The Good, the Bad, the Ugly, and the Ravens Offense: Week 6 Edition

Even really good receivers have problems with drops. The difference is they keep getting targets. He does get open
So - he's open and Flacco just doesn't bother to throw it to him?

Look - again, I've defended this guy against so many nay-sayers. Give him a chance, give him a chance, give him a chance ... I'm just tired of repeating it.

I'd love nothing more than to have him explode and for you to come out here later and call me a fucking idiot. I'd be a very, very happy fucking idiot.

I have to say that when Perriman dropped that ball and threw it up for the Bears I thought of the Mark Clayton drop when we were ready to score on the Patriots during a regular season game to win it.

I said then and there that Clayton would never make it. This is Perriman's Clayton moment.

Ohhhh i remember that one...still such a cringe worthy moment.

Seems like our front office desperately needs to hire someone who can better scout these college WRs.

We drafted Mark Clayton late 1st Rd and got atleast 'something' out of him. But ultimately no where near enough.

10+ yrs without drafting a 1st Rd WR since Clayton and we take Breshad Perriman. He looks good on paper...4.3 speed athletic freak, but drop and injury worries lead him to be our 3rd-4th receiver in a year we could desperately use his talent.

I'm just done with Perriman, it's clear he can't stay healthy and make even a grain of an impact when we need him most

Our offense needs to adapt to the new NFL-style and concepts. We never try to take advantage of bunch or trips concepts. I hope Roman implements this power read option that the chiefs are running. But in the end our WR have to get open. Another thing I don't get is targeting Fuller 20x. It didn't work several times. Why MM why?
I don't see any chance at all against the vikings.

People need to stop babying the young WRs. If they were good there'd be some more evidence of that by now. Even if they very occasionally make some plays, it's clear they're not anywhere near being well rounded enough to consistently succeed. They all lack things and when you add in the complete absence of development from coaches it becomes a shit show. Wallace and Maclin are short term options. The whole unit basically needs an overhaul when looking to the future. What's new in Baltimore

... and THAT is unbelievable to me. We're talking about 20 years of football. How is it that we can't correct that? If we have guys that can't develop receivers - are there no creative minds in the league that we can hire?
Our great defenses of the past were masking all of that stuff. Then we got complacent and confident that Flacco's SB play was what we'll see in the future and paid him for what he did, not what he realistically can do. Kept doing the same, believing that somehow our defense is still great and completely neglected the other side of the ball. Throw in couple or three major injuries, below average OCs, HC that uses stickers to motivate players and that's it.

Our offense would be better off if we just fire Marty Mornewhig, which is vastly overdue.

We ran the ball on 80%+ of our first half plays and what did we get for it? Nothing.

I've said for weeks now Mornewhig runs the shotgun draw more times on 2nd/3rd and long than any coach in NFL history with no success- Yet, He keeps. On. Running. Shotgun. Draws. On. 2nd. And 3rd. And. Long....with no success. Lol

Harbaugh continues to defend him and say "theres no need for changes/ we won't make changes, we just have to improve".

This pisses me off and makes me want to fire Harbaugh, Harbs WAKE UP. Last time I checked you were a special teams ace not an offensive ace.

Our offense is the worst in the league thanks in large part to our God awful OC and yet you refuse to deal with it.

So if we don't fire Mornewhig I say fire Harbaugh...his feeble and defensive coaching antics have gone on long enough. Give us a truly offensive minded/defensive minded HC and I betcha we'll see much needed improvements, aside from the consistent- "we gotta be better" comments form Harbaugh.

No I'm far from a fair weather fan, I just KNOW our team should be able to be a contender even with this banged up roster right now, and I'm ready to see us be a contender again.

I've personally never been a fan of this logic in general. It's predicated upon the presumption that the QB always finds the open target literally every time they're open, which is significantly unrealistic. It doesn't take into account any of the variables, i.e. the numbering of progressions, hot reads, time to throw, play-calling, etc. That's not at all stating that Perriman has consistently netted separation and simply hasn't been found. He hasn't blown us away by any means this season in that respect on tape. But reducing the barometer to Player X not being targeted, therefore Player X not finding separation is the epitome of an oversimplification.

I keep seeing this narrative pushed that the Ravens just ignore the offense and don't do anything for Joe, but the Ravens spend $19M more in cap space on the offense than the defense.

I personally don't care if we fire Marty. Yes, he's horrible, but enough of this OC carousel. Harbaugh has reached his limit on hiring shitty OCs. This is his bed. He's made it - he's gotta sleep in it. We don't need another scrap heap OC and then get to say at the end of the season, we'll - he's new, gotta given him a chance.

Steve has given Harbs lattitude to build his staff as he sees fit. If he can't put together a decent coaching staff, maybe we need a new HC

We'll unless we're seeking out and analyzing tape, what else do we have to go on?

Over enough time, all things should average out - so in the end, it comes down to production.

I think its more of a frustration that we still dont have any offensive talent. None. Its astonishing

I would disagree with this sentiment vehemently.

I think we saw last year that and even against the Raiders that Wallace can still produce at a high level. We know that Maclin can be on when he's playing. Benjamin Watson has been shockingly good for this team. Alex Collins is proving to be a damn good runner. Ronnie Stanley, Ryan Jensen, and Austin Howard provide a really good core of offensive lineman.

This offense has plenty of talent and has players capable of making plays.

Wallace is 30 maclin is close to that and watson is 35. Theyre all past their prime and we have no one behind them. Dont talk about Collins.....we picked him up off a practice squad. You telling me we cant draft a better RB in the past 5 years. Dont kid yourself. This offense lacks talent at skill positions in a bad way.

Results are results, sorry to everyone who had high hopes for Perriman but the writings were on the wall a long time ago.

Ive been saying for weeks that we deserve every shitty result for such a fucking inept offense.

I don't care how old they are. The fact of the matter is that these players have shown that they can play. Larry Fitzgerald is 34 and he's still an animal. Pretty sure Jerry Rice did it until he was nearly 40.

Who cares where Collins came from? He's shown that he can bust off big plays. Richard Sherman was a fifth rounder, Chris Harris Jr. was undrafted, James Harrison came off the practice squad, Donald Driver was a seventh rounder, etc.

The fact of the matter is that the Ravens invested good money into players like Maclin, Wallace, and Watson and they are showing this year that they are very capable of still going out there and making plays.

It’s like you people forget Perriman was really raw out of college. He is literally in his second year (I don’t count his rookie year), and he’s never had a healthy offseason to actually develop. I hope he freaking puts it together and leaves after next year and becomes a pro bowler somewhere just so I can laugh at you people saying he’s been a bust for a long time.

Our homegrown running backs since Rice have been trash, our homegrown recievers are trash, Torrey wasnt that good and we got lucky with Pitta. We just don't know how to develop offensive players.p
