To be completely fair to Trestman and Marty - they also didn't have much to work with. Shit backline, worse O line, scacthy WR group and crap QB, too.

I wonder if we would have had the same success with Rex or Garrett. At least Garrett was an offensive mind who would have developed Flacco a bit earlier, Rex was the rah rah coach.

Who would have last longer and who do we end up hiring to replace them?

Whats funny is the two we complain about the most (Roman/Cameron) are easily the most successful . Roman also had arguably the greatest athlete in Ravens history, Cameron had Joe. I can only imagine how dangerous our offense would have been with Lamar,Boldin,Rice, T Smith Etc. Joe was nice to have but never on Lamar’s level

For starters, I hate the play call IN THAT SPOT, but I don't hate the play call. Offense ain't doing nothing. Gotta create a big play somehow. If those goes for a TD, he's a genius. If this happens, he's a moron. There's no middle ground.

That being said, I'm torn. On the one hand, if you're going to call this play, you have to teach it in a way that the WR (Proche) understands its NOT a must-throw. If its being taught and designed as a must-throw, that's tremendously stupid.
On the other hand, is it reasonable to expect a WR to make that call? I honestly don't know. He's not usually in the business of reading defenses, but at the same time, I can 100% confidently say we've drawn up plays like this on hungover-after-Thanksgiving, past-prime, backyard tackle football games, and even the moron knows not to throw it into triple coverage, and when he basically can't even see the open receiver.

Plus I hate that the RB is the receiver in this spot.

Overall I hate it, BUT, I understand somehow why its called, and I think the WR needs a little better judgment here.

If you're calling this play and not telling Proche that he does not have to throw it then it makes it bad. If you did, and he did it anyways, then it's on him.

I am with you, the idea that this play was called in this spot makes no sense to me.

that's really what i was hoping the 2021 offence was going to be and then it fell apart with injuries
we had probably an even better group of weapons going into the season than in 2012

Hollywood, Bateman, Andrews, Dobbins, Gus is nuts with Watkins, Duvernay etc. too

obviously Dobbins and Gus were ripped away, our OL fell apart without Ronnie, Bateman missed all of preseason and the early part of the season and by the time he got going the season was over because Lamar went down...

2019 was obviously a missed opportunity but 2021 really feels like an insanely unfortunate confluence of events with the way such a promising looking team on paper just fell apart before it even had a chance to make a wave (and then still at one point was in control of the 1st seed)

but 100% you look at the ravens history of OCs and Roman and Cam stick out both in terms of longevity and win-rate - and when you look at points you have to include Kubiak into the mix too - but that top 3 is clear of basically everyone else...

think you could make a case for Caldwell purely based on what he did taking over from Cameron but that's a tiny sample size with a terrible season in 2013 to follow... Cavanaugh had 1 good season that rivalled the other guys in terms of points but not sure he moves the needle

I'd have no issue with how you ordered them... but I'd say there's a pretty clear top 3 OCs in Ravens history:
Cam Cameron
Gary Kubiak
Greg Roman

seems like sacrilege that 2 of the most railed against OCs ever are 2 of the best - but i think all that tells you is that NFL fans (and ravens fans are no different) like change - tells you everything that the most beloved OC is the guy who only lasted a year and the 2 most hated are the guys who lasted a long time

Honestly, I don't like Roman, but I'd probably keep him over Trestman or Marty.

Also good lord Harbs is absolutely awful at picking OCs. He managed to hit on one (Kubiak). The others just always did their damnedest to force square pegs into round holes.

I'll give partial credit for Caldwell. I think he deserved more time. He got kinda screwed by dealing with an awful o-line in 2013.

i mean tbf it's not like Caldwell got fired... he left to become the Lions HC
