up a lot.
