The WR Thread

The more we win and fall down the draft, the more i fear our pick is going to be james washington. Will ozzie learn from his mistakes and not draft a torrey smith / perriman mold, or will it happen again? Calvin ridley should now be gone by our pick and sutton might go in the teens. I just hope it isnt washington. Felt the same way i did when we were on the clock about perriman. Dont crush my heart again ozzie!

As crazy as it sounds, and I didn't like Perriman in the draft process(I allowed him to grow on me afterwards), Perriman was a far better prospect. He was far more twitchy and fluid, he was a hands catcher(lol) where Washington is a arms catcher and a breadbasket catcher, Perriman attacked the ball and made freak plays and Washington just doesn't. Perriman had a lot of stuff to like if you could look past the drops and Washington literally just has a YPR number that jumps off the sheets and that's about it.

I can't see Washington going in the first, and IF he goes in the second it will be because some team just needs a speed threat and feels they have a perfect cast to allow a guy like that in the 2nd.

i think we are gonna address Wr in FA so that we can attack another need with our 1st rnd.

Totally agree. It wouldn't mean we would avoid WR in round 1 but I wouldn't be satisfied with just one WR in next offseason. Give me two starting caliber guys and I'll be cool. Give me a cheap FA lost in the insane class and a promising talent in the draft and that will be better. I also want a TE like Andrews, Goedert or Gesicki. I've yet to catch up with Hurst but I'd still be happy with him. Now we'd have weapons. Add in some OL boost and a complementary RB and we're looking at a top15 offense easy.

I agree. I feel we will adress WR in Free Agency, another need in the 1st round and another WR in the 2nd. I truly believe, unless you are high in the 1st able to draft Ridley, than the sweet spot for a WR is the 2nd round in 2018.

If Sutton is there I don't see how we don't take him tbh. He's perfect for us. Then you take a Mark Andrews in the second round and this receiving corps looks legit. Flacco is just screaming for a guy to dominate the middle of the field.

i want our wr corps to look a little different next year:
- id probably want to re sign wallace and cut maclin
- id want to sign a guy like taylor gabriel to function as a proper number 3 receiver who can play out of the slot
- id want a receiver drafted in the first 2 days (2nd round seems like a sweet spot)
- id want chris moore to stay and maybe resign camp as well if he remains cheap and see what tim white can do off his injury
- and if perriman wants to make the 53 hed better be working super hard on his special teams play because for me hed hopefully come into training camp as the 5th/6th receiver at best

I think we're being harsh with Maclin. If he takes a paycut he's an excellent number 2 receiver. He's often open and a generally reliable option for Joe down the middle. Yes he's injured, but am I the only one to see the hits that he takes? Joe is killing him at times, can't complain about the result.

MIddle of the year I was saying that I didn't want Wallace back, now I'm not sure. If we can get him for a reasonable price, then I agree. Cutting Maclin seems like a no brainer at this point. I'd love Allen Robinson if he is available. Actually I'd probably take Lee as well. I agree with your other statements as well.

He's not reliable if he's not on the field.

We kinda say that every year though, so I'd wait and see... I think this would still be thin for a whole group, the need for a receiving TE is huge.

i meant specifically as a wr group - and remembering that we'd still have chris moore and potentially camp (and tbh id probably want us to bring in someone else too)

but i dont remember anyone saying this was a deep wr corps coming into the year and last year we most certainly didnt either

I remember we said it a lot last year with SSS, Perriman and Wallace coming in play, Aiken coming off a career year, plus a TE group that we thought would be a strength.
