Agree, although I don't know if he would be moving to CB. Another point is Peters contract is only through 2022, it's quite possible we see big changes in our starting CBs in the upcoming years, unless one of or both of Averett and Peters get resigned, which I doubt both of them do. We need to start moving dollars to the offense.

Sans OL and some later round depth choices, I’d expect defense heavy drafts for the next couple of years. Need to rebuild the trenches in particular.

yes, defense heavy drafts are to be expected but we need some big signings on offense. Bozeman, Hollywood and of course Lamar.

Are there any inside linebacker we can pick up somewhere ?
unfortunately we only have 2m of available cap space and because of all of our injuries we have lost too much in space. Up until now we have been keeping 51 players on the roster and moved players to the practice squad due to the cost being less. We still bring a couple up to the active gameday roster per week, but we are very limited. I see Josh Bynes playing more and also Clark when Elliott comes back, especially when we are in dime coverages.

It's a shame but Queen at this point looks like a bust. He needs to pick up his game fast or I don't see him on the roster next season as we will probably trade him.

we saw last night that the DL is old - campbell came up big but he and williams were getting washed by backup OL for a lot of that game and madubuike no-showed which was in some ways more worrying

Agreed. Need almost a complete overhaul on the DL. Mostly due to age but we need a guy like Madubuike to be more consistent.

sometimes he's absolutely dominant but yeah he seems to have a tendency to disappear on occasion - i get it he's still young but if he wants to be thought of in the same way as some of the best DTs in the league then he has to show up more consistently

he and oweh are clearly the 2 key pieces on this DL moving forwards into the future but i think we need to find another blue-chip young talent to add to that DL either at EDGE or preferably inside as well as a young nose tackle (if they happen to be the blue-chip guy then that's fine too lol)

the top positions im gonna be thinking about as of right now in this year's draft: DT, OT, CB - i should also include LB but i hate scouting and grading LB play lol

Who would want Queen ? First pick in draft next year gotta be a inside linebacker . Damn shame because we usually don’t miss on defensive picks .

I know this conversation sparks every year and it’s not going to happen, but you have to wonder if the personnel fits better in a 4-3 to some extent. Gets rid of some of the disguise but I’m not sure that helps us much this year right now anyways. But just envisioning Bowser and Clark in the box as LBers a lot more.

To clarify, not a full switch by any means but it wouldn’t surprise me to see some adjustment to minimize (1) the DL not holding up their end of the bargain and (2) the ILBs being shit.

i dont think we're completely beholden to drafting a LB especially with how recent high picks at the position have panned out - it will help that next year we might have the opportunity to re-sign lj fort if/when he's healthy again

i think he's still got a chance to improve - but i think we need to sit him at this point for him to reset his mind
harrison has shown some things at times too but queen's confusion seems to be a little contagious

in terms of missing on defensive picks - we've missed on quite a few decent picks over the last decade or so tbf lol
2012: Upshaw
2013: Elam, Brown
2014: Jernigan, Brooks
2015: Davis
2016: Correa, Kaufusi
2017: Wormley, Williams
2019: Ferguson?
2020: Queen? Harrison?

vs the hits with those high value draft picks: Brandon Williams, CJ Mosley, Marlon Humphrey, Tyus Bowser, Justin Madubuike, Odafe Oweh, Brandon Stephens?

as it looks now we're look at 7/20 hit rate in the top 3 rounds - that's not awful relative to the rest of the league in hit-rate generally but it's not indicative of a team that doesnt usually miss...

what we're really good at is finding contributors and starters in day 3 (and as udfas) almost every single draft class (especially on defence): Brent Urban, Zadarius Smith, Tavon Young, Matt Judon, Maurice Canady, Chuck Clark, Kenny Young, Deshon Elliott, Zach Sieler, Zach Orr, Chris Board, Michael Pierce, Patrick Onwuasor,

it would get better players on the field in base but we'd be worse against the run in those packages so it would seem pointless to me

and we run a hybrid system anyway and a 4-3 would limit some of our positionless flexibility

I don’t disagree. Just from a personnel perspective, almost seems like it’d be the best way to minimize the struggles this year to an extent. I know we do a lot of 3-4 under anyways so not sure it really matters. More posturing than anything.

there is always someone who thinks they can fix someone and maybe he just isn't conducive for our complex scheme.

right now i think honestly our best option is hope deshon elliott gets healthy and then play a ton more dime with elliott/chuck spending more time in the box and with Bowser the only "off-ball" LB or with chris board as the only LB in certain down and distance

but dime might have to become closer to our base defence

So fitting.....

Would it be too much to wear my Lamar jersey the rest of the week? I went back and watched the ending of the game a couple times before I finally went to bed lol. This season is something..... different.
