Not really. Go back to the tape. He did have good games, but a lot of those sacks were basically cleanup duty. He also had some bad games, especially in run support. I am not here to bash Judon. He's a good player. Let's not throw around the phrase "high end OLB". He's not that. He's vastly outplaying his draft position, and thereby is a steal by default. But he's a good starter. Nothing more. Let's not pretend like he's some pro bowler. Which both Bowser and Williams could potentially be. That said, I have several disagreements with
@Truth's overall viewpoint of him in discussions. But there are certain things I do agree with him on. I do think relying on him too much isn't a good idea. As stated previously.. Judon is solid at everything. But I feel as if Tim Williams could become a high level pass rusher with his athleticism and skill set, and Bowser is better suited to have the coverage responsibilities. Judon is a dirty work guy. Which is something every good defense needs. He's a guy who deserves recognition, but not as much as he's getting. So yes. He's a jack of all trades, master of none. Which turns into a good player. Again. I am not calling him bad. He's simply not a stud. He's a fan favorite and I get it.. He's an unknown name on a super bowl caliber defense who's vastly outplaying his position. A good story. But we have two potential thoroughbreads at the OLB position behind him that should at the very least be rotating him.
I actually am not a big fan of the body change fwiw. He was already impressive athletically and I think his game is better suited as a power rusher which I felt he got away from. His skillset was that moreso of a power rusher and he sacrificed strength for speed which made little sense to me. It'd be like if Stephen Curry decided to play his game like Russell Westbrook does.
Judon is a
good player. But I feel as if he's better suited to be the third OLB and personally feel as if he's kind of maxed out as a player. He's not this guy who is walking the fine line between good and great. He's good, and an asset to the team. But likely isn't going to be an elite guy. Bowser and Williams straight up need more playing time. More talented and more likely to develop.
A bunch of those sacks were blitzes where he was essentially left untouched or in the case of the Packers game, both of those sacks. First one, Hundley holds the ball too long. Second, Hundley screws up bad. Better than not finishing but those sack numbers are not as impressive as you would think. Context... matters. I wouldn't even want him as the second best pass rusher on the team. He's certainly not bad at all. Having him is not a detriment.. Unless you have superior athletic talent behind him.
I just feel as if he's maxed out here. Let's not call him a "high end OLB".. He's not that. He's good. Solid player. The team is better with him on it rather than him not being here. But the other guys need more snaps. Judon is likely not a better pass rusher than Tim Williams IF WE ACTUALLY LET THE GUY PLAY, or Bowser in Coverage. Pees misappropriated a bunch of personel like crazy. It's more of an issue with ZDS.. But trust me.. Judon shouldn't be stealing snaps from younger guys who NEED snaps to develop.
Oh.. And the tape and PFF both support me on Hurst and Skura both being bad as me accusing them of.. As do the Ravens addressing the RT and C positions in the draft. I'm okay with them as backups but I do not want either anywhere near a starting lineup. It was a miracle the line played as well as it did with both playing. Hurst was a "meh" guard and Skura was lousy too. Line was lucky it had Jensen and Stanley, and that it was playing bad defenses towards the end of the season.
