The 2021 Offseason Thread

I am also laughing at how many people think Shaun Wade is a superstar. Did no one watch last year's tape?

or tbh the year before - he was good but not great the year before also... got the hype of being the next guy up after all the ohio state high picks the years prior

Just an interesting thought based on the depth chart. Cajuste has been injured the last 2 years but apparently been playing well this year. Cunningham has been the 2nd team RT. Herron has been the swing T but may be falling out of favor with Cajuste stepping up. They just drafted another in Sherman. And that's all behind Wynn and Brown.

And yes I've learned all of this on Twitter in the last 15 minutes.

i guess it probably helps them that they had onwenu at RT last year too as a rookie - he's back at guard this year (his more natural position) but they've got that comfort level there too

i must say though that i dont remember anything about cajuste from that draft process (cant find any notes on him just a 5th round grade on my board)

I'll take it

no conditions on any of these? because if so then this is absolutely fine lol
honestly wouldnt have even needed that conditional 7th - i hate 7th round picks lol but i suppose next year's draft class is likely to be massive because of all the extra returners and seniors there'll be because of the covid situation

Seems like a win all the way around. Yeah we now have to wait 2 years for a 5th round pick essentially but with how shitty this year's draft class was, you'd be hard pressed to believe you aren't going to have a chance at a better player in 2 years. Plus a throw-in 7th? I'll take this all day for a guy that wasn't going to make the team anyways.

so a lot of what we were thinking about - just confirms though that we've got all these other guys higher on the depth chart and suggests wade was never gonna make it

panthers just traded for a kicker - wouldve thought they might be in play for verity given they got to see him firsthand
idk what they do. 1st they had Butker but then decided ro sign Gano to a big deal (in term of kickers). now they released him to trade for a another K.

On another note: didn't Wade score a high PFF grade? From what I've seen during the game and read afterwards, he didn't seem to do that well though...

Yeah Wade had a high grade but he's only played 35 snaps, and only 9 in game 2. Not much coming his direction so the grade is obviously heavily skewed.

not many snaps - was specifically a high grade in single man coverage (or something like that) - and wade had a pick in preseason game 1 - low snap counts mean that a pick and no major mistakes even against 3rd stringers gives you a great grade - pff grades are contextless and dont account for the level of play of the opponent

Overall do you think it was smart to trade Wade out of all the CBs we have? Averett's contract is up in one year, we don't know how much Tavon has left in his tank after these injuries, Westry is as unproven as Wade and the other young guys play S/CB hybrid roles.

i just think the other guys were better and it seems like the ravens feel like he was furthest behind

wade probably a confluence of a couple of things - highest value in a trade of all the young depth CBs we have + lowest on the depth chart

I have a strong feeling that if Wade had given the Ravens even the smallest indication that he was worth keeping over Westry/Washington or someone like that, then he would have been. EDC does a good job of thinking about things in terms of contract value and length, so I'm sure that they would have kept him around if he was going to be a strong part of the team. I feel like they generally bend over backwards to keep players they draft, sometimes to a fault.
