The Random Thought Thread

This is where I have to question how much influence does Harbaugh have in the draft room. We continually have taken these high character stories since he's fucking gotten here. Sure, CJ Mosley, Ronnie Stanley, and Humphrey are good players and have been a trend away, but still. We go from drafting bonafide studs like Ngata, who was a risky proposition, to guys with high character over everything else.

Ozzie may have final say, but Harbaugh is in the war room too and our strategy noticeably changed when we got here. Even with Alabama goggles on, I don't see any possible universe where Ozzie goes Courtney Upshaw over Alshon Jeffery. Even he would take a chance there. But "high character guy". especially since Ozzie has been successful when drafting and acquiring edge rushers. Kruger turned out good, McPhee was good. Tim Williams when healthy looks good, Judon is a starter as a fifth rounder. Obviously there's Suggs and Boulware as well. Notice how we covet these limited pass rushers because of high character, "relentless motor". Makes me wonder, because Ozzie in the past DID NOT CARE. "But Dan Cody", even the best miss.

Can't wait to get rid of Harbaugh, I really think he's messed up the team more than most realized. Ozzie has done a lot of shitty things since 2012, but Ozzie has done his job the past three seasons in acquiring talent. Has he been perfect? No, of course not, but this team is on the brink of a possible playoff birth for the third year in a row. The talent has been acquired. We could ALWAYS do better with the benefit of hindsight, this is true of every GM in the league.

I personally think Hayden is going to be fine. I would've much rather have had Hernandez but whatever. No use in bitching about it now, nothing we can do.
I doubt harbaugh has a voice in draft room.. im sure its ozzie and decosta. I know you want harbaugh fired but dam

Dude, he's a HC and he's in the war room. I know I'm complaining about him having TOO big a voice, but if he didn't have a voice at all that'd be a bigger problem.

i understand that, but it seems
Like you want him gone so bad that youre blaming him for our terriblr draft picks of recent yrs when he doesnt have anything to do with it

I think you are correct on Harbaugh 100%. Certain type of player has been drafted since his second, third year. It would be too much coincidence if that's not his fingerprint.

If the head coach doesn't make clear what kind of players he wants, he doesn't deserve to be a head coach in the first place.

Harbaugh definitely has got to have some input, and I agree with @Lost_In_Translation on this, Harbaugh is bisciottis guy and I have the feeling that bisciotti told Ozzie and Eric that Harbaugh needs input since he has a very specific type of guy that he wants to coach (high character and effort, no balls, pushover).

And it kinda seems like the whole character thing is emphasized early on, and Ozzie just does his thing on day 3 where oddly enough we find all our talent.

Okay yea thats probably true.. i was looking at from a talent aspect

i know a lot of people like the designed runs by lamar jackson but wouldnt it better if just dropped back? i think his longest run Sun came out of shotgun. Not only that, he looked real russ wilson like when he broke outta collapsed pocket to buy more time.

We can’t eliminate his strength. His athleticism is too good not to run rpo because it totally takes a player out of the equation on the D. If they knew we were going to drop back on all plays, we wouldn’t have this advantage.

Let's put it this way, I'd jump for joy if they kept him... Literally.

You have a team with a hall of fame QB, the best RB AND the best WR in football, another stud in JuJu, an elite oline, and a lot of solid defensive pieces and you're consistently playing down to your competition rather than pulling a Chiefs and getting at least one ring out of this core.

Tomlin won a SB off of Cowher's talent. He got lucky to have a lot of those defenses early in the tenure.

He's there version of Harbaugh(and I'd argue he worse) and he's probably not going to get "fired" because of the Steeler way but "asked to retire".

If hiring a strong offensive mind means keeping him away from the Steelers then you DO IT.

The thought of having an offensive guru ala McVay with that amount of talent is enough for me to literally shit my pants out of fear. Their offense is already great, we don't need another super coach making it legendary.
Yeah no shit. If McVay was coaching this team, I'd be figuratively crying my eyes out of despair (thank you Rams).

Thank you! In short, work and family stuff. Missed being around here.
Hope everything’s good fam. Ingraven gave you a shoutout and told folks to follow your twitter for good breakdowns.

Welcome back. We all want to see some lamar Jackson breakdowns as well as Orlando Brown when you get a chance
Guy called in to 105.7 I think he was from pff, said averett had a stellar game vs the chiefs, I’m hoping to see one of those

Averrett just seemed like a guy getting drafted that should have gotten more hype. I was really ecstatic that we drafted him. I thought he could really be a very good corner in 2 years down the line. The fact that he is getting playing time with how many veteran good cornerbacks this team has, and you haven't seen a drop off in play when he is on the field is pretty amazing.

I thought he was a 2nd rounder personally

I’m not the biggest fan of the designed runs although there’s a place for them like the occasional qb draw but the zone-read has been borderline unstoppable so I don’t want him to drop back

Leave him in shotgun and run the zone-read and RPOs where he can read the defence and keep it if that’s the read

Same I mean I know on these boards people get 'annoyed' that the team drafts a lot of Bama players but he jumped off the screen to me, kind of like Humphrey did, but obviously not as athletic and gifted as Humphrey. I feel like he has some of that burst that Humphrey has and that closing speed. I was thrilled to get a steal at CB in the 4th.

I’ve never understood the hate for drafting lots of Alabama players. How am I gonna get upset that we take a lot of players from the best college football team in the country?

I’ve never got annoyed about bama players lol - albeit I’d get frustrated when a bama guy was taken over someone I liked more

But the last couple of years we’ve taken bama guys I loved who I never thought would be there at our pick in Timmy Williams and averett
