The Random Thought Thread

Really what the team needs an offensive mind that it hasn't had since Kubiak. The problem with Harbaugh is that he doesn't provide that nor a stabilizing presence on defense. But after Lamar was drafted institutional stability became a selling point to the fanbase. It all comes down to what Bisciotti thinks and he is a human. Honestly, I could see him thinking a fresh start is a good idea just like I could see him justifying staying with Harbaugh because of their long history together/historical success. There are a lot of coaching concerns worth having, such as the flatness that the team comes out with pretty regularly and more than a few questionable decisions. But there are also a lot of issues aside from the coaching. Injuries are always difficult to deal with and a lot of recent high draft picks have made a minimal impact. Im not trying to make excuses for Harbaugh because I obviously think he needs to do a better job, but the lack of success is not 100% on him.
To this day, I still say "fuck Kubiak" for the way he left us, but yes, I agree with your first point given how the NFL is an offense-oriented league. If we can't score for shit, we won't win many games.

As for their long history together, the NFL is also a "What have you done for me lately?" type of league. Lately, we can't make the playoffs since we like to shoot ourselves in the foot.

So I went on NFL.com just to see our defensive standings (don't give a shit about offensive standings because the offense looks offensive). So despite our defense looking ever so pathetic against the Panthers, we're somehow someway still the number 1 defense in total yards per game, yards/play, scoring defense and total sacks (LOL at our anomoly). I definitely thought our rankings would've taken a hit, but whatever.

i mean until the saints game we hadnt conceded a 2nd half td
against every team except the panthers i think every team ended up with a lower yards and points score than their averages for the year
on top of that we had a shutout

those things basically meant we were number 1 by so far that we would have had to shit the bed even harder than we did to lose those placings

Our secondary played decent before the injuries, that helped the front to put pressure on QBs

I think the Titans game artificially inflated the sacks numbers. Don’t recall QB pressure being all that great on average, especially early on.

First quarter or so of the Bengals game was pathetic.

Speaking of coverages, do you think some of the members here could put something together explaining coverages or defensive schemes? Kinda like a defense for dummies, which is what I am. I'm sure there are others on the board who would appreciate the extra knowledge as well.
You rang?

I can absolutely do my best this weekend to compile a zone coverages for dummies.

If we could run the ball, they would feel even better. Turning the ball over in their redzone and our own really doesn't do them any favors.

It'd be awesome if you could do a detailed chapter on sTRonG SaFEty assignments.
I'll make sure to only include references to Humph and show where he's getting burned because he was listed as a CB. If he were listed as a sTrOnG sAfEtY on these plays, he'd have been in perfect position.

I might have to split it up into a few different articles to avoid it being too lengthy. Or I can just like do one massive article and then just break it into sections within the article and you can CTRL+F the coverage you're looking for.
Whatever works for you. I'm just here to learn.

A few different articles is fine
