Julius Peppers announced his retirement after 17 seasons.

Peppers, 39, was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 draft and won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after recording 12 sacks in just 12 games. Peppers spent the first eight years of his career with the Panthers before striking a mammoth free-agent deal with the Bears and spending four years there before a three-year stint with the Packers. Peppers returned to Carolina in 2017 with 11 sacks as a 37-year-old. Peppers' 159.5 career sacks rank fourth all time behind Bruce Smith, Reggie White, and Kevin Greene. He also picked off 11 passes. Peppers was a nine-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro and missed only six games in his career. He made just as big of an impact off the field. Peppers is a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

That’s big news. Always knew the Panthers let him go to soon when he signed with the Bears.

Should be surefire HOF.

No to PI being reviewable.

the game is too slow as it is. It would be UNBEARABLE.
I'm with you on this .. but perhaps not for the same reason.

if it is a part of the existing set of coach's challenges, it won't slow the game down significantly. Yes, there will be more cases where a coach will use all of his challenges and so overall there will be more challenges raised, but not a huge hit on slowing down the game.

The question is - is it on a flag they want picked up - or when PI occurs and no flag is thrown, or both? When is the call on the field going to get overturned? There are clear rules on things like a fumble and I feel like the definition of a catch has been made a bit clearer than in the past. But PI is such a judgement call ... what is or is not enough to overturn is so gray. I think you'll have as much controversy over what was overturned in one game and wasn't in another leading to basically the same inconsistency.

I think sometimes we just have to live with humans making these calls in real-time and hope that no one is so freaking stupid as to have such an abomination of a no call as what we saw in the NFC Championship.

Redskins expect Alex Smith to miss 2019
3119.jpg

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Redskins are "planning as if" Alex Smith (leg) will miss all of 2019.

Smith was recently seen wearing a massive brace on his broken leg at a Washington Wizards game and obviously has a long way to go in his recovery. Per Rapsheet, the Redskins will be "pleasantly surprised" if Smith makes it back before the end of 2019. Coming off multiple surgeries for an infection to his injured leg, there's no guarantee the 34-year-old will play another NFL snap. With Smith's future in question, Washington needs to think long and hard about drafting a quarterback this offseason. Nick Foles, Teddy Bridgewater and Joe Flacco (when the Ravens inevitably release him) will also be possibilities should the Redskins address their quarterback need in free agency.

... Joe Flacco (when the Ravens inevitably release him) ... guess Ian isn't in the same camp as DeCosta and Harbaugh on Flacco having value.

It will be matter of weighing up a season with a middle-of-the-road or worse QB for peanuts as a starter while waiting for the next, pretty good draft class against the season with a middle-of-the-road QB on $18.5 mil salary for the teams that need one.
I don't see many teams desperate enough to enter a bidding war over Joe, considering the Ravens have to release him. then, there's the likes of Foles and Teddy.
On the other hand, all Joe needs is just one team interested enough.

The NFL Awards are being handed out tonight....

- Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes is named League MVP
- Bears' Matt Nagy was named Coach of The Year
- Colts QB Andrew Luck was Comeback Player of The Year
- Rams DT Aaron Donald won Defensive Player of The Year
- Giants RB Saquon Barkley is Offensive Rookie of The Year
- Colts LB Darius Leonard is Defensive Rookie of The Year

So once again another year, another year the Super Bowl MVP won't win the Super Bowl. Kurt Warner remains the last League MVP to win the Super Bowl in 1999.

Looks like we have news on the 2019 Season Opener. Regardless of who wins, we could see conference Championship rematches. If Rams win, they will open up against the Saints. If Pats win, they will open up against the Chiefs.

The Drama in Pittsburgh continues..... Antonio Brown involved in Domestic Abuse according to TMZ. He was not arrested.

Our sources tell us a woman contacted the Hollywood Police Dept. in Florida in mid-January and made a report alleging misconduct by Brown. The details surrounding her allegations are unclear -- but we know cops investigated. A rep for the Hollywood Police Dept. tells TMZ Sports, "Mr. Brown was involved in a domestic dispute. No arrests were made."

It's just the latest in a string of off-the-field drama for Brown -- who's not only been feuding with the Steelers, but he's also being sued over an alleged furniture-tossing tirade back in April.

TMZ Sports broke the story ... the man behind the lawsuit claims Brown almost killed his 22-month-old son by throwing furniture off the balcony of his Florida apartment.

Brown claims the man is lying and has said in a statement, "I'm innocent."

#BREAKING: #Raiders will play in San Francisco for 2019 season. Team reaches deal w/ #SFGiants to use #OraclePark (formerly #ATTPark). Announcement expected this week. (per my @NFL sources). #RaiderNation #SuperBowl53 #NFL
This is just weird. So they are leaving Oakland to eventually move to Las Vegas but the will play in San Francisco, a city who already has another team, next season. What fans are they trying to reach to sell a ticket to?

The Raiders need to play in another city because of Davis. They literally can't afford to play another year in Oakland. Unfortunately for them the new stadium isn't built yet so they had to look for a one-year lease.
