The Good, the Bad, the Ugly, and the Ravens Offense: Week 6 Edition

So, I know some people were getting upset with the play of the Ravens defense, but when I was doing my write up, I stumbled upon some dismaying statistics.

The Bears managed only four scoring drives on 16 total drives. One of those drives started at the Ravens 20, so a bit more like three in 15.

The Ravens had FOURTEEN tackles for loss and four sacks. Nearly one in four offensive plays for the Bears was a guaranteed loss of yardage.

Before Jordan Howard's 53 yard run in OT, the Ravens defense allowed 2.97 yards per carry to Bears running backs.

The Ravens allowed like 29% of third downs to be converted into first downs, including any penalties that resulted in a first down.

If anyone wants to blame the defense for this loss, you need to rethink things heavily.

well the bears have a poor one dimensional offense and we had them at home. don't put to much stock in that defensive effort. our defense has big problems just not as big as our offense.

I think Jeremy Maclin and Alex Collins have both proven to be play makers.

But do me a favor and name the rookie receivers and tight ends the Ravens have had a lot of success with recently and we'll begin to understand why they target veterans.
And isn't that part of the overall issue as well? No eye for offensive talent? I mean, yeah we can talk about it being development, and I'd say that definitely plays a part, but the truth is that the offensive talent we draft always have those "questions" like Perriman and his hands. And those "questions" always turn out to be why they suck. Either way, all of that falls squarely to an issue with the FO. If we can't develop them, why aren't we getting better position coaches in here? If we can't pick them, why aren't we getting new scouting talent in here? And I said playmaker. While I think Maclin is solid, and like Collins a lot, a playmaker is someone who consistently makes big plays. Neither of them fit that definition.

Oh, I can think of one particular poster who did blame and will continue to blame the defense....
lol Oh get off it. No one is blaming the defense for the loss but the fact remains, pull out any cherry picking stats you like but year after year it is the same issue. Play great, play good and then crap the bed when it matters most.

The offense clearly did nothing this game. But I don't even blame them really. This is poor coaching, bad play calling, bad drafting, lack of foresight when your offense was your worst unit and got ignored.

I said this patchwork shit Ozzie does with the offense year after year and his hording of picks instead of trading up for real talent would blow up in our faces. BOOM!

Except, Collins is averaging like 7 yards per carry and has gotten a 20+ yard run in each game he's played in. Dude is making plays.

I would definitely argue that Jeremy Maclin is a play maker. Can't really help if the ball isn't put into a catchable spot.

The Ravens have had this issue with receivers since their inception, so they have cycled through receiver coaches and scouts. Not really sure what to do.

We're going to blame the defense for not making a stop on the 16th drive the Bears had, but give the offense a pass because of what...? I just can't fathom this double standard.

Offense gets literally -4 points on two turnovers and it's not their fault. Defense finally gives out on the 16th drive of the game when the offense had a three and out or turnover on NINE of THIRTEEN drives and we're upset that the defense broke. I'm just speechless at how up in the clouds you are.

Joe is surrounded by veterans and expensive pieces that the Ravens acquire in free agency. When there's a $19M difference between the cap being spent on offense and defense, it becomes a false narrative that the Ravens are ignoring the offense. The Ravens are pushed up to the cap year in and year out trying to find Joe something that he can work with.

Yeah, it blew up in our faces when we had six offensive lineman get injured or retire and when Maclin got hurt. You have same amazing foresight. I can't believe how good at this you are.

The fact of the matter for me is this- the Ravens defense should not be in a position to break like that, but the offense played like total ass. The Bears scored 14 points off of turnovers from the offense and were all but guaranteed 10. I can't put this on the defense when the offense fails to move the ball and gives up pick 6's. If Joe doesn't throw that pick 6, there's a good chance there is no OT. There's a good chance the Ravens are feeling pretty good about their 4-2 record. If the Ravens convert 3rd and 2 in OT, we might be feeling good about 4-2. Why are we upset that the defense broke when the offense did next to nothing to secure this win? The offense scored NINE points. The damn ST's units scored more points than the offense. That's pitiful.

Of course. Until we become the 2000 defense that poster will continue to blame the defense.
The Ravens had a three and out or a turnover on NINE of THIRTEEN possessions and we're cool with the offense, but hey, we're upset that the Ravens defense broke on its 16th drive of the game. Makes sense.

If defense was replaced with weddle and Jefferson youd be onto something.

Weddle with the awful tackle, jefferson blew 2 coverages resulting in tds.

Everyone else done their job. Judon was the standout

I really can't blame Weddle for attempting the strip. Not stopping Howard is something else, but there was absolutely NOTHING from the offense to inspire hope they'd move the ball with another punt. I'd assume he figured get the ball loose, kick the fg and get the fuck out with a win.

I'd also like to say I wasn't a huge fan of the Jefferson move initially, but accepted it. Those TDs we're bad. I prefer more athletic safeties if we're actually going to break bread, but it is what it is.

Weddle’s tackle reminds me of Mosley and Jernigan’s turnovers that ended up back with the opposing offense. The defense has no faith that even if they get a turnover at the one yard line that the offense can punch it in.

Not sure I can put the second TD on Jefferson. Looked like a miscommunication. Webb just completely allows a receiver to run right by him and Jefferson tried to salvage the play and damn near almost did.

I...didn't even realize that. That is a new low. I mean considering that we have been struggling in finding a PR and scoring off ST, that is really a new low for this offense.
They give credit for 11 points to the offense (3 field goal drives, 2 pt conversion). Personally, I'd only give 9 to the offense. The two point conversion is only possible thanks to Camp.

Plus, we don't give 1 pt to the STs when an extra point is made. We give 7 to the offense. Give the STs their two.

Yeah I was going to say I feel like that play wasn't Jefferson's fault and he almost saved it... I don't know why but it seems like there is a miscommunication issue every game near Webb. I don't understand why but there always is.

Clearly you can't read. "NO ONE is BLAMING the defense". "Clearly the offense did nothing. But I DON'T even BLAME them really". So not blaming either for anything because the issue falls way higher up. Not blaming them does not mean ignoring the issues they had. Again, EVERY SINGLE TEAM HAS INJURIES EVERY SINGLE SEASON. In fact, many have key players get injured. So no one is accountable until we have a season where no one gets injured? It's comical.

And stop saying bs things. I've not seen anyone who is "cool" with the offense. I believe most have called it pathetic, vanilla, ridiculous, garbage, etc. Not just for this game either. And you are one to talk about being "cool" with mediocre shit considering NOTHING is ever the defense's fault, or Pees' fault, as long as one person is injured.

not only this but out of the bears 3 turnovers i think they got 14 points and out of the ravens turnovers we got a net of -4 points - literally our offence gave the bears points off of our turnovers...

Btw, anyone catch another piss poor performence by the baltimore media? softest media in sports.

if this were a big market team they would be taking harbaugh to task.
