The General Front 7 Thread

I can imagine having both Pierce and Williams in front of Mosley makes his job 10000x easier as well.

I feel like we may be over hyping ZDS...again
Did you see that sack he had against the Bengals? Did you see the push and the pressure he got? Did you see the power? Did you see that insane first step that nobody thought he could get? Two months ago he was overhyped but ZDS finally looks like he's gotten quick enough to be a beast. He's lacked burst, which made him useless, but now he's a pretty viable pass rusher.

He's a strong pass rusher from the inside and I imagine on obvious passing downs we can drop to only 1 defensive lineman and line up Z in the middle as well like we used to with McPhee - without Z we will likely use more 2 d lineman sets on passing downs which isn't necessarily a good or bad thing but the only time we had less than 2 linemen on the field vs the bengals was before Z got hurt

He's still stiff enough that he's not great turning the corner but you're right that he's shown improved burst and he's a naturally powerful guy - I imagine, as weird as it sounds, that his injury was the reason urban played 50 snaps (only Judon and Mosley played more in the front 7)

He doesn't have to sell out for the run on play action as much as if those guys weren't as dominant but Mosley had demonstrated intelligence, instincts, athleticism, length, awareness of what's behind him and a preternatural ability to read the game that would make him a dominant force in any scheme behind any sort of dline

Now I know that Aaron Donald, khalil Mack and jadeveon clowney are all pro bowl level players on defense out of that same draft but I think you have to say that Mosley is at least as good as those guys - if he played in a larger market he'd be thought of publicly as probably the 2nd best ILB in the league

The most impressive thing about Mosley is that he seems to have taken yet another step and is now reading plays accurately pre-snap and baiting qbs into dangerous throws as evidenced on his int

I really don't think anyone is. Not like we're expecting more than 6 sacks, and even 6 sacks would be awesome. it's just that it was painful to watch him get stonewalled everytime he was on the field last year. He was a one trick pony and his trick never worked. This year his skillset looks more diverse and even if he doesn't put eye popping stats, he is an interesting option to rush from the interior and gives us a rotational player that can exploit some favorable matchups in this defense.

There are Mosley haters?
I don't understand how anyone could even dislike him - he's a great humble guy and an unbelievable football player...
On the old board there were a group of (idiot) posters who dogged on him. Saying that he is wasn't a "real" player. That Orr was clearly the better between the two due to the tackle numbers.

Mosley helps the defense tick. He's clearly the QB of the front 7 and by god we are lucky to have him. I don't think it's a stretch to say he's one of the smartest football players football IQ wise in the whole league. Remember, he was given he green dot when Daryl Smith, a damn smart player in his own right, was here with him. Lock the dude up. I know he's playing a "dying" position, but he's a big reason why we are as good as we are.

Guys like CJ are the reason the position won't die

Yeah seriously. I hated the pick when we made it, but soley for value(I wanted Cooks, who would have also been a good choice, and most of us thought Brown was the real deal. I guess it's why we don't run teams). But I knew he could be this good. He's not a Luke Keuchly, but he's not too far behind. At worst I'd say he's a top 7 ILB. Which is very good.

Ive figured it out. Correa is manti teo 2.0. I hope im wrong but.....comparison seems too accurate. Good vs the run (especially filling the whole) but will struggle in space (most notably in coverage vs scat backs or slot recievers).

I say he's 3rd behind Kuechly and Wagner. Outside of both, I can only see Sean Lee or Thomas Davis as competition but given their age and injury history I'd take Mosley.

TBH I think Mosley is probably ahead of Wagner now - I genuinely think he could be pretty close to kuechly good as well - kuechly is the king of film study and reading plays before they happen and that is something that Mosely seems to be becoming excellent at

I never really realised until he made that 1 handed pick last year 1) how good mosley's ball skills are and 2) how long he is

So if Tim Williams is out we only have 3 active olb - if that's the case what do you guys reckon is the plan?

My hope would be that in a pinch we can work around it with bam or onwuasor playing ilb and Correa having an occasional run snap on the edge although we essentially played last week with only 3 olbs

The only other option I see is sending one of the injured corners to i/r and promoting bo lokombo

Neither is really a great option so hopefully Timmy is good to go
