Signings, Cuts, Trades

Yes the number Rodgers just got is going to stay at the top for the next 3 years which is the obvious context (and they are already slicing their roster up and that is with manageable cap hits this year and next. Herbert is the only QB who might come close but I doubt it. If you are paying 50 million AAV, taking a haul of first round picks and starting over seems more prudent.

this is incorrect - he's not counting 50m against the cap yet... in fact he's accounting for less than 30m in cap space in 2022

they're having to slice up their roster because they spent a lot more money and didnt stop during the pandemic and went nearly all in and this is them reaping the consequences of that just like the saints with marcus williams and some other teams

Frustrating day Ravens wise. Haydn Hurst to Bengals is big for them. Myles Jack can still play. And Z. Smith fell through.
Is Seattle LB at all in play? (Wagner)

Pierce is an upgrade over Williams and Ellis but not super hyped on it. Was a huge Pierce fan but that's a few years now.

for what it's worth, pierce is the same guy he was when he left if not better - he's not declined at all
but i do understand that nose tackles and run defence arent that exciting lol

Should we take a chance with donte jackson or gilly? If we cant get any pass rushers that is

depends on price - we're going to get a corner at some point in this draft even if we dont get one in R1 because there's literally corners you can take at basically any point in the draft

QBs do not win on their own (and these guys are never on the field as the same time as the other). If the pieces around you are terrible it doesnt mean anything. The Falcons have no defense and their weapons are not what they used to be so you basically are going to have to have a shootout with inferior weapons and the Saints are already trimming the talent before trying to fit a 35 million AAV over the next 4 years under their cap (and despite that they are already 20 million over next years cap before the draft and before executing the trade).

Yes the AFC is loaded but if you are going to win a Super Bowl you are going to have to beat the best in the NFL anyway so running from the best in the NFL is pointless and you may as well find the best roster and trust yourself to elevate it.
1. OK, but saying all of that, I'd give the Saints and Falcons, with their current roster, + Deshaun Watson, a much, much, much better chance of being a playoff team than I would giving Cleveland, with their current roster + Deshaun Watson.

Like Cleveland would be the best team out of the four, and probably be the least likely to make the playoffs at the same time.

2. $35M AAV isn't all that relevant anyway. Any team acquiring Watson is getting the balance remaining of his contract, which is 4 years at $137M. The key is it's only two years of guaranteed money, at a total of $72M. The great part of any acquiring team is the Texans made his deal salary heavy, which makes it easy for teams to convert to bonuses and prorate. He'll play at least 3-4 years with whatever team gets him and probably never have a cap hit close to $40M.

then that would be amazing and id be pumped
I'm waiting to see what happens. I'm hoping that he realizes in the next few days that he's NOT going to get a significantly better offer from anybody, and the Ravens refuse to sign him.

Normally when we see a player back out of a deal, they have another deal lined up. Odd that's not happening here.

the thing that's frustrating isnt him finding more money elsewhere
it's the fact that they verbally agreed and then pulled out - which ultimately is fine but i still dont understand how they misjudged their own value so poorly that they pulled out of that deal

It pisses me off the whole its a business narrative seems to justify your word meaning nothing. Where I'm from that just makes you scum. I'm all for a man trying to make as much money as you can and jumping from team to team if thats the way you can maximise your earnings. But if you agree to a contract then stick to it.

Appears to be somewhat of a debate about whether a verbal agreement was ever given. It sounds like it certainly wasn't given by ZaDarius himself.

Found this gem on Twitter, Lamar throws it away and Pierce jumps to catch the ball. Jackson to Pierce in some wild cat formations.

yes, still a very good player, just hope he can stay heallthy. That's really his only question mark.

You can’t possibly believe that. It’s an agent trying to save face for his client after backing out.

Doesn't his family still live in Baltimore? Seems like the last city in the world you'd wanna piss off the citizens if your family lived there lol

I mean I have no other details that anybody else doesn't have. Its possible that's what it is, but I've also seen players be almost completely hands off in negotiations and they're basically not told anything until the agent has already agreed in principle with somebody.

I personally think the agents wouldn't give a shit what the PR looks like. These guys are basically just specialized lawyers. They know as well as anybody that nothing is done until the ink is dry. I have zero doubt that agents aren't worried about verbal agreements or backing out of them, and it doesn't matter if that's at the direction of the client or not.

The only reason I lead to this possibly be some type of communication issue (a pretty big one) is that, again, it's extremely odd for a player/agent to back out of a deal and then not sign with somebody else quickly. It's a gigantic risk on both of their sides to just assume they can do better, without a guarantee of doing better (i.e. another offer), which makes me think that's not what's happening here.

Well I doubt they live in west and east Baltimore. And even then I don’t think those folks are taking ravens matters too personal lol.

id hope the ravens arent petty enough to not sign him - the player's still great, he's still got prior relationships and links to the city and organisation and will still help our team

i think he probably gets more money from a team like the jets or cowboys but if he doesnt id have no problem taking him back (as long as he signs lol)
