The General Front 7 Thread

Exactly his most hurtful trait. That's what I was referring to when I said balance. He beats his blocker so badly sometimes an absolutely nothing happens of it because the qb doesn't a simple a aidestep and he goes tumbling off into fucktown

sometimes i wish he'd beat his man and then slow down so that the qb cant just juke him - at least then he can keep pressure on rather than pressure the qb, fall over and then the qb have even more time...

And the sad thing is, his pressure always seems to come by itself, like disruption is huge and often leads to disaster, but there never seems to be another rusher to clean up.

which is why i dont really want him to be shot out of a cannon once he beats the blocker - he needs to pressure the qb rather than fire towards a target - he's always looking for the big hit i think and not just the positive play

Well Z always had burst, raw power, and a high motor, he just lacks a lot of nuances like bend and balance. We were hoping that maybe he worked on his game and finally put it together, but it turns out he just had a perfect scenario where he faced a weak tackle that he could physically dominate and a qb who didn't give him much trouble in the pocket.

Idk why you like to fault people for getting excited over a good performance.
see its not about me faulting people, its about others talking to shyt to me when i say obvious things like " its only one game guys lets wait till he shows consistency" people were really blaming our lack of pass rush on his absence . Then you have people like alex lewis who was a rookie and wasnt great but still did pretty well. Soon as he gets hurt people bash him acting like he wasnt only a rookie. Same for zach orr, dude was amazing for us and once he retired, lots of people said " we didnt need him and he can easily be replaced", yet we have a player in flacco that is clearly terrible and one of the worst starting qbs in the nfl but they still praise him when the truth is right there...

i was sort of with you til here - i dont see anyone on this forum praising flacco at all... putting blame on marty maybe but nobody's excusing flacco

Here's my thing. The Packers were shut out. Whatever snaps they picked and whoever was getting playing time worked. If something is clearly working in the game, you don't rock the boat.

different teams have different weaknesses - our defensive gameplan vs the bengals and browns worked but that same gameplan didnt work against the jags

the texans are a very different team to the packers on offence - they have a statue at qb with a cannon arm, they have a shifty rb but no workhorse (now that foreman is down), they have awful tackles and 1 dominant wr - i imagine their gameplan will be to throw the ball at hopkins over and over again - which tells me that we need to affect those throws and throwing lanes more effectively

and while we got 6 sacks against the packers at least 2 of them came from incredible coverage - but hopkins is always uncovered (if you will) because he always fights for the ball in a way not many other receivers do/can do... tom savage is also susceptible to the sack-fumble

this all suggests to me that we need a better outside rush vs the texans and that their offensive line is ripe for it to happen - we certainly wont need a slightly above average edge setter on the field 2/3 of the snaps while we have 3 pass rushers getting fewer snaps than that...

If that's the case then idk what the hell our coaches are thinking. Maybe trying to give film on ZDS to use as trade bait this off-season? Williams definitely needs to be seeing more snaps tho. I like I've seen this far
If that was the case they should have traded him after the Bengals game

Nobody talks shit about you waiting for consistency, it's just that it really is ok to be excited about a good performance. You temper EXPECTATIONS, not warranted excitement.

I wouldn't downplay Fuller at all. That guy was lighting people up when Watson was healthy. He has been pretty quiet as of late. But it would not be a Ravens game without a 2nd or 3rd string wide receiver burning the defense more than the best wide receiver.

i only didnt mention him because i think he might be injured at the moment...

Oh you could be very right! I haven't check I just have been a huge fan of his this season because he has exploded. He also had some moments as a rookie before going down with an injury last season. If Watson comes back healthy and find a solid running back (who could be on their roster right now) and get an o-line that team is really dangerous and up and coming

Although this is more than just the front 7, I thought this was a good article to post here, instead of random thought thread.

Awesome article and I always stood behind the strategy of stacking the defense. I was pissed we didn't take oj Howard but I understood the pick, no more late defensive breakdowns if you take a stud corner.

One thing though that irks me, this article talks about the past 2 drafts, and there was one pick that really hurt us and if we went offense it would've made such a massive difference this year... if we took Michael Thomas, Cody whitehair, or sterling Shepard in round 2 instead of KC who isn't even playing right now, we would probably have one more win this season and we would have a totally different outlook. I did everything in my power to get on board with the KC pick, but it turns out the initial feeling was right, that it was a dumb pick and it's hurting us badly

No question, they still could have traded down once and drafted one of this players.

Don't watch much college ball so can't say he was someone I liked, but Thomas would be real helpful right now. Not mad about stacking the defense either. After the draft I figured they would count this as a growing year for the young guys and the upcoming year the other side is addressed. We're honestly set on defense minus ILB and S for the future. I'm really hoping the early picks go to OL or a work horse back, but preferably OL.

I’d rather wait until the 3rd or 4th round to take a rb unless a stud falls to us in the first. My first round is as follows. I’d be happy with either one these picks and ecstatic with the first three.

Rosen
Fitzpatrick
Nelson
McGlinchey
Ridley
