after hours and hours of finding the best programs to convert mp4 into something the forum woukd accept I came to the conclusion I'll have to use screenshots again..sadly.
However
..here we go!
it´s widespread opinion, and I´m a believer as well, that we have no clear top 10 talent at WR this year and that Ridley is going to be the first selected on April 26th.
Given these two things it´s now interesting to know what´s going on with the rest of the class: Sutton was a disappointment find in my book (Jeremiah, whom I didn´t happen to agree often with, lately) has him falling out the his top 5 wideouts as well.
Here´s one other guy who (like the aforementioned SMU) wasn´t a high level recruit, according to Rivals, and adds one massive frame into the list of prospects who are flying under the radar because of Ridley: Simmie Cobbs.
The good thing about this class is that, although there's a ton of guys worth a top 100 selection imo, they present very different styles and skills.
The bad thing is that both of the WRs I've been paying more attention to have shown hands inconsistency (in the case of Sutton it was a hands positioning/technique problem, with Cobbs I see it more like a hand-eye coordination thing).
Since I'm forced to use pics and there's only a certain amount I can post per message, I'd divide the 'report' in sections: Release, catch, block.
But let's start with order: the
release.
The former Hoosier has an imposive height and you most certainly would expect him to show a below average quickness off the stand and to expose his chest to a press man corner.
At the contrary, I must admit I was quite shocked with how easy and natural he makes the mechanics look like.
Here's a thing he does quite often:
Takes an outside release

steps on the corner toes (although not perfectly excecuted), now that he was committing to the outside and thus he's turned.
Meanwhile makes contact with the opponent's inside shoulder (a little weird, because usually you want to hit their elbow).

Crosses his face for an immediate separation

Here´s one similar situation, where he doesn´t really show much wasted motion.
shoulders on top, decisive steps toward the CB
View attachment 639
threatens the inside lane
View attachment 640
nice, wide step to change direction
View attachment 641
little swim without opening his chest too much, and most importantly claps the opponent´s forearm to prevent contact to his body

reaches out for the ball for a long gain.

Here´s one other thing he does to avoid contact
after taking a wide, right first step he pulls back his shoulders to get out of the CB reach

that´s just enough separation for the QB to hit him in stride. Pass will be a bit wide, which leads Cobbs to get back on the CB path, minimizing the separation previously created. Result is a nice 15 yd gain due to Cobb´s one hand catch (sorry, just reached the max number of files uploadable)

Despite the size, he´s a guy that moves very well and can be particularly dangerous with the ball in his hands, although I´ve noticed he slowed down a tad bit in his last year compared to his sophomore campaign. I guess he added a little bit of weight.
