2018 Free Agency

It’ll be a nice mesh to be going into the draft - but I’d still want at least one receiver in the first 3 rounds somewhere
I'll willingly accept waiting until the fourth round for a WR if we get one of the top TEs (preferably Gesicki or Thomas), and grab either Ishmael or Fountain in the 4th.

I don't know if that offsets Browns contract. I think we still need Howard to sign elsewhere.

It will. The amounts don't have to be exact. The beginning of the formula is simply the number of FAs signed vs. the number of FAs lost. Salary doesn't factor in unless it's a signing under the threshold, which will not be the case with a $2.5M number.

Edit: Probably shouldn't say it doesn't factor, but $2.5M vs. $5M is negligible in comp pick terms, at least as it currently stands.

it only matters if we were expecting to get a comp pick for mike wallace... the 5m for john brown gets nowhere near close to cancelling out ryan jensen so unless we bring in more free agents and none of our other free agents find jobs then we are pretty much guaranteed jensen's comp pick at this point (it could be a 3rd but i think its likely a 4th)

2.5M for Wallace?? Damn dude I guess we didn’t want him back at all...that’s literally nothing

Seriously I didn’t care to bring Wallace back but for only 2.5? Come on that should be a no brainer.

Yep this is what I was trying to say but it didn't come out clear and I wanted to get the edit in before a potential reply came back lol. When there are multiple contracts signed, they try to match salaries as close as possible. The gap between Brown and Wallace is half of the gap between Brown and Jensen. If it's an even swap, that's when you can see something like a $2M salary cancelling out an $8M salary, just by sheer number of signed players.

I would have brought him back for that amount, but Ozzie was apparently very serious when he said he wanted to change the faces in the WR room. I can't really blame him. That position needed a serious reset.

Adam Schefter reporting:

"Another blockbuster trade: Giants trading DE Jason Pierre-Paul and a 2018 fourth-round pick to Buccaneers for a 2018 third-round pick and a fourth-round pick, source tells ESPN."

Giants are switching to a 3-4 defense and JPP doesn't fit the new defensive scheme. That tells me they are all in on Chubb at 2 to replace JPP.
