Signings, Cuts, Trades

Your also not competing for super bowl with this defense this year without a significant upgrade like Smith. I get it, a 2nd round pick is nothing to blow off, but we've been begging for the Ravens to really go for it and they did just that. Suddenly the nay sayers are acting like that 2nd rounder would have saved our franchise next year, but again its something like a 35% success rate. Maybe we would have found a franchise player in the 2nd round next year or maybe we would have traded back into the third round for more picks and snagged another Ferguson, Boykin, Cleveland etc... we will never know, but I'm glad the Ravens are putting their chips on the table
Sizzle is going to dissent against whatever the ravens do, unless they address whatever he is obsessing over that particular week, then he might be cool with it.

not against the trade, but that trade down into the 3rd could also net us another Andrews or Orlando Brown also. That being said, we need Roquan Smith now.
Totally agree , it could have gone either way and well never know. I'm just happy the Ravens are clearly thinking win now. If Williams comes back healthy and the offense finds some rhythm, we have a great chance of snagging the three seed and making a run.

The linebacker tag is almost $19M this year, so if Chicago did tag and trade they'd only be hoping for a Day 3 pick at best. The Ravens could have done that and kept their 2nd.

I still think it's an overpay for 9 games. The Ravens only got the equivalent of a 2nd for a full season of Orlando at (most would agree) a more important position.

No if they tagged they would not take less than a 2nd or early 3rd because otherwise there would be no reason to tag. They would also likely get that because again all pro LB can pretty easily get that on a sign and trade. The Bears would not be forced to trade him to fit him under their salary cap as they have an insane amount of space (because their entire team is terrible) so they could wait on the offer that would no doubt come and we would be exactly where we are now except another year wasted.

I still take issue with the idea that swapping a 2nd round pick for a 3rd round pick in the worst case to get an all pro LB is the worst trade ever. These are the moves you need to make if you want to win a Super Bowl. You cannot just sit around and hope the window never closes and that maybe you get lucky with a draft. When the window is open you have to go for it.

EDC trying to do his best Ray Lewis, Ed Reed impression with Roquan Smith and Marcus Williams.

This team has the QB, it has the RBs, it has the OL, it has the TEs, it probably has the defense when it finally gets healthy.

Please just find a way to get the Anquan Bolden that we need. That could be Bateman actually just being healthy and playing well. Could be Odell. Could be Cooks. Idk. But this team is one piece away.

Don’t at me about next years numbers. Time is now MFs

When The Ravens activate Charlie Kolar instead of trading for a wide receiver or sign one .... Let the tightend empire begin muhahahaha

Of course it was the Rams who offered the Panthers multiple first round picks. That would be their firsts in 2024 and 2025. Going to be interesting to see if Carolina changes their mind about this before 4PM.

I hope they get him. Cripple that dumbass franchise.

Not taking two 1sts for Burns is mind blowing

I mean... of the list of players in that group, there is no evidence that either Moore, Moore, Mims or Claypool are available for trade (frankly I don't know why any Ravens fan thinks the Steelers would trade us Claypool), regardless of whether we want them or not.

Bourne and Agholor don't really do anything for me, personally. I'd give Duvernay more targets before I gave it to those two, and when Bateman is healthy, they're a complete afterthought in this offense.

Cooks is obviously a big get if you can get him, but I think the trade parts needed may be too high.

AND, of course, based on the stance you took (I know you don't really believe that stance anyway), there's a big difference in 2023 prices. Just because we can afford it now doesn't mean we can afford it next year. Part of the reason of Roquan being "affordable" is because if we extend him, its at our price, not somebody elses price. So we can structure a deal to benefit our cap situation.

When you take on Cooks, you're acquiring somebody else's contract. That's $18M fully gtd next year, and only two years left on the deal, so there's really very little wiggle room to restructure for less space.

I agree. When I read this, I couldn't believe it.
Honestly makes no sense from either side for me.
1. I don't know why the Rams think they're going to be in SB mode this year. They're clearly not. They may be a playoff team, but if I'm acquiring players, its Olineman and more Olineman. That's where their struggles are.
2. I have zero clue how a Panthers team that is clearly rebuilding thinks two firsts isn't enough for Burns. Like mind blowing to me. Maybe their FO thinks they can turn this around quickly by just getting a QB, which is possible I guess.
A franchise QB on that team, as is, and they're best in their division easily, and probably a top 4-5 team in the conference. Defense is actually pretty good, and they have quality young Olineman to build off of.

Having not considered the fact that a) they'll be later first round picks and b) that its two years away from being recognized (i.e. they're not 2023 picks), I can see why Carolina would probably turn that down.

I don't think that roster is as far off from competing as some people think.
