The Random Thought Thread

I kind of worry about Peters. I read somewhere that he’s known to wear out in the locker room. That’s why chiefs and rams shipped him. We only get half a season to decide if we should extend him (unless we tag him), we’re definitely still in the honeymoon phase.

Rams couldn't have kept Ramsey and Peters. I think they saw this as a time to upgrade and that Marcus wouldn't fill that #1 role. We already had that in Marlon and now we're spoiled at the cb position with Jimmy back.

But then what about us? We already going to pay marlo that number 1 cb money. Can we afford to and is it smart to pay Peters that number 1 cb money as well

I wouldn't want to pay him "#1" money, but see what we could work out. We have cap space and who knows if a deal is even worked out with Marlon this off season. We also have the 5th year option with Stanley(and 2021 with Marlon). My guess is something is working out with Ronnie, wait another season for Marlon and see if we could work something out with both Peters. This also comes down to what the team wants to do with Judon.

yeah, I've been wondering if we wait on Marlon until next offseason due to him having the 5th year option. Ronnie has the 5th year option as well and would be playing on it next season, so he is high priority. Pierce will end up hitting free agency though.

by all accounts the rams had no problems with him at all - in fact they specifically put out there how professional and personable he'd been especially with regards to being traded etc.

chiefs not so much but the rams he was well respected and liked

the rams cant pay 2 corners like that because they have massive contracts elsewhere on their team this year (and moving forwards) - the following are their 2020 cap numbers:
  • Jared Goff - 36m
  • Aaron Donald - 25m
  • Todd Gurley - 17.25m
  • Brandin Cooks - 16.8m
  • Jalen Ramsey - 13.7m (I assume he gets extended - this number might come down if they structure their contracts like the ravens do)
They are projected to have half as much cap space as the ravens next year (2020).

Ravens are in a different situation in 2020:
  • Earl Thomas - 15m
  • Brandon Williams - 14.2m
  • Ronnie Stanley - 12.85m (figure ironically likely comes down in year 1 if we extend him)
  • Tony Jefferson - 11.7m (likely to be cut to save 7m)
  • Marshal Yanda - 11m
Next offseason some of those figures will be adjusted but this is to emphasise why the Rams would never now pay top cb money to 2 cbs and why we will if we want to

We have the benefit of at least 2 and maybe 3 years where Lamar comes in well below market price in terms of his cap numbers - we have the ability right now to spend on non-qb players at high prices because of that

we might but I think we might take a view that Marlon deserves it just as much so we get it done early knowing that it will save us money by not paying for inflation in a year or 2 while also erasing any potential for any tension on defence...

but EDC is smarter than I

It may be easier paying Peters less than Humphrey is Humphrey is paid a year later. That being said, I agree, he should be renewed this year for cost savings.

Goff and Donald just a bit short of our top 5

Always a plus when only one of your top 3 highest hits are performing at their price. (It's not your fault Gurley)

Smart method to upgrade from a pro bowl corner to an arguably slightly better pro bowl corner by spending 2 first rounders trolllolol
