The Random Thought Thread

Just read some of the Steelers and Chiefs forum and they were sooking about the refs being against them. Especially funny were the Steelers fans complaining about the blatant holds missed against them.

They got it right.
They shouldn't put FSU in, because FSU can't beat anybody in basically the top 7-8 (or maybe below) at this point. Not even the biggest FSU homer thinks they're competitive in any game against Texas, Michigan, Washington, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St or Oregon. They lose by two TDs or more to every single one of those teams.

That being said... they left out an undefeated Power 5 champ. That says something. People will say "well it sets a precedent". Not really. They're going to a 12 team playoff next year anyway, where it will be supremely watered down, and most importantly, this is probably the first year where the committee is largely acknowledging that conferences mean less. Which they should, because they are largely meaningless. Pac-12 is officially dead in about 30 days, the ACC is barely a "power" conference anyway, and the Big 12 is fading fast.

It's not a "bad" roster. It's just not a good one. It's pretty average.
Their QB room sucks, their Oline is, at best, average, their linebackers are largely pathetic, and they don't have great Corners.
I'll also be the guy that says their WRs aren't nearly as good as people think they are, because they're not. They have little to no speed at WR, can't stretch the field.
 
If Mike Macdonald moves on for a HC position, I think it's very possible Anthony Weaver becomes DC for us. I think that would be an excellent choice.

From a fan perspective they got it right. If they follow their own guidelines they clearly got it wrong. Im glad we don’t have to watch them in the playoffs but I do feel awful for their players .
I would be really concerned about what this does to recruiting if it were not for the the playoffs expansion next year

I mean their own guidelines clearly said they have the ability to pivot off of teams if they feel they won't be competitive due to injury concerns. It's in their criteria.

The funniest thing to me is that its almost entirely FSU and the ACC commissioners fault. ACC commissioner lobbied very aggressively to delay playoff expansion. The 12 team system was supposed to start this year, and he didn't want it. Now his "darling" is left out because of it.

I wouldn't be concerned with recruiting. They're "consolation prize" is playing Georgia in a NY6 Bowl game.

The only thing I think the committee screwed up is the previous week rankings and how they seeded now. If you knew you were going to leave FSU out, you shouldn't have had them at #4 last week. And realistically, while it doesn't matter a ton, there's no reason to have FSU at #5 today either. Sports betting lines aren't necessarily predictors of outcomes, but they've opened as a 14 point dog to Georgia, and they'd be underdogs to pretty much anybody in the top 10 (including Oregon and Ohio St).

Multiple random thoughts this morning...

1. The NFL still has a big officiating problem. Blown calls are bound the happen but the number and frequency this year is alarming. It's consistent week after week.

2. For the Harbaugh vs. Tomlin debate, I have a hard time giving Tomlin any flowers right now while he lets Diontae Johnson continue to play after his assholery. 0 effort last weekend and then celebrates a TD while losing yesterday.

3. It's wild that we're this far into the season and only 5 rookies - Zay Flowers, Trenton Simpson, Tavius Robinson, Keaton Mitchell, and Owen Wright - have taken snaps for the Ravens. Really relying on some vets this year.

Right but if that were true and applied appropriately wouldn’t UGA be ahead of FSU in the rankings? Are we to believe the committee thinks the FSU product without Jordan Travis is bad enough to keep them out of the playoffs but good enough to be ahead of a team like Georgia?

Or did the conference talk then come into play? People can trash the ACC, but head to head SEC was 4-6 vs the ACC and has 1win vs a ranked non conference opponent. Bama also had the worst non conference loss of any of the CFP contenders. Im not ACC fan, and think Bama/UGA would wreck that conference, but still it’s all apart of the criteria that the CFP seems like they largely ignored for viewership/monies.

All this almost makes me miss the BCS.

Kenny Pickett having surgery due to high ankle sprain. They hope to have him back week 18 against us.

With our tough upcoming schedule, this gives us a little more wiggle room in the division race.
