The Random Thought Thread

I know a lot will change with the draft order but because of trades, three teams occupy spots 4-9 in the draft order.

4. Jets (via SEA)
5. Jets
6. Giants
7. Giants (via CHI)
8. Eagles
9. Eagles (via MIA)

New Jersey turnpike having a fun time lol

Since Lamar has had Covid at least twice and seems to have bouts of sickness more than ever , do you think he could be suffering from Long Haul Covid symptoms?

Pretty much impossible to know. Really don't know what "illnesses" he's been dealing with. Could be related or completely unrelated.

Injuries occur and our offense begins with the run unfortunately we don't know how gus or jk will return, hill was never a solution, and the undrafted ones either, he could use one of the 4 or 5 round picks
I mean that's fine, but you could also be using a draft pick on a guy who may not make the team or rarely plays on gameday. Not ideal.

The point is there is no team in the league who is "prepared" to lose your best 3 RBs in a single offseason. It's not reasonable from a roster construction standpoint to go like 4-5 deep at RB. Most teams don't even have that many on the 53 man roster to begin with.

I'm sure the Ravens organization would keep this very very secret if it was. I have to say the eye test suggests to me he's not quite right. I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe. At this point I don't even think the medical profession has really caught up to what "long haul symptoms" or the long term impact of Covid is, so they probably wouldn't even know.

I remember when they selected dobbins, it was not a time where we had a need for rb, following bpa is a high probability i would say, there are good rb in the draft walker, hall, spiller, goodson, smith, price, knight, davis prive, ealy

this is true. My wife works for a company in emergency medicine and one of the doctors writes a regular blog and it has been mentioned. They are definitely getting better at keeping it under control, but to know the long term effects at this point is impossible.

little different scenario. Mark Ingram had a three year contract, with two remaining, when we selected JK Dobbins. However Ingrams contract was only a three year contract for cap purposes. He likely was going to be cut at the end of year two. In this scenario, we did need a running back.

Mark Ingram is also an older back and JK Dobbins is a young back, with only two years into his rookie deal. Now I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft one in the 4th/5th round, if he is bpa, but we have bigger fish to fry.

I certainly expect us to add a back, likely on day 3 of the draft. Justice Hill has another year left on his deal, but it's possible we move on given his injury. Edwards and Dobbins are both under contract and will return.

RB is a luxury, not a need. I'm certainly not using any significant draft capital on it, as we have a lot of other positions that we will need to backfill this offseason.

I was going to ask why it couldn’t just be the SNF game but then realized I’m tired of prime time lol

This thread is gold. Feisty Jeff is the best Jeff. Lamar knows he has to play better

I'm so glad we're done with prime time games for the regular season. Absolutely hate having to wait the extra time before watching it and then being too amped up to even sleep afterwards.

His whole exchange has been right. When they play bad, people blame coaching. When they play well, it’s the players. Can’t have it both ways.

W.r.t. Hill, he was even "Waived (injured)" as per the Ravens transactions page (https://www.baltimoreravens.com/team/transactions/), so he seems to be out of the picture already.

he’s said he never used to get ill like he has done this season - it’s certainly possible that covid has fucked with his immune system somewhat but also equally completely possible that it’s more about now having a young daughter

lol - I’ll defend Lamar to the ends of the earth (not that he needs defending)

but he had a shit game lol and did miss open guys and did make some poor reads in the pocket and didn’t have a great feel for the rush... the whole game was a mess

everyone misses open guys - but not everyone turns that into 4 ints and a bunch of sacks too

True it would seem he’s out of their plans but also I’m pretty sure this was done like this to potentially help out our cap situation - basically gave the rest of the nfl a chance to claim his contract but they didn’t so he reverted back to I/R

just means that at that point in time the cap space was more important than the player - no guarantees that will be the same in 2022 but certainly possible
