Head Coaching Candidates

Just because Elam failed doesn't mean Humphrey will. Could he? Sure. But so could every other draft pick.

And I'm not sure what you mean when you say that Humphrey isn't a corner.

humpf has speed, can catch a ball and he can tackle..........those are three traits a modern corner must have, but that's all hes got. he lacks all other essential corner traits and those three cannot carry him to proficiency at that position. next year they may be able to slot him at strong safety, but he can never be a free safety and those positions are not interchangeable. whatever he becomes it will not be a competent corner. maybe he can bulk up big time for linebacker

You are watching a completely different person. He can cover and has proved it. He has major intangibles, breaks on screens like no other. You can’t teach intangibles and his antanginles are coming out of his ears. I’m not saying he couldn’t be a safety, but he’s more valuable to us as a number 1 corner and he has that talent.

You're analysis couldn't be further from the truth. He breaks on routes incredibly well and has NFL veteran level anticipation and instinct when it comes to predicting the next move, he is already earning a reputation as a feisty physical guy who won't back down to press any receiver at the line or break early to blow up a play. he hasn't looked anything less than supremely confident on any of his snaps which is almost unheard of from a rookie corner. His footwork has also improved a ton and he looks like a totally new player when he backpedals and he has flipped his hips consistently.

And above all, just the sheer confidence he has makes him look special, idk what you're seeing, he will step up to any receiver no matter how big their name is, and he will jam them into oblivion and anticipate the throw and wreck the play, he's done it consistently when he's played. The only time he's really been beaten is when Crabtree got him on multiple blatant push offs that should've been flagged.

Yeah, I had @Truth go over the Crabtree push offs in the all 22 to confirm it. He’s going to be a top corner in this league.

He also has allowed the 3rd lowest passer rating for rookies with a 67.7 rating per PFF.

was the first to call elam for what he was and the resistance was monumental. made that call on my pre draft analysis and nothing else. humpf failed his analysis so thoroughly that he was tagged with the very same "must not draft" designation. other than the three abilities outlined that he possesses, humpf failed in every other aspect a corner can be evaluated upon. in aggregate humpf failed his corner evaluation more substantially than elam failed his safety evaluation. if you are a fan of the ravens it is tragic and for those that get late on a mediogre fastball the truth will make itself apparent as we crawl along through the next year and a half. How could you know? ozze didn't...but believe this...seeing the future before it its clear to all isn't what you'd think

once again the best indicator of what a G.M. would have done is what he did.

being on the record is important. on the other board I said the only corner I made "undraffable" was humpf. for comparison, matt elam was a starter his rookie season in game 2. he started every game thereafter until about mid season our last playoff year. then it was over. humpf started the Oakland game, which we won! but to this point that's it. elam was gone by year 4. humpf was picked at position 16. can he outlast elam? maybe, but one thing is certain and that is he was drafted to be a corner and he ain't no corner! humpf aint startin, maybe harball sees he ain't no corner. if harball keeps humpf off the corner maybe harball figures he can survive the coachin purge that's building offshore
Just because he has a unique skillset doesn't make him a S. He's a corner through and through, and he's pretty excellent at it right now.

then you my friend are blind

I didn't know where to post this so I'll leave this here. So we trade for the OL from Arizona bergstom (sp?)
And give a conditional pick for what? To cut him and sign griff Whalen. Really this FO (ozzie) has lost his mind....like were good on Oline/sarcasm.. this FO has been making dumb decisions too frequent for too long. Something has too change.

We didn't have enough players on the O line when that trade was made. Conditional pick means just that - Bergstrom didn't do anything - no pick will be given.

Ok I didn't know that about conditional pick. I thought they get a pick then depending on playtime ect.. the pick gets higher. Did he even play a snap?

Are you sure they don't keep the 7th round pick?

nope - trades like this happen all the time - normally the player has to play a specific number of snaps and/or last a certain amount of the season on the roster to make it go from no pick to a 7th (im assuming bergstrom was a 7th because i think we traded for him before bowanko)

he played the second half vs the jags by the way...
but i imagine part of the reasoning for getting rid of him over others was because he wasnt going to play and we might as well guarantee we dont lose that pick...

A name to watch in NFL circles is Todd Downing, the Raiders former qb coach that was promoted to OC this year. He is 37 years old and could be the next Sean McVay.
