The Random Thought Thread

Has to be something were asking our guys to do that's limiting them. Maybe alignments or other requirements of the scheme. No way Smith and Judon leave then just immediately improve.

They're the same guys they're just no longer playing in a defense designed to generate pressures, the correlation between sacks and pass defense isn't a good one.

We were 14th in sacks last season but still allowed the NFL’s second-fewest points (18.9) and seventh-fewest yards (329.8) per game. We also owned the No. 2 third-down defense (34.0%) and produced a league-high 25 forced fumbles. Judon left that for a losing team so he could get his personal stats up.

This is an excellent point. when it’s working, it’s one of the best defenses in the league, but winks scheme is extremely reliant on corners, and also a qbs inability to dial up protection and hot reads. With great corners and a robber type defender who can spot the hot read early and cover it, you can really stifle even a great qbs ability to find the openings left by the blitz. It’s also crucial that guys make open field tackles, because when that ball is completed you gotta make the tackle with no help, very often.

literally none of those things have happened this year, and it’s been a disaster. It’s also no coincidence that outside of the chargers game, our best performances came when we were playing more conservative with the pressure but still bringing that classic wink confusion pre snap.

we really need wink to make 4 man rush the default rather than 5 while keeping up the disguised fronts, and let oweh and Houston just rush.

Ima just say it… I wanna trade for Ronald jones. I think he might actually be a difference maker, like a MAJOR one. He could be the difference between a deep playoff or maybe SB run, and another early exit. This offense is too one dimensional and the OL can not handle it, well get bounced early by the first team with an above average pass rush if we have no run threat whatsoever, Ronald jones with lamars read option has deadly potential, enough to bring the running game to a level where it takes over games, it forces defenses to respect it always, and will eventually yield season changing results.

I think adding Ronald jones would be a massive deal and might honestly be all we need to make this push for a SB

So does anyone think it will get anymore exciting than Von Miller being traded before 4PM tomorrow? I mean unless there is a star player out there that a NFC West Team wants to give up a future 1st round pick for, I really don't see anything happening unless it's a small minor trade of a team getting something for someone who was going to be a free agent. If Watson somehow gets traded by 4PM tomorrow, I will be shocked.

I totally agree. I think tackling can improve in house and more 4 man rushing but we need to reduce BWills snaps.

I'd be tempted to trade for another above average corner as well.

Or he left for a better defense? A place that will allow him to showcase what he can really do?

Maybe better than what we have but he isnt spectacular in anyway.. been fumbling this year too

Same thing, he joined a losing team so he could improve his personal stats. The Pats pass D has been struggling but at least he's on track for double digit sacks.

Agree with the sack and defense correlation..but judon and smith's play seem to have improved. Again, that could also be to increase in snaps like mentioned before. It's not just personal stats either. From what I've seen seems to be impacting the games. The Pats are also improving as the season goes on like I expect us to.

I think he'll be the biggest "name", unless we actually see like Watson get moved.

I have to say, having recently attended the Bengals game but being a former season ticket holder up until 2003, I just don't like the new presentation as much. For one, I don't like the scoreboard mini game antics, save that stuff for baseball games, we never had that going on in the days of our HoF defense. Also, the defense chant does not need a cheesy, "the opponent has requested silence". Put the De-Fense label on the screen with the Raven eerily in the background like the old days. Also, bring back the ambiance of the Raven in the background for the introduction with random captions from the poem, like tapping at my chamber door, etc. It just felt badass and got you prepped for seeing a dangerous defense that opponents feared. Use an epic symphonic score not cliche music.

The new presentation is just lame and not the same, but maybe it suits this new era of exciting offense but lame defense that QBs are excited to face.

So was thinking today about Queen's move to WLB and I really hope they keep him there. Let him roam sideline to sideline and make plays with his athleticism (with a little tackling of course). Bynes should stay the starter for now but I hope they give Harrison reps at MLB when he returns. Feel like he’s much better going downhill. Always thought they had their roles reversed and this is a good opportunity to put them into spots that better fit their skill sets.

Queen has played both spots prior to his switch to WLB, but agree I always thought he'd be best as WLB primarily and vice versa with Harrison.

Ruggs likely going to jail for between 2 and 20 years according to sports center. That's the jail time range for DUI ending in death. Obviously he has to be convicted to go to jail, but they are reporting he was intoxicated when police showed up at the scene.

Sad for the victim and their family, sad for Ruggs. Such stupid decision making.

Am I the only one who didn't know Lamar's got a kid?

wait what?
i know he keeps most of his personal life pretty secret but no way...

that's cool

he's one of the biggest superstars in the game but i respect how much he's kept his family out of the spotlight
