No a lot of us were very high on him and most of us were pissed that Jax took him 1 spot ahead. He did have knocks though, and they basically all still apply, he doesn’t hold ground in the run game and has a wrap and drag tackle technique that is pretty shaky, he was and always has been a pass rush specialist, but he can make some plays in the run game penetrating gaps

in the run game he's mentally sound but technically lacklustre - when left as the end-man on the line he's decent but he doesnt close gaps very effectively

he'll play his assignment in the running game but he's not going to make a spectacular play unless as you say he gets a penetration or knifes inside - plenty of those types of plays on his resume but lots of unimpressive ones too lol

Crazy ending between Dodgers & Rays.

Also Joe Buck needs to stick to announcing Baseball, he's more tolerable to listen to here than football games.

The Ravens are sitting at about 38 mil in 2021 cap (OTC hasn't updated the cap carryforward for Yannick) with a cap total of 176 mil. I expect the total to increase a bit since the NFLPA agreed to a floor of 175 mil, but, it seems the NFL didn't really miss a beat this year, outside of attendance, of course.

Between RFA (Board and Gus Bus) and ERFA tenders that'll likely take out another 7 mil in cap. Ronnie probably gets tagged which would carry a cap hit of around 15 mil, but, if he gets resigned I'd have a hard time thinking his cap would be higher than that in 2021. Mark Ingram, Andre Smith, and De'Anthony Thomas are probably gone which saves about 7 mil in cap to cover the RFAs and ERFAs.

After tagging Ronnie, I see them resigning Yannick, Bowser, Ward, McPhee, Smith, Wolfe, Levine, Cox and maybe Skura if it's a team friendly deal, but unlikely. That would cause Judon, Snead, Moore, Ellis, Fluker, and RG3 to walk (and potentially get between 2 to 3 comp picks, in 2021). I don't see them having any cap left to sign any outside free agents after that.

They probably attack OT depth. WR, OLB/DE, and CB/S depth in the draft with their likely 6 picks (with the Pierce comp pick, not sure if we keep it due to the opt out). I'd expect between Bredeson, Philips, Mekari, and Powers someone improves over our current RG situation.

Also, to add there will likely be a lot of backloaded deals next year considering the expected cap decrease. There will very likely be a huge jump in cap between 2021 and 2022 with the expectation that fans will be back in the stands in the 2021 season and of course the new TV deals, when they come into play.

Thoughts?

not sure we'll keep skura especially not if we're paying ngakoue and bowser on top of ronnie and obviously it's too early to call the draft lol but i wouldnt say there's much id disagree with generally

I actually agree with that and meant to say he would only be kept on a team friendly deal as depth, which is unlikely and will edit the post.

What I hope that gets addressed in the BYE week is what's our identity?

Are we a running team? If so, What will they do to give our running game a boost? A couple of jet sweeps? End-arounds? Screens?

Are we more of a passing team? And if so, is the playbook FINALLY going to open up?

im excited to see what we look like when we emerge from our cocoon
that being said if we come out and it looks like more of the same then im going to be livid

i dont even need to see crazy plays or anything - just want to see more creative route combinations downfield

Wtf happened in that steelers game today? The titans looked awful, even in their comeback. Ben looked really shake could have had 4 or 5 instead of 3 picks. They have almost no downfield passing game. Their defense had a good first half and an awful second half. Idk they kinda looked liked us to be honest. You can see there is something there but they just are not really realizing it. Should just show that these two squads are very beatable. Only thing that makes me nervous is our defense has gotten destroyed by the dink and dump. And that's all their doing

Not sure I see us re-signing all of those guys, but I think we'll keep the core ones in place.

Stanley and Ngakoue are obviously the top priorities here. Judon walks with Ngakoue's addition.

Bowser is in the next tier and I could see him return depending on the price tag, but he could also price himself out with continued solid play. Jimmy should return pending his contract is similar to 2020.

Wolfe, Skura, and Snead are the next tier. I'd expect us to try to go younger with all of these but if they're cheap enough, sure.

The next tier (RG3, Levine, Moore, McPhee, Cox, Fluker, Ward, Richards, Ellis) are all in the "who cares" or "cheap enough that it doesn't really matter" categories. I'm sure a few of these will be back, but I don't think we're losing any sleep over the rest of them.

with the way mcphee's been playing you probably re-up him again on the cheap

I don't disagree. He's in my "cheap enough that it doesn't really matter" category. If we want him back, it's not going to cost much. I could see us continuing to try to get younger there but McPhee is still a nice vet to have around.

Agreed, we don’t have enough edge players under contract for us to just be letting stable veteran players leave over pennies. I’m projecting our “young” edge guys under contract next year to be ngakoue, ferguson, and bowser, McPhee is definitely a guy you’d like to add to that, versatile and fundamentally sound, experienced? Etc.

and with Bowser's abilities in coverage, it makes him even more valuable. A contract like Chuck Clark would be great.

@Simba I do remember you being a big fan of Bowser coming out of school. It just took him longer than expected to come up to speed.
