Fire Dean Pees Thread

He isn't good. Period. One need only watch the Vikes defense to know the difference between a defense with good players and a good DC and a team with good players and a below average DC.

One could make an argument we have more talent, position for position on defense but we look like we have scrubs. It is funny to me that what I've been claiming about Pees for years everyone is finally understanding. He was given the talent and he still manages to make them look like bums.

I wouldn't say as much talent but defense is definitely underperforming. I'd also like to point out we traded down when we had the chance to grab Harrison Smith... Everything worked out because of the ring, but damn I wish we had taken him.

You will be stuck with Pees for at least another year. I don't think he goes, but would have no problem with it. I honestly don't understand how these guys are playing so poorly on this side of the ball. I'm too defeated right now to even rant. It is what it is at this point and nothing will improve this season. Best we can hope for is that young guys at least get acclimated with the system and can maybe be relied on next season. Another serious question might be a scheme switch with our current personnel.

I agree that nothing improves this season, but nothing improves next season if we don't start taking those steps. That means dumping the trash that is our coordinators (both of them) and moving forward. This season is done, let's begin trying to improve for next season.

All hands on deck. This ship seems to sinking quickly. Harbs and friends will claim weekly improvement while nothing changes as this thing bottoms out next season. Looks like the team's not even buying this crap anymore. Suggs post game interview showed what we've all felt. This defense feels lost and the players seem to be checking out.

I disagree. If plavyers aren't executing I'm pointing my finger at the coaches and Pees is at the top of the chain. He puts them in position and if they keep taking bad angles why is this not corrected from practices and film watching. Hell bench em for a series to make a point. Thing is the runners shouldn't even be reaching the secondary. Why's the front 7 not clogging holes? Its partially scheme. Maybe not having proper personel on field. Dean Pees is the commander of this defense and damn right he should get a lot of the blame.

Now lets go get "Stone Cold" Teryl Austin. Give me a "Hell YeaH". **drinks beer**

Yeah, we're heading to week 8 and the same issues show up every week with the defense. A better DC would have corrected at least some of these issues a long time ago.

Also, our pass rush has completely vanished. You can attribute it partly due to teams running the ball 30-40 times a game because we can't stop the run, but, once again, a better DC would be able to scheme blitzes better to actually get to the quarterback. I can only imagine what this defense could do with a DC like Wade Phillips (he could/would turn Tim Williams into a pass-rushing monster like Demarcus Ware and Miller).

Yep I can't believe how bad the defense is underperforming. I expected the offense to be as bad as they are, but the defense was so hyped and already #1 through 12 weeks and they aren't even injured this year with so many additions.
Not to mention that Jimmy has elevated his play and looks like an All-Pro this season, I just don't know why this defense is this bad. Chemistry and what not seems to be an issue but not finding a way to get Tim Williams on the field honestly has me heated.

I don't watch the post game interviews anymore but when someone else mentioned Suggs' interview, I had to go watch it. Saddest thing I've seen in a long long time.

I think Dean does a good job with older players, the new ones? Not so much

I miss the "Organized Chaos" days of old. We have all of these young players that we SHOULD be an attacking defense with players flying around the field and blitzing from all of these different angles, but instead we play this vanilla D every week where we play more reactive than anything. We should be putting pressure on opposing offenses and forcing mistakes instead. Not to mention that the "bend, but don't break" philosophy only works if the defense doesn't break (considering all of the big plays that we've been giving up anyway, what's there to lose?).

Well, I would say that our defense does a good job not breaking...they tend to start struggling when the offense gives the ball back 4 straight times.

I agree with you, I hate the bend don't break mentality especially with how our offense is struggling. Out the gate our defense comes out looking good, may allow a big run or pass here and there and still stop the offense from scoring a TD.

The young guys need to be in the game, Tim Williams and Judon going after the QB. Hump in coverage....I do not understand what the end game is

Exactly. Let the young bucks play and let them do what they do best. Tim and Judon should be harassing the quarterback all game while Jimmy and Marlon play press coverage. If they give up some big plays then they give up some big plays, but at least they're leaving it all out on the field. I'm tired of watching the defense just sit back in zones all game and letting offenses pick them apart.

I find myself yelling at the screen

Also, Cj Mosley's rating in Madden is 82 overall. I am angry

Bumping this one up. Enough with excuses and bullshit. Let him go.

Since we hired him we have had conservative play calling blowing too many leads that would have made our seasons much different. Hell, we almost blew the Super Bowl because of his conservative play calling! Ozzie went out and got all this talent on defense to fix those issues but you can't fix it with the same conservative play calling year in, year out. He won't have a chance to retire, fire him. I'm going to bed, I better wake up to the news of him being fired.

Pees isn't getting fired but...

1. We have Tyus Bowser. An athletic freak who excels and has good coverage skills. Why are we using him almost exclusively as a pass rusher. I get it, he can beat RTs with his athleticism, but that's a misuse of his talent.

2. Tim Williams needs to play more as a situational pass rusher. Za'Darius sucks and Judon's sacks are coverage sacks. There are plays this season where Tim has soundly beaten the RT and has effectively applied pressure on the QB... TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

I mean.. Both of these two have flashed. The more live reps they get, the better they're going to be. Use them, damnit.

That last night was pathetic, no other word for it. 3rd & 13 on the final drive and we leave James wide open in the middle of the field to make a 14 yard catch haha. Yet again we lose a game against the Steelers on the final drive because the defense can't do it's job. They've won us a ton of games this season to be fair but when your offense scores 38 points, you can't give away 39 points. That's ridiculous.

The offense still irritates me a bit though.

2nd & 10 - Flacco throws 1 yard behind the line of scrimmage with 3 defensive players charging at the receiver.
3rd & 10 - Flacco does the exact same thing again to make it a rapid 3 and out.

Can't wait for DIxon to get back so Allen can take less reps. Sick of seeing that guy go tumbling down after the first sign of contact. Half of the time he trips himself up.

Cris Collinsworth said it himself. "They drove down the field completely on checkdowns". Only thing he didn't mention was they was checkdowns with shitloads of YAC. Soft pillow zone bendy don't break bullshit defense!!!!!
