Pay Lamar and Stanley. The rest we'll get to along the way if the value is right.

I've always liked the Patriots model because it produced results for 20 years, everyone besides Tom was replaceable. On defense they pay signal callers and defensive backs and could nickel-and-dime everyone else, thats how they saved money for their offense.

in a way that's what we're moving towards on defence - we've paid chuck and peters already, humphrey would be next in line and everyone in the front 7 who's on a big contract doesnt have long left on their deal

on offence we're paying no one right now except our number 2 TE lol

Lamar and Stanley are the musts as you say and then we'll keep at least some of the other offensive pieces but maybe not all - then again we might pay them all if the value is right

But they never really paid anybody on offense either. They made a commitment to Gronk and Hernandez, who both played positions that didn't have high values league-wide, so the prices went down. They practically never paid elite money to RBs, WRs, or Olineman for that matter.

They won by signing a large list of cast off veterans that nobody wanted to mediocre contracts, coaching better than everybody else in the league for decades, and having the greatest QB in the league for decades.

Or, as I like to put in, a model that is largely impossible to replicate.

We've seen plenty of average receivers get paid 7+ million/year. If he is even above average for a season or two he's getting 10+ mil easy

Yeah but $10M for a receiver 3 years from now won't be a lot of money, so it won't matter. That also doesn't mean he'll be getting $10M+ from us.

If he's an average WR for the next few years, I'm more than happy to let him walk. I certainly expected we'll have drafted/signed a couple by then.

There is a good chance that yanda contributed to our RT success thats why i cant wait to see how brown plays this year. I also think we are gonna keep hollywood long as lamar is here.

Yes we are moving in that direction and will pay all our guys if the value is right.

Dumping Earl Thomas is another move that indicates that we will move on from talent if they're not on the same page. I hated it at first but I respect it and it sends the right message about being on the same page.

I gotta say it's not common for the best player at his position to be kicked off a team by teammates, but he seemed to think he was untouchable and could do whatever he wanted. Another example would be AB getting kicked off the Raiders.

Chandler jones was pretty much inconsistent with pats. Went to cardinals and ended up like zadarius smith. Dam i forgot about seymour and those guys. Seymour reminds me of suh lol

I'll say this... I think a better player gets more leeway. Like 2011 Terrell Suggs isn't getting kicked off the team for doing what ET did.

Earl is a good player. He's no longer a great player, and I don't view him as a game changer for a defense anymore. I thought the style of play he did in Seattle is dramatically different from what he was asked to do in Baltimore, and while some DC's would have catered their defense to fit his strengths, I'm glad we didn't, because I don't view him as the type of player (anymore) that you make the focal point of your defense.

I've thought about this, but also believe he will get better as he's another year in. No question Yanda helped everyone on both sides of him.

Tom also took less to pay the team around him. Lamar says Tom is his role model so we'll see if he does the same
 
am i being blinded by my ravens fandom?

i get that the steelers are going to have one of the best (if not the very best) defence in the league and big ben is back but im seeing tons of pundits projecting them at 12 wins and winning the division

i get that big ben's back but idk that he makes that much difference - like who's going to actually threaten other teams on that offence other than juju - diontae johnson could become that i suppose but james connor isnt scaring anyone, nor is james washington...

They went 8-8 with a third string QB. The thought is that if Ben can be even somewhat close to his capabilities that should be plenty for at least 2 more wins, assuming the defense stays strong.
