also check out the falcons haha - the most "prevent" prevent defence ive ever encountered - 0 big plays against them but they've given up nearly 5500 yards this year which is 9th worst in the NFL (ironically 1 spot behind the ravens)

just looking at pure yardage the ravens have the worst pass defence and the best run defence in the league
worst in the league in YAC given up
5th highest in blitz rate
4th worst in average depth of target
5th worst in air yards
2nd worst in turnovers (and INTs)
worst in yards per attempt (and yards per play when run and pass put together)
but...
we're middle of the pack in terms of completions though
3rd best in qb hits

Part of me wonders if our run defence is that good or if we’re just so bad against the pass teams decided it was better to throw. I’m not even sure where to start improving this defence it is so bad. The problem is it was decimated by injuries so it’s hard to say where we need to inject talent. We obviously need improved DL, Edge, CB, S play so that’s nearly every position on defence. You could even argue LB but Queen has improved and I’m sure we will bring back Fort so we at least have that. On edge we have some old washed up guys who are shadows of their youth, one raw and promising rookie, one Courtney Upshaw clone who isn’t as good at stopping the run, and then some other projects. DL we just have Justin and that’s really it there, so maybe DL but we could definitely use another CB and a S upgrade for sure

absolutely - we're about to start a defensive rebuild - but the run defence has been genuinely good both in terms of schematics and also execution

oweh, madubuike, bowser, queen, humphrey are the guys this unit's probably going to be built around moving forwards

a lot will depend on the decisions made on peters, tavon, averett, deshon this offseason - but this rebuild and influx of talent is going to have to come at all 3 levels

OT, DL, CB for me are the 3 biggest needs on this team (C also if Bozeman isn't retained)
EDGE and S also important - LB might be somewhere we add talent if it's available too for sure

OT really the only position that interrupts or supersedes any of the defensive needs on this team
 
Was just thinking today... what if we had pulled off the Xavien Howard trade? I'm sure it would have helped us but who knows how much. But then how much would it have hurt the Dolphins who have been on a roll and are now in the playoffs above us as of now? Just weird to think that a team that was basically willing to throw in the towel is now on a 7 game win streak and playing up to what a lot of people thought they could be before the season started.

tbf there's a reason they didnt really consider trading us howard and it's because they had confidence in their team and their ability to bounce back - that's one of the things that makes their season so unique - they weren't really willing to throw in the towel even after a 7 game losing streak

that defence is humming though right now - idk what it was specifically that sparked their defence (and part of it is probably to do with the general quality of the opponents) but they've only given up more than 10 points in 2 games since week 8 (both against the jets)

but... xavien howard locked in opposite humphrey for the next 3 years though would have been incredible (and also would have probably helped us pull out an extra win or 2 this year too) - crucially he's a playmaker (as we saw when we faced them when he forced the fumble and returned it for 6)

That is.......if he doesn't miss any games with us due to injuries and/or COVID because we're cursed like that smh.

He had a great sense of humor. Used to love when he named his “All Madden” teams.
