At the risk of being flogged, drawn and quartered and tarred and feathered I’m going to say that I don’t think Lamar’s passing game will ever be on par with guys like Allen and Burrow. For me what makes him a most dangerous passer is the threat of the run that opens up opportunities. Take that away and I’m not sure what we get.

I sometimes think this as well, but then I look back to the Colts game where he was absolutely flawless during the comeback and looked confident as hell lol

josh allen's arm is ridiculously strong but idk that there's anything that he or burrow have done that we havent seen lamar do as well
the difference is that this year they've both been good against the blitz - burrow's been a whiz vs the blitz this year (albeit it helps that he and chase share a brain and that chase is a freak)

Some or many may disagree but I think letting Roman, Urban, Tee, Williams, Etc get into the lab and continue to expand/tweak the pass game is a better option than tearing down a top 5-10 offense and bringing in someone new to reconstruct it.

I do understand the frustration of many of the fan base but I believe in that old saying “the grass is greener where you water it”

Fix the OL, tweak the passing game, get healthy and this offense is absolutely good enough to win a super bowl

I'm in the camp of changing OC's because of the Lamar factor, but I'm well aware that we need to be careful what we wish for and won't be completely upset if we keep him for one more year as long as he is on the hot seat.

I don't really disagree with this at all. I think The Ravens still have to figure how they can get Lamar Jackson to play more consistent as a passer in regards to his throwing mechanics. Maybe they should promote Urban to passing game coordinator and get new quarterback coach or maybe they just request Lamar Jackson to try something different this offseason training wise to work on his throwing
mechanics.

The narrative has always been Roman’s inability to expand our limited passing game. All the amazing running accolades we have accomplished comes at a cost. In order for Ricard to be on the field, you have to take a receiver off. In order to run that receiver on a jet motion before the snap, you have to accept that it eliminates him as a a legitimate receiving or vertical threat. This offense is holding back Lamar’s true potential. It’s time to move on from Roman and the run heavy/condensed formation schemes.

I don't really disagree with this at all. I think The Ravens still have to figure how they can get Lamar Jackson to play more consistent as a passer in regards to his throwing mechanics. his improved mechanics looked awesome early this year - the work he did with adam dedeaux seemed to really help him with his deep ball and outside throws - no reason not to just keep doing what he was doing in the 2021 offseason

I mean, the running game was garbage up through Miami and until Miami, Lamar was passing better than during his MVP season, so I don't buy this at all.

and while obviously i acknowledge that defences play differently in hurry-up type situations...
lamar's been consistently amazing for most of his career in 2-minute and no-huddle/hurry-up where the run is less of a threat (if any threat at all) and ironically when the ravens have to get out of their "base" offence

I think they keep Roman at least through next year, but I agree with getting Tee and Williams more involved in the play design of the passing game- much more involved.

I agree that his mechanics looked awesome earlier in season last year but some reason it just fizzled out as the season went on before his ankle sprain. It's like the samething happened in 2020 as well. I'm glad you mention Adam Dedeaux because I wasn't sure if Lamar Jackson was still getting coached by Joshua Harris or if he sort help from someone else. I'm sure Jackson knows himself that he needs to be more consistent as a passer throughout the entire season. I think James Urban has done a great job with Jackson and he's probably the next offensive coordinator in line if Roman moves on or is fired but have to wonder if maybe he's maxed out on coaching Jackson and The Ravens need someone new to help Jackson make it to the next level as a passer.

tbh i didnt see his mechanics break down that much later in the year - saw him hitch more sometimes because he was a bit less confident in what he was seeing which meant the pocket was breaking down more at times so the throws were more affected by the inability to step into some throws (which is why some of those shorter passes went low)

i think it was far more about losing confidence in the pocket

ive got no issue with his different arm angles although that would be the one thing id like to see him work on a bit (keep the arm a bit more vertical when he doesnt need to drop to the side-arm) - and it's interesting that dedeaux talked about not wanting to take away his ability to do that with his arm because it's so valuable so they worked a lot on the lower-half and his base, feet and hips

so for me this offseason is going to be about 3 things for lamar personally:
1) repping those mechanics more with the base
2) getting time with his receivers in the offseason that he hasnt been able to get as much of the last 2 years
3) re-establishing his confidence and getting him back to being decisive and hitching less (when he doesnt need to)

now part of that is related to other elements of the offence like improving the pass protection and also making sure we have schematic answers to various coverages etc. that we struggled with

While I understand that desire to move on from him due to some apparent flaws, I always feel somewhat that he never really got a fair shake of it this year with the injuries. We heard all offseason how much we wanted to get the RBs involved in the passing game, and then they got hurt and we had a throwback Thursday RB crew and the RB passing game never materialized. With that being said, some of the route concepts and timing in the passing game were still completely off and it's hard to blame injuries for that. I'm far from a Roman apologist but I can also understand why they want to continue rolling with him if they choose to do so. Just feels like everything this season was a disaster and I can see why they wouldn't be in any rush to make any wholesale personnel changes. I just hope they realize it's not all attributable to injuries and that they need to reevaluate a lot more conceptually. Them not doing that is my big fear more than it being a Roman or not decision.

That too. They're thinking about this a lot differently than we are, and they probably knew this was a "go for it all" type of year with all of the veterans approaching the end of their careers. Unfortunately other things spoiled that, but they also know they have a lot of key pieces in place. Not to say they're content with a "rebuild" next year but as usual, they know the reality despite what their words indicate.

I think they also know that if they fix the OL, they've given Roman and co. every single opportunity to have a dominant offense and if he can't capitalize, I think they know what they have to do.

Lol I’m just SO TIRED of people assuming Roman will improve the pass game the next year. NO he won’t, there are only so many pass concepts you can run when there are three or four guys in the backfield on most snaps. We’re wasting Lamar’s prime by holding onto Roman’s scheme.

He has clearly done enough to show he can handle a more robust passing game. The real issue for me is Roman still has no answers for these overly aggressive defenses. It’s not just this year, but he continues to get passes because of his successes in the run game.

yeah the ravens arent really a "rebuild" type of organisation - maybe "retool" or "reload" is a better term for it - but they're aware that we have a great base on offence locked in for years to come and the opportunity to start putting together a defence to match on a longer-term basis with these picks we've got this year (maybe an offensive lineman too given we've only got 1 guy on the line locked in for the long-term future and he's injured)

ravens want to be good but they're not going to panic and mortgage the future going all in for it especially with all these vets ageing out on defence

and as you say - they have the potential to build this offence into a dynamic explosive point-making machine and if Roman can't do it then the parts are in place for someone else to come in and create something dynamic

they want to do what we couldn't do post-superbowl which is retool while also being good at the same time

the key is going to be making sure we nail our high picks - the biggest issue with the post-superbowl retooling/rebuilding was missing badly on high picks especially in 2013 and 2015 (but 2014 wasn't amazing beyond CJ Mosley either)
