The WR Thread

I watched them play Clemson this year and he had a heck of a game. There was one play even tho it got called back for holding where he dragged 3 men 5 yds into the endzone. Turned into a superbeast I swear. He just really reminds me of Boldin. Great vid btw and I also notic ed he wasn't even invited to the combine which is just crazy. Another receiver who I think is off the radar is Steven Dunbar from Houston.

I agree and Jmon Moore is a late round under the radar as well

Not saying DJ has necessarily displayed first round talent, but what do you mean by "so much inconsistency"?
When I sat down and watched the tape, the first play I was like "OMG is that Antonio Brown?" and the 5 or 6 plays afterwards, he either showed sloppy routes or sloppy hand technique. Not sayig he dropped, but he would have in the pros with a real CB contesting. After like 3 games I had the exact same impression. Massive potential but right now it's only in flashes, and he just does not do the little basic things well. It just makes me see a guy who could become an All Pro but also could drop three passes in his first 4 games and lose confidence and end up in a Perriman circle. WR is one of those position where I'm super nitpicky about floor and ceiling because we've seen plenty of guys stay on their floor and never be anything more.

OK, but I contribute a lot of what you describe to the multitude of different QBs he has had throwing to him. What you describe as "sloppy" could be attributed to that fact. I don't know what 3 games you watched and wouldn't expect you to know this, but damn! At one point Maryland actually had a LB playing QB! I've never seen a team at any level have such consistently bad fortune at one position. DJ is a strong handed, aggressive receiver who should have no issues with DBs at the pro level.

No matter his level of skills at this point I really don't see why you would think he would start dropping balls and end up like Perriman who had those issues at the college level. Just because DJ isn't "polished", I see nothing that would indicate any reason for concern, for me he displays the skill sets the Ravens desire/need and has nowhere to go but up. I'll admit a bias because he played at my school, but assuming good health IMO he will be a consistently dependable receiver at the NFL level and worth the pick anywhere after 30.

What receivers do you like that you guess might be available in round three?
I like DJ Chark and he may be there in round 3 as well as Dante Pettis and Cedrik Wilson.

I'd seriously consider TE at this point if we havn't drafted one yet.

I was talking about first round, hence my concerns. As a second round pick though, if Cain or Washington aren't there I'm completely all over this pick.

Call me silly, but I'd like to see Andrews, or one of the top O line at 16 as I doubt Ridley or Sutton are still there.

Ian Thomas or Fumagalli in the 3rd? Id also like to get Sony Michel here. Hed really add a dynamic to our backfeild.

DJ on St. Brown: "Just finished studying ND WR Equanimeous St Brown...very interesting player. Creates consistent separation but the ball placement is deplorable. He's got quickness at the top of his route and his ability to adjust is outstanding. I put a big grade on him."

Big grade? Are you saying 1st round pick possibly big? Cause that would be bold

I was thinking as our 3rd comp maybe. I think he can be productive in our system. I mean Ian Thomas in the 3rd is also a stretch if you consider that he has 28 career receptions lol.
Thomas has at least potential. When I watch Fumagali I see nothing. Below average athleticism, slow, just will never separate in the pros...

True, I think we should bring this back ul in the TE thread lol

Do you think theres any way we could have a Dj Moore or Gallup in the 3rd. I really like both of them and think they have instant impact potential which is wbat we desperately need. I dont want busts at reciever and ive noticed a trend lately on ones who bust, they were overrated by speed and route running has become undervalued. John Ross, Perriman, Coleman, and Kevin White all come to mind. They all had crazy speed but didnt run a variety of routes. While guys like Kupp, juju, and Diggs all prosper.

This makes me look at guys like Kirk, Miller, Gallup, Moore, and of course Ridley as guys who should translate well to todays game. While giving me pause on those who dont run many routes; James Washington, Cedrick Wilson, and Courtland Sutton. Washington is the toughest for me because he runs good routes but his tree is limited to 5 routes....similar to corey coleman commimg out.

I just hope the Ravens notice this trend and and get guys that create seperation and get catch. Just get open and catch.....thats all we need

I wouldn't grade him lower than early second. That's an accurate write up on him

I’m a big fan of Brown. Hoping he is available when we pick in the 2nd. Although I like a bunch of wr in the 2nd

Moore nope. Barely could make it to our second pick. Gallup yes, there's a chance although he's risen during the circuit. Combine may slow that down.

But I think you overthink it. Yes route running has to be valued. But Juju was a bad route runner. That was one of his biggest knock actually. Ross (and I never liked Ross, like ever) was a better route runner.

And Coleman has played well when on the field, same for Kevin White, although he's played like 5 quarters altogether. But that is beyond scouting.

It's actually funny because all of Wilson, Washington and Sutton are raw but promising route runners. They don't have a big route tree but have the tools to develop one quickly. Kirk is not really much better, he relies on athleticism a lot.

Overall, there's not a guy in my top ten (which covers all the guys you've listed and more) who I'd worry about route-wise. It's just a work in progress.

Cedrick Wilson could run some filthy ass routes. He lacks some nuances but his stutter step is lethal as fuck. He's got some of the choppiest feet I've ever seen on a wr and that alone makes him a good route runner. He doesn't tip his hat because when he starts his break he's totally unpredictable, those little head and shoulder movements and lack of creativity mean nothing when he chops his feet so fast and exaggerated the db is like "wtf do I do now?". That's probably his biggest strength is the rapid foot movement, it really makes dbs stutter.
