2018 Free Agency

i totally agree! He played well for phillips but i dnt think neither were ever a top S. speaking of wade phillips, how you think he gonna do over there with peters and talib now lol?
He was one of the top safeties with Denver though, maybe his talent level isn't top tier but his performance was. And I think the rams should be a top 3 SB frontrunner at this point
He was liability for the cards also. I did not like that pick up of jefferson at all
Objectively false

Pats, eagles, rams. Pats will always be front runners, reigning champs will always be behind them unless they get totally dismantled, and then after the 2 default front runners id give it to the rams, with the Vikings, falcons, and saints all vying for the next spot

Where would the Jags fall on your list? I know they still have Bortles as QB, but that defense is scary.

Right behind them, but the simple fact is that they gotta go through the patriots to get there, and brady has shown time and time again that when the chips are down he can pick apart any defense no matter how good, sometimes he gets caught on a bad day(vs us and Denver 2012 and 2013) or timing just isn't in their favor for a play or 2(strip sack vs philly), but discounting luck and a good bounce, I won't put my money on the jags vs the pats.

Ugh I know, and to throw salt in the wound someone here posted that Arizona is gonna let Matthieu walk, sigh... haven't seen an official source but yeah...

Jefferson has to be better than what he showed last year though, pees is a safety killer. Ed Reed and Eric weddle are the only safeties who looked even slightly competent in his system, one is the GOAT safety and the other is one of the top 5 of his generation, if that's what yoa need at safety to not look like a moron then your scheme may be the problem. Darian Stewart went on to be one of the best safeties in the NFL, Kendrick Lewis had a solid career before coming here; Jefferson was one of the best in the league in arizona, yet they all looked like absolutel liabilities in pees system.

Dude while Peas can put them outa position to get to a play or have to take a bad angle. It’s not Peas fault he lines up on and is beaten in coverage by a fullback. lol It’s not Peas fault he gets juked and falls off tackles. It’s not Peas fault he is so slow trying to get in on a play. It was a terrible signing!! Blame piss poor management for signing him. Like Harball showing anger for nobody stepping up to be consistent playmakers. Be angry at himself and his bosses for picking players that don’t have the skills to be playmakers. You wanna know what Jefferson’s problem is?? In Arizona he was surrounded by and fed off great players that were playmakers that made his assignments basic. The ravens signed him to be the great player and playmaker his teammates can feed off of. And He isn’t that dude sorry. He got lucky and made like 4 plays in coverage and ravens management thought he could do it on a consistent basis.lol The ravens signed him to be somebody he can’t remotely!!

No argument there, although if you put the Jags against some of those NFC teams then I think they would come out on top. I'd probably rank them above the Falcons and Saints TBH because I feel like they could handle both of them.

Surrounded by great players huh? Yeah Matthieu and pat Pete is considered "surrounded by" great players, I guess if I have $200 I'm surrounded by benjamins. I wasn't big on the Jefferson signing myself but pees has a fucking track record a mile long that you continue to deny, Jefferson made more than a few plays with Arizona, he was excellent, nothing short of it.

I think they would too, unfortunately they won't be seeing them in the super bowl unless a few balls/calls go their way vs the patriots.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Byard this year after his breakout last year.

you mean like how a few went the patriots way? I have jags in front of pats. In afc right now i got steelers, jags and chargers( lol) nfc saints and vikings... eagles lost their OC so im kind of doubting them. now come week 1, if eagles offense still look spectaular.. well its a no brainer

It certainly will be, not that I think pees new system is gonna ruin him, just wonder what his IQ is because that seems to be the issue, pees can scheme up mad turnovers with real brainy safeties and liabilities out of any safety who can't diagnose every little cerebral detail. If byard takes a step back then I think he probably isn't eric weddles level of smart, if he is as smart as a guy like weddle then he probably takes a big step forward. That is of course until pees schemes him to show weak side blitz presnap and drop into a deep strong side zone with no press at the line to hamper downfield progress, at which point byard will be just as fucked as weddle was lol

Well if a call goes the patriots way then it isn't going the jags way... so if those PIs didn't happen then the calls are going the jags way in which case they probably win the game... which proves my point, a few balls and calls gotta go your way to beat the pats.

And you don't have the patriots in your top 3 afc contenders? That's just unwise.

This is why I'm glad Pees is finally gone lol

He had his moments and called some great games, but then he would also pull shit like that. Sometimes, less is more and I'm hoping we see improvements when our defense doesn't have to overthink things. Just put guys in the proper spots to succeed and let them make plays; if they don't make plays then bench them and find someone who will.

Your gonna have some explaining to do WHEN the ravens defense takes a step back post Dean Peas then theTitans defense takes that next step. If the opposite happens then it is justified. But the defense is not stepping up post Dean Peas unless some cornerstones are added. Which isn’t likely to happen in a year the offense has to be the focus.

The defense in Arizona fronted Peterson Branch, Buchannon, Dockett, Tyrann, Golden, Campbell, Chandler Jones, linebackers that cover and whomever I’m missing. Rush was leaps and bounds better than the ravens. Jefferson made his tackles with basic assignments. The plays he made in coverage. His assignment probably was very limited in what he could do cuzJefferdon could of received a lot of help. Tony Jabronison sucks compared to what he is being paid for.

this will have come from matthieu himself - he was on nfl network with gregg rosenthaal (around the nfl guy) and they talked about upcoming contract negotiations and he outright said they asked him to take a paycut and it was too much and he wont be signing that contract

the only logical conclusion then is that he's gonna be cut - the cardinals have been bigging up budda baker all offseason so far too to get ahead of the idea that matthieu's leaving

nothing is more painful than seeing Jefferson take up 10 mil in cap space this year. If you watch the second Steelers ravens, I’ve never seen a player get exposed in every way (besides rashad Melvin be pats) bell tricked him for a td, juked him for a td, and he got mossed by a fucking full back for nix’s only careeer td

to be fair jefferson's deal is structured incredibly well and only had 19 mill guarantees at signing - if we wanted we could get out of his contract next offseason and have 5 mill cap savings...

also his cap space is only 9 mill this year not 10 - when his cap hits become 10 mill (or more) he becomes cuttable
