well it would certainly be one way for those 2 to become instant mythical figures within the ravens fandom - who every year will be held up as "should replace Roman" or even "should replace Harbs"

Oh without question. I just like the idea of new blood with that group and would really just like to give them a project and see what they can do with him. Granted, I also thought virtually the same thing when Bobby Engram was hired and we see how that worked out lol

haha - i think with the evolution of social media etc. even in the last 5-6 years, the access we have to coaches and others is so great that you can see the process

there can be no doubt at all that Keith Williams is a great WR technician as a coach - i think it would be hard for any self-respecting ravens fan to look at his body of work (that you can watch a ton of because it's on his twitter or on youtube and other places) and say he's not a really good WR coach

it becomes much harder at that point to argue it's the coaches and not the players

as much as we ragged on Bobby Engram it's not like he had much talent to work with as a WR coach - and he's clearly done great with the TEs lol

the real question will be for me - after 2 seasons of mostly nothing... can Dubb and Tee Martin (who i haven't mentioned above just because there's less stuff available to watch of him as a coach - and a lot of it is 5+ years old) elevate Boykin and turn him into something because that would be the biggest initial boon to their cases lol - if they can take the guy who's basically a specialist downfield blocker and turn him into an actual WR

obviously though im with you and would love to give them more young guys to work on - there's so many guys i like in every one of the first 5 rounds at WR this year

i'm mostly excited though for Marquise to get to work with these guys - with the way he started refining his releases last offseason i think there's a huge jump still coming for hollywood to put it all together and be consistent

Rashod Bateman ran a hand-timed 4.37 forty and a laser-timed 4.39 at the EXOS combine. I feel like we just lost him barring a pick swap with the Chargers because no way he makes it to the late teens or 20's now.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...-runs-a-sub-4-4-40-yard-dash-at-exos-combine/

i think he was already long gone if teams weren't over-thinking the tape

he's this year's jefferson (but going earlier)

he's my WR2 and has been for weeks

EDIT: that being said i dont think his play speed says he's a 4:39 but he's not slow - just wouldn't describe him as a sub 4.4 type of player...

Whats your thoughts on Tuney? Seems like a solid day two pick .

I think Toney’s a day 2 guy - I’m a bit lower on him than it seems the media are though - like I look at what he does with his quickness and I see quicker and shiftier guys with better hands or better route runners or just faster

and then of course Toney has fewer starts, less production but also has some drops (which turned up in senior bowl practices too)

I just don’t see a stand-out quality to his game vs a lot of other guys in this class

but I’d take him in the 3rd round sure - maybe late 2nd

i know lol - he was my favourite guy and i thought he was going to go earlier but was holding out hope because not many boards have him that high yet

but i think he's clearly a top 15 type player in this draft class who might go slightly later just because WRs normally don't go super early
So should i just stop imagining him in purple and black?

I’m getting excited for the possibility of upgrading the receiving corps through the draft. There seems to be plenty of solid prospects on day 2

an absolute ton of guys - possibly even more than last year which was an awesome group - the 2nd round of 2020 is unlikely to be repeated because the depth of talent in the 1st and 2nd round of 2020 was insane - but i think i like the depth through into the 3rd round more this year than i did in 2020...

some good receivers are likely going to go on day 2 but it's also likely that some good receivers are going to slip into the 4th round too

i think there's lots of talent at receiver in each of the first 4 rounds this year

Think I wanna revert back to my original thoughts on the day 2 wr tier, I think St Brown is probably the clear best receiver in that R2/R3 group, I’d really like him in Baltimore, hes an exceptionally agile, bursty, flexible, sharp kind of athlete, a very natural tracker and catcher, great play strength, he’s got that dog in him, he and Lamar are 2 players that are pissed off for greatness, honestly pairing him with a personality like Lamar is enough alone to intrigue me

What about elijah moore? I think st brown fits here better though

i think both would be great fits - think elijah moore's probably the more refined prospect but amon-ra's got that extra bit of length

i'd take elijah moore if picking between the 2
Havent looked deep into st brown yet, only seen the contested catches basically. Im guessing his rte running is atleast decent with how elusive he looks.. i love
Moore, just dnt know how he would fit with brown small ass on the other side

Tj vasher is what i hoped boykin could be

I’m curious to know what our forum scouts opinion is on this guy? I’m no scout but I think he looks decent. Hands catcher, plays to his size. Decent speed. I wouldn’t be against using a late round pick on him and give our new wr coaches a project.

my notes on Vasher:

  • 6’6 210lbs
  • Massive with incredible wingspan and length – a decent athlete given his size
  • Good hands – sometimes spectacular – can make ridiculous grabs with full extension to high-point and the ball will just stick to his fingers – there are frustrating moments where he doesn't track the ball well but mostly very good at the catch-point and often shows good body control – catch radius is ridiculous
  • Decent athlete especially at his size – at his best working vertically where he can use his long-strides
  • As you’d expect at his size he’s a pretty linear athlete – doesn’t have a ton of fluidity in his cuts and rarely separates working horizontally
  • Very limited route-tree
  • Really struggles with contact through the route – can be erased from the play by physicality which obviously isn’t ideal from a bigger receiver – doesn’t show a ton of strength – and doesn’t stack well – doesn’t have the burst or acceleration to explode at the breakpoint
  • Has some decent footwork at the release though – but worryingly it doesn’t translate into beating press
  • Seems to not have the best feel for how to run his routes – especially at the top of the stem on those vertical routes – doesn’t stack consistently and sometimes running the route into the coverage
  • Doesn’t separate
  • Has some redzone upside
  • Not a good blocker
to me he's maybe draftable but more likely a UDFA (he's got a udfa grade from me but got no problem with someone who tells me they'd draft him late day 3 - for what it's worth there's no 7th round grade on my board... the lowest draftable grade is a 6th) - he's a maybe developmental redzone weapon but he doesn't block, is unlikely to contribute to special teams and doesn't offer much beyond his length in terms of plus traits - and worryingly he doesn't play big through the route only at the catchpoint - really struggles with physicality, can't beat press, can get erased later in the route by contact - and while i'm not really worried about production generally it isn't a great sign that he didn't produce much at all

and on top of it all apparently there's some motivation and work ethic concerns (unconfirmed though)

so he doesn't separate and he doesn't win physically - and he doesn't offer blocking or special teams value - he's someone who will have a chance in a training camp somewhere but it's hard to imagine how he'd make a 53 man roster - there's lots of bigger receivers i'd take over him

he's WR 38 for me as it stands right now (still a few left to work through)

i compare him to someone like Trevon Grimes (who i would draft late) - who had much better production, has better craft in his route-running, and plays far more physically, and blocks
