Jimmy is 100% a hit if you aren’t accounting for injuries. I mean he did say Luck was a hit for the Colts so he wasn’t really consistent with his analysis in regards to injuries. If Luck is a hit then so is Jimmy.

also he well undersold how good jimmy is - he said he'd been a decent starter with an uptick in production later in his career - but that undervalues him - he's been a top corner in the league for the last 4 years or so despite the injuries - that sounds like a hit to me

Jimmy has to be one of the most underappreciated players in the league. Rarely gets mentioned when people are discussing top corners despite having the stats to back it up. Oh, and while everyone is sucking Antonio Brown's dick all the time, guess which corner has had the most success defending him? I get it, Jimmy's hurt all the time (and it sucks), but he's at least a top 5 corner in the league when healthy. Definitely a "hit" IMO.

jimmy plays good cvg on AB but lets not pretend that he shadows him and doest have help all the time.

Should he not have help? Put any corner in the league on AB 1-on-1 and you're asking for trouble. I'm sure Carr is still having nightmares from when Jimmy went out and Pees left Carr on an island against AB.

ok let's rephrase then...

the ravens, when jimmy smith is playing, are the best team in the league at handling AB

the ravens, when jimmy smith is not playing, are just as unable to handle AB as the rest of the league...

the common denominator is jimmy smith - he allows us to lock up one side of the field which gives us the ability to triple team AB on the other side of the field if we need to or we are able to take AB out of the game with one defender which means the rest of the defence can get more aggressive with the rest of the steelers offensive options

jimmy smith is the reason the ravens are so good at dealing with antonio brown

Jimmy Smith is a top 5 corner in this league when healthy and sometimes plays like the best. The Ravens defense literally goes from top 5 to 30th in the league almost every year he goes down with injury. When ONE player does that to a team you know he is important and good.

i dont disagree with the sentiment but 30th in the league is a bit of an exaggeration lol
i dont know how to find the stat but jimmy also changes our ability to get ints too even though he himself is not an interception monster because we are able to put safeties and linebackers in more aggressive situations that force qbs to fit the ball in tight or non-existent windows

if eric weddle and jimmy smith are both at this year's level next year (i.e. jimmy recovers well from the injury and weddle doesnt decline from age) then this defence only needs to find a pass rush and it will be a turnover machine again - adding tavon who's returning in the slot with his great ball skills too - we've got better hands all over the defence than we had at wr last year lol

He has always been under appreciated until last year actually, last year Jimmy was very close to becoming a household name and ESPN, NFL Network etc all talked about him as a top corner. It was very refreshing...until he got hurt and then he was forgotten about.

you know he was a top corner when ike taylor cannot not mention him in the top 3 corners of his cb rankings

He's even underappreciated by some Ravens fans. Pretty sure I saw a few posts about wanting to trade Jimmy awhile back. lol

if jimmy was to get traded today, lots of the guys here would be saying things like “ we dnt need him anyway, he can easily be replaced, hump has more upside anyway”

It's comical how quickly some will flip on a player just because they hit FA and took advantage of their situation.

if jimmy was traded away we would both lose a top corner and we would lose cap space
the idea is as dumb as the idea of trading joe last year was

Jimmy is probably our best or 2nd best player on the team excluding Tucker. He's also my favorite, but if we got an offer of significant value (2nd or better, though, I doubt it) NEXT year, I'd take it. Team could be in for major change next year depending how this season goes.
