2018 Free Agency

He's had his injury issues since becoming a Bear. If he would be willing to take a reasonable contract, I'd welcome him back as well.

ZDS has always operated in the shadow of mcphee - would be interesting to see who'd get the higher snap count and whether mcphee would be used off the edge like with the bears or whether we'd line him up over the centre like we did when we had suggs and doom on the edges

Yes it would be interesting, but we need more pressure over the Center, so I’d assume that or may a combo

if we genuinely brought in mcphee i would not be surprised if we had a special package we used maybe only a few times in the year with no dlineman on the field and just straight up have 5 linebackers in the dime package... 2 coming off the edge and then 3+a dimebacker around the line of scrimmage who could all drop or rush

There must be a Raven that Returned in our history somewhere, but I can't pinpoint one.
I'd be all for McPhee and Torrey Smith coming back. The latter because JoeJoe has a very high "rapport" quotient, but I don't think it will happen.
It won't happen because at this point its clear Ozze and Harball have a very high Self Conscience quotient. Bringing a guy back is close to an acknowledgement he shouldn't have been sent away. That's not something sensitive Oz and Harball are going to voluntarily wear when it's clear how insecure they really are.

it isnt when money is the reason they left...
it isnt when theyve done very little relative to their contracts on their trips away from baltimore...
it isnt when they come back for a lot less than they left...

Real question is whether they have a trade lined up or whether they have a strong reason to believe someone will trade for him. They have far bigger needs, like almost everything, than would justify $16M for Landry.

i doubt they franchise with the express idea of trading him but it could be an option
would be weird to franchise him solely for that reason unless they know there are teams that will happily pay that price

it's also weird given the dolphins have less free cap space than the ravens

True and they may feel like they are close to getting a deal done with Landry. A team may still be looking to trade for Landry but I don't think that's highly possible.

they'd be paying an enormous premium for a player who's not worth top 5 wr money... - either way this is gonna kill their cap space (whatever they have lest) - i really wonder if this means tannehill is out and the dolphins are going after a rookie qb

I have seen some mentions about Ryan Tannehill possibility being let go by The Dolphins. I have even seen some mention of Ndamukong Suh being let go as well. Both players would give The Dolphins over 30 million in cap space if released. I guess would make sense for them to let go over Tannehill if they think a guy like Sam Bradford could be just as good but alot cheaper.

Now we’re going to sign a bum WR and call it a day. Lovely.

"Something to keep in mind: When a team tags a player on the first day that it’s an option, with two weeks to take that action, it isn’t a sign that a long-term contract is close to happening. Quite honestly, it is instead a sign of the opposite."

suggests to me the dolphins are gonna have to eat the 16 mill cap hit in 1 year which means they are gonna have to make some serious cuts - they could cut suh but that would seem like a very backwards move (cutting a dominant player to keep a good one...) so i have to think tannehill is maybe the guy who's gone here...

Dolphins have invested a ton in WR lately, and not many wins to show for it. Maybe they're willing to trade Devante Parker, especially if Landry gets a long term deal. He's going into his contract year and has struggled with injuries (and performance), but that's why he could come very cheap and he might be more talented than any WR on the team when healthy. Just a thought, not many appealing options out there currently.

It’s gonna drive up the cost of WRs with a high roof like Paul Richardson and Marqise Lee. And those receivers will go for $8-9million per year which is more than Ozzie Decosta and Harball likes to pay for high roof players. Which leaves the ravens with a rookie addition and 30+ yr old cap cuts with diminishing skills. Then the fans will believe the declining cap cut has more in the tank than every team in the nfl believes. When no team wants him even at $5 million per year ravens fans will argue he isn’t declining like every team that is uninterested in him believes. And buy all the hype of the second round rookie in training camp.

A trade can't happen unless he signs the Tag, so the quick Tag could mean they want him to sign it ASAP. That way with the combine coming up next week(I think), with all the teams there they can see who is interested and try to get a trade deal set prior to FA. Also that would give the team who is making the trade time to work out a long term deal with Landry. I just hope the Browns aren't the team to trade for him.
