'Zero chance' Brady retires after Super Bowl

In an interview with ESPN's Jeff Darlington, Tom Brady confirmed there is "zero chance" that Super Bowl LIII will be his final game.

Walking off with a win over the Rams—who Brady faced in his first Super Bowl 17 years ago—would be a magical capper to a storybook career, but apparently the future Hall of Famer has not entertained that possibility. Brady maintained that his plan is still to play until he's 45. That's ambitious, though as he proved a week ago in Kansas City, the 41-year-old is still a force to be reckoned with. Next week's title game in Atlanta will mark Brady's third straight Super Bowl appearance.

Redskins expect Alex Smith to miss 2019
3119.jpg

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Redskins are "planning as if" Alex Smith (leg) will miss all of 2019.

Smith was recently seen wearing a massive brace on his broken leg at a Washington Wizards game and obviously has a long way to go in his recovery. Per Rapsheet, the Redskins will be "pleasantly surprised" if Smith makes it back before the end of 2019. Coming off multiple surgeries for an infection to his injured leg, there's no guarantee the 34-year-old will play another NFL snap. With Smith's future in question, Washington needs to think long and hard about drafting a quarterback this offseason. Nick Foles, Teddy Bridgewater and Joe Flacco (when the Ravens inevitably release him) will also be possibilities should the Redskins address their quarterback need in free agency.

Bears give RT Bobby Massie new four-year deal

Bears re-signed RT Bobby Massie to a four-year contract.

It's reportedly worth more than $8 million per year, making Massie one of the five highest-paid right tackles. 29-year-old Massie has spent the last three seasons in Chicago after spending his first four in Arizona. Massie received strong marks from Pro Football Focus for his pass blocking in 2018.

Drew Lock is a next QB bust.

Report: John Elway 'smitten' with Drew Lock
According to the Denver Post's Mark Kiszla, the "worst kept secret at the Senior Bowl" was that Broncos GM John Elway is "smitten" with Missouri QB Drew Lock.

The Broncos pick at No. 10 overall, behind the also-quarterback-needy Giants (No. 6) and Jaguars (No. 7). Per the Denver Post's Ryan O'Halloran, Elway "barely left the quarterback group" during his three-day stay in Mobile. Lock is highly thought of from an upside standpoint, but he completed under 57 percent of his college throws and struggled against top competition. Incumbent Broncos starter Case Keenum lost a supporter when the team let Gary Kubiak out the door.

From everything I’ve seen so far I don’t think I’m gonna have a single first round grade on a qb this year...

Schefter on twitter:

Tom Brady’s been playing for so long, he already has his own coaching tree. Former Patriots’ backup QB Kliff Kingsbury is now the Cardinals’ head coach and former Patriots’ QB Kevin O’Connell is now the new Washington OC.
Well this is really sad

Roger Goodell: "We'll look at replay again, but it doesn't cover "judgement calls"

“We will look again at instant replay,” Goodell said. “Should replay be expanded? It does not cover judgment calls. This was a judgment call. The other complication is this was a no-call, and our coaches and clubs have been very resistant, and there has not been support to date, of having a replay assistant or somebody in New York throw a flag when there has not been a flag on the field.”

Um....... does someone want to tell Goodell that determining if a player caught a ball is a judgement call. That determining how hard a QB got hit and whether to throw a flag for roughing is a judgement call. Whether or not there was enough contact to tell if it was PI or say I don't know Helmet to Helmet is a judgement call. All flags are a judgement call, holding is done on every play but was one player holding too much more than others to make a judgement call to throw a flag for holding.

There is a difference in intentionally not throwing a flag in order to get a certain outcome(which happened but Saints fans and lawyers need to just shut up about it already) and throwing a flag in order to follow the rules that have been in place all season long.

Melvin Gordon waiting on Le'Veon Bell to sign
10284.jpg

Melvin Gordon said he'll wait for Le'Veon Bell to sign before considering a contract extension.

"I’m sitting back waiting, waiting on Bell," Gordon admitted Wednesday on NFL Media's "Around the NFL" podcast. "I’m glad it’s changing because we [running backs] were getting devalued for a little bit." Teams have been reluctant to dish out huge contracts to running backs, but Bell has a chance to change that when he hits the market this offseason. If Bell gets paid, so should Gordon. A deal might not come together right away, but Gordon remains confident that he'll be able to stay in Los Angeles. "I know we’ll figure something out and the Chargers are going to be my home for awhile," said the talented 25-year-old. Gordon is due $5.6 million in the final year of his rookie deal.
