Head Coaching Candidates

It’s true, it’s a loophole, but they have to wait for him to go through waivers. Pretty sure they won’t need to give up a pick anymore.
Interesting... but if I'm not mistaken, if he's year four or later (not sure what he is), he doesn't need to go through waivers at all.

But he was re-signed. I feel like that'd be a massive loophole all teams would expose.

yeah because anyone could pick him up when he's released - if he's worth giving up a conditional draft pick someone is likely gonna pick him up on waivers/sign him out of free agency - the ravens i think could do what they did because bergstrom was a train wreck

I'm just wondering what's stopping a team with loads of cap from going, "Hey, we're going to cut you. Just sit tight and we'll re-sign you."

and teams have done that before - i mean we did the same thing (obviously not trade related but still) with justin forsett - but if they're worth a pick they probably arent worth risking on the open market whereas if they arent worth the pick then neither team will likely care given that this is likely the 53rd man on your roster

This is what you get when the head coach is neither a offensive or defensive guru and can't hire / evaluate the right coordinators. Our best year post Lewis-Reed era was when we had a great coordinator in kubiak. Now we're stuck with harbs, marty, and pees.

Flacco carried them in 12, and if your logic is those guys were the reason for their success, that falls on the FO did more of those caliber players not easy obviously but still

Stop that man... Flacco did not carry this team in 2012, he had an average regular season ( although it looks great compared to the crap he's done since ). The offense as whole was middle of pack.
The defense had a middle of pack year instead of the normal high ranking year ( Suggs missed 6 games before returning off the Pup list , R.Lewis went down, Webb went down )

People give Flacco all the credit for having a good playoff run ( and finally doing his part with the offense ) but that same love isn't extended to that Defensive Unit that forced multiple Turnovers in every single playoff game giving the offense short fields etc. the offense just finally cashed in and did their part.

Just watched harbs presser this guy is in denial. Basically just mentioned we need to do better on run D. No mention of offense or anything went straight to Thursday's nights game. He really needs to go And his coordinators too.

Teryl Austin is my first choice

Yeah I've heard good things about him
I think Harbaugh is done. From everything I hear we looked defeated, even Suggs sounded that way. Black Monday is going to see him without a job and he'll probably fuck off to college... Which would actually be really good for him.. He'd excel there.

This is who I think we go with. He's a very good defensive mind, and honestly we have a fuckload of talent on defense. If anyone could maximize it, it'd be him. Lots of young dline depth, some nice options at OLB, good secondary. Only issue is Weddle has been on the decline this season and Jefferson has also been taking some poor angles. One member will say that "I knew he could never cover"(he clearly never watched him with the Cardinals smh. He can cover, he's just struggling now for some reason). Our safeties have been total ass for some reason even though both are proven, capable pros. I don't think that's Pees' fault, he doesn't make them take certain angles and he's not the one making mistakes in coverage, but I do think losing Leslie Frazier hurt us to some degree. Austin was a damn good secondary coach for us, and well he's personable. Given his familiarity with the organization, it makes sense.

When Harbaugh get's fired this is what I would do.

1. Retain Roman. His scheme works. I'm not sure I'd institute him as the OC, but keep him around. He's a good mind to have. Also retain our current oline coach, and keep our LB coach.
2. Hire of Teryl Austin.
3. Hire Ted Monachino to be the "defensive coordinator". Austin will be running the defense, but Monachino will still be able to coach the linebackers, which is something he excelled at here.
4. Find a good offensive coordinator. Preferibly someone who just got fired. Hue Jackson anyone? He's probably going to get fired(because the Browns are idiots) and he's been proven to be a very effective OC.
5. Actually hire a fucking QB coach. I still think Flacco can turn it around. He's regressed for some reason. But either way, we should draft someone this offseason just in case he cannot. So we need a QB coach.

I wrote a wrap up article with a bit of a different spin than previous weeks, in case anyone is interested. I kinda touched on a few things in this thread.

We need a offensive minded HC plain and simple. Look at what the Rams offense is doing in the first year under Sean McVay, someone who can come in and give one final effort to fix Joe and the offense.

Bringing in an offensive minded coach doesn't guarantee anything. Hue Jackson sure as hell hasn't turned Cleveland's offense around. And Harbs replaced an offensive minded coach, Billick, who never gave us that great of an offense. Better than the current one, but still not that good.

Cant fix joe imo. He doesnt even step into throws anymore. Mechanics all fked up and moves like a robot. He is done. Best thing we couldve done is give him an outstanding defensive and run game

I love how the legend goes Flacco did all. Also, for most of the season the run defense was AWFUL, IIRC. The truth is both sides stepped their game up in the playoffs, with Flacco playing A-1 ball. We finally saw what happens when all phases worked together, minus special teams in the Broncos game.
