The Random Thought Thread

We really need to start worrying about the OLB position. Let’s say Bowser balls out and gets close to double digit sacks or surpasses it. That’ll mean he’ll price himself out of here and we ain’t re-signing Judon regardless. That leaves Ferg and??? Honestly would be all-in on drafting an OLB in the first and signing Von if he’s cheap. God I miss that Elvis/Sizz duo
I’ve felt for a while that von Miller would be in Baltimore in 2021, I think he’s gonna be an actual target for us, like we are gonna key in on signing him

Problem: salary cap. We don't know if the NFL is going to in-/decrease it (and how much). We also have to figure out who we want to re-sign out of: Andrews, Humphrey, Stanley, O.Brown and Jackson.
whats worse is all of them will be top 5 highest paid at their position. I feel like stanley, lamar and andrews are locks for us to resign, but then again our secondary is a big part of our identity so hump seems like a for sure too.. aw fk thats gonna be tough

that's why its important to get as many of them done early as possible so that we're not held over a barrel - pay them market rate as early as possible to keep them happy but also not allow those contracts to inflate

we've got the ability to keep a lot of talent in-house and not really have to worry about free agency if we can
That's 5 guys (including orlando brown jr) who we could potentially get deals done with next offseason

it's doable especially with lamar to emulate sort of what the chiefs did with mahomes or what the texans did with watson which is give him a signing bonus that we pro-rate across that year and through the deal (up to 5 years) but keep him on the same deal for the year he signs the deal in (and just add to the cap the pro-rated bonus number) and then the year after have the roster bonuses/base salaries go up - basically sign him to an extension but dont rip up year 4 of his current deal

that's not practical with ronnie and maybe not marlon either but definitely can be done with lamar and maybe andrews too - dont expect orlando brown to get a deal next offseason but its certainly possible

this is yet another ridiculous piece of charting and data about why the ravens offence was statistically so efficient - it was elite at converting 3rd and 4th downs but it was even better at just not making it to 3rd down at all

Moore has always been at the very least a solid S/T player. But it's "funny" that I see footage of the first Browns game and I saw him pull a Maclin. I wanted him cut right then on the spot.

it was a bad situation that he ever was even on the field as a receiver in the first place - that was brain dead though for him not to sort his feet out - lamar could have put the ball in a nice spot for him but that is unforgivable as a receiver

luckily he's unlikely to be a factor in the passing game at all

I was looking for a comp pick projection, but the latest I saw was from April 29th before players opted out. Back in April we were projected a 5th round comp pick for Michael Pierce. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but if it were a normal season and Pierce didn't play we wouldn't get a 5th round pick. That being said, after Mosley turned into a 3rd rounder even after playing only two games, all is still in play.

Yeah yeah yeah, it's too soon to be thinking draft with the season less than a week away, but the draft is my 2nd favorite day of the year, right after SB and my favorite weekend of the year by far. Think many are in agreement.

Last year our offense was all about efficiency and marching down the field with ease, we ran extremely well and passed in chunks, 5s and 10s with the occasional 15+ sprinkled in.

this year I think we are gonna go bombs away A LOT. Like chiefs type shit, we aren’t gonna just be play action passing our way for first downs, we are gonna run heavy and pay it off with a lot of long balls.

the other obvious evolution is to be an effective running game when we spread people out - we've been able to create mismatches and beat teams up with our 3 TEs and our FB and our power running game but i think we're going to see us try and add an element where we're spreading defences out a bit more and trusting our guys to win their matchups in space which will create more room in the box where we should still have an overload because lamar jackson is still a running threat

i also think we're gonna see more passes on 1st down than last year and more empty backfields
