Joe Flacco

He admitted to failing the off-season following the SB and made an effort to upgrade with what was probably the best WR we have ever had in Steve Smith Sr. Also, With Torrey finishing the year with 1,000 yards, you just had to expect more from him with help on the other side. He also made an OL that was 2nd in the league to Dallas.
.

?
the problem is admittin to "failure", mistake, brain fart, whatever....doesn't correct the misevaluation and make the team better. we are still paying for ozze's failures to identify WR ability and his safety purge of 2013 and subsequent misevaluations at that position as well.

its like the bank robber that stole your savings saying, "HECK YEAH, I did that...and I spent yo money bro".

Flacco and the offense have always done extremely well in the past running the no huddle and sugar huddle, no reason why now would be any different other than the different/other personnel on the field. It may be that they have a strategy to shorten the games because of the depleted offensive roster, don’t know.

ALWAYS!

And that is what I don't get about this offense. IF you know that based upon your personnel that your strength may lie within that no huddle and sugar huddle, mixed in with the run and play action; why not just work the hell out of it? I think that slowing Flacco down is actually "dumbing" him down! Marty needs to meet with Joe and allow him to script his own offense. Yeah I said it! :D

I saw a tv piece on Sean Peyton and how he "asked" Drew Brees which formations and plays that he liked to run against their upcoming opponent. Why not allow Flacco to do something similar? Guaranteed he'd probably have that no huddle and sugar huddle in there as his base plays.

It doesn't make sense they haven't done it, unless the guys they are fielding(O line, RBs and WRs) just aren't up to speed or, maybe there just isn't enough of them that are competent. Don't know, but it's frustrating to watch, especially when you've seen the success they've had in the past.

I wanna say it's time for Marty to hit the road, but damn. How many OCs have there been in the last 5 years? Seems like 5, but it's only been 4....lol Just no way there's going to be any consistent success if they can't find and keep the right guy steering the ship.

It ain't easy being a Ravens fan, that's fo show.

Aas I said in my OP, have to throw with anticipation. Can't wait for the receiver to be out of his break to make the throw.
This has largely been Joe's M.O.
He usually, (not always but as is his routine)will wait until he sees a guy come open.

So many of Joe's completions, going back a decade are accompanied by very tight coverage and limited yards to be gained after catch.

I'm pretty sure he could work to improve this part of his game, but he either: 1) Hasn't made sufficient time or given proper import to improving this facet of his game, or 2) He simply cannot process what he sees in coverage.

Marty has to go!

I know that we've had a few O.C.'s and that ruins the consistency in many ways, however, I can't stand the sub-mediocore play calling and game play of our offense. It's sickening and down right embarrassing as a Ravens fan! Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results!

Sure, the players have to execute the plays but let's be honest, I'm pretty sure that they may be sick of the redundancy and lack of creativity in the play calling themselves. I mean, why should they be excited about running the same old plays with no creativity an entire game?

When my wife and I attended the Ravens vs Steelers game a few weeks back, Maclin, came to the sidelines after an abysmal series of piss poor play calling and took off his helmet and was screaming and yelling at Marty. That wasn't televised, shown or spoken about. He actually turned his back on Marty and then walked to the end of the bench by himself. He was livid!

But Marty is doing a wonderful job. :brickwall:

What is the point of trying to be creative when the players cant even excecute the basics?

The ravens run a basic offense because that is what the players can run.

the ravens trying to be creative will probably end up in the oline allowing a free rusher , with the rb helping 2 oliners block 1 guy , while the QB throws it in triple coverage with the receiver running the wrong route........

An NFL.com writer listed Ryan Mallet as the 32nd ranked backup QB in the league. Last place. I know Mallet didn’t look that great this offseason, but wow.

no point shortening the game if we're losing lol

well given that he cant beat out flacco he's hard pressed to be high up on the list

although he's definitely better than matt cassell

So, what you are saying is that we are dealing with the "bad news bears?"

derrick mason prolly had the best stats. but my money is on the boldin/flacco combination. not big on yards or tds, (even tds with smith), but huge on possession and have to have its. they had literally bonded morphed into one by playoffs 2012. flacco was "boldin strong" in the 'negotiations" to retain boldin. all for naught fallin on deaf ears and blind eyes.

they beat up flacco and took away his lunch money
Him and Boldin were a great duo no doubt, that's really close but for me Flacco-Smith Sr. takes the crown because whenever Flacco was in trouble or needed a big play no matter where he was at, he always relied on Smith Sr. and locked on him and more often then not, Steve Smith came through. If I can recall prior to his torn Achilles injury, he was on pace for 1,800 yards, while it was unlikely that he would top that, he was the 6th player in the Super Bowl era to post 10 catches and 150 yards In back to back games, I don't think this is a feat that Joe-Boldin would even come close to accomplishing.

Didn’t Bolden come on after Cam Cameron was let go. Cam wasn’t using Bolden to his strengths. I think Smith and Flacco was the better tandem of the two. It’s pretty close with Mason and Smith, because Mason really was a good wr for Flacco to have in his first three years in the league.

Humpf?

where are you getting on track for 1800 yards?
S.Smith played 7 games that year and midway through that season had 670 yards. which is good but not 1800.
now if you extrapolate total gained yardage after the third game 350 yards out to 16 games yeah that would have gotten him the 1800 but those are ozze and humpf numbers. theres nuthin real to em.

once again, everyone is gonna have their own view when seeing the same thing. mine is that boldin was the guy. ozze's is that he was not. guess the difference there is that I didn't have to say "I failed on that one"!

Smitty was good with us for a couple of years, but would just disappear at times, probably because of his aging, failing body. The year he tore his Achilles he was pretty much the only option for Flacco along with Aiken, so yeah, he was putting up good #s with a lot of targets.

For me Boldin was the guy when compared to Smitty. Keep in mind that Joe had more options when he was here so his #s may not look as impressive. Once they learned how to use him there was no one who could compare. When the ball was thrown to him he was catching it, and if he couldn’t no one else was catching it either. Dude was an animal.
