2018 Free Agency

Probably will hit free agency. It already is paying Hurns. Has to sign telvin Smith and pay Blake Bortles. And feels very confident about its skilled rookie receivers Cole and Westbrook. And Jacksonville is rumored to be looking for oline help in free agency.
Now that I think of it, there's no way we'll sign him given SF's insane cap space and their dire need of WR as well. And then there's this as well. I bet that the free agent receiver mentioned below is Robinson.

A WR hitting free agency this offseason texted me out of the blue: "What's San Francisco like? Man, Jimmy G is a baller."

I'd bet Taylor Gabriel because Shannahan

Doesn't really matter who it is, the fact of the matter is that SF has 10 times as much cap as we do (litterally) and a much better QB and play caller.

tbf they might have the best situation in the league at this point...

they have a franchise qb who they are about to give a lump of money
they have the best offensive playcaller in the league and they have him nailed onto a long-term deal
they have with a minimal roster around their franchise qb managed to finish the year 5-0 as a starter beating some big-time playoff sides on the way (including the jags who are in the conference title game)
they have tons of cap space moving into the offseason
they have 4 picks in the first 74 in the draft including a top 10 pick

as it is they were virtually a playoff team (on form) at the end of the year even before the inevitable influx of talent they'll have coming in this offseason and add to that more time for Jimmy G in the 49ers scheme and this could become an absolute juggernaut team - NFC West looks like a potentially terrifying division next year and for the future especially if you're a cardinals fan

Makes sense. He knows SF has most money. Ravens could sign

Makes sense. Sf has most money to spend with Cleveland. Ravens could make it happen with Robinson. But would have to cut some older players and trust finding young contributors. Could have to turn to Marqise or Richardson. Richardson is a wild card. Uber talented game breaking speed. Can get separation as well as the acrobatic catch look routine. But he was injured early on and played behind established playmakers. So never got his audition. He was so underrated coming out of college. Many thought he was as good or better than Watkins but were scared of his skinny frame. But he is up to 180 lbs or so and has big soft hands. About same size as chad Johnson 6’0 and change 180-185. Marqise is kinda on same train and track. Injured early on. Fell behind several young talents. Yet Uber skilled himself. I have friends in Florida that say sports writers long maintained he was better than Hurns and would show it when he got his chance.

If ravens don’t land Robinson, can yet strike Gold in Richardson or Marqise. Then get somebody like Brice Butler on a cheap prove it deal. We can rebuild the weapons but have to be innovative. Oakland is gonna be shopping for WRs as well. Cuz Gruden is going to dump washed up Crabtree and look for young hungry receivers with speed and skills. Ravens can rebuild or should I say BUILD the WR unit. But gonna have to dump its castaway strategy and show some actual craft projecting young WRs hitting the market.

We could convert 5.25m of Weddles salary to signing bonus allowing it to be spread over the life of the contract. Then extend him one year. This would allow us to save 3.5m of cap space.
Very possible that Weddle doesn’t see the extended yr in his contract, but it gives us some cap space, where in a couple yrs we have a lot of space.

Cut Maclin saves 5m
Cut Howard saves 3m
Cut Webb saves 1.75m
Cut McLellan saves 1.25m

That’s 14.5m saved before we extend CJ Mosely and Jimmy if we choose to do that.

We should be fine

In my opinion Richardson is similar to Diggs. A little faster but not quite as elusive after the catch. And Marqise is a more physical version of Diggs. Can do same things. As explosive and elusive or better. But he will make those third and 10’s over the middle in traffic. A component of his game the highlights criminally leave out!!

This is gonna go over like a lead balloon, but here is the cold hard truth. These are facts. This is not speculation. This is the way it is...

Who has been our best corner the last four years? The same guy that's been our most injured corner. Did you know that come the first game next year, he is going to be 30 years old? That is a fact.

Last year he played 12 games. The season before 11 but not at a very high level.

He played 16 in our 5-11 season and the year before that he played 8.

As a young corner he was missing games his first two years. He goes lame thinking about football. Hey, an athlete has a body for the game or he don't. You gotta start with a solid body, like Carr for instance. After that, you decide if your athlete has a mind for the game. Heck we got a receiver whos got neither.

Folks, theres no reason to extend him and throw good money after bad. Save the loot. The time has come. The writing is on the wall. Besides theres no need to, we got Humpf!!!!

GO PURPLE RAIN...

and its Hard...and its Hard....and its Hard...and its Hard...
Well a Hard Rains gonna fall!

Here’s where you’re wrong though - extending jimmy does save us money...

And you seem to have changed your tune on Humphrey...

The only way we get him is if he gives us a discount because he wants to play for the team he’s always rooted for...
True. I’m just glad we reached out to the Dolphins about a possible trade during the season. Gives me some hope that we make the offense a priority this offseason.

that report seems to indicate that it was before we brought in maclin... either way it suggests we are interested in this year's free agent wr class

Which seems to be getting thinner unfortunately. Allen Robinson is expected to be tagged if they can't reach a multiyear deal.

I'm kind of relieved we didn't do it. Ozzie doesn't plan on making a trade for Landry without any plans to keep him, but I don't think he solves our issues. I'm more interested in a trade for a WR then Landry. Even if it means letting go of Jensen I'm fine with it.

Not a single WR would solve our issues. We need more than one, maybe more than two. Signing Landry and drafting Ridley would be a good start. Also, I can't think of anyone we could trade for who is as young and as talented as Landry.

We need big plays and Landry isn't going to provide a whole lot of that. He's never proven to be that type of player.

I badly want Allen Robinson here. He's everything we need and while yes, he's not going to completely solve our problems, he is a problem solver and would be a game changer. He's everything we need in a WR.
As far as that news goes that the Jaguars are tagging Robinson, I'm calling bogus since it was a prediction from a beat writer rather then an official report. So no one knows if there's a tag. If he does hit the FA market then I would go all in for him even at the cost of Jensen. We couldn't have tried to trade for Landry without knowing well that we're going to have to pay him top dollar, so if we were to pay anyone I'd rather have it be Robinson. He's easily my #1.

If that doesn't work it, and good chance it doesn't then I'd rather search team-to-team and see who's willing to give up a receiver in that nature. I would even take Dez and DeMaryius over him.
