2022 General Draft Thoughts

I keep seeing KT fall to Atlanta. Would y’all trade up to 8 if KT fell that far?

trade charts say you give up a 2nd rounder or a little less... but recent draft history says you give up more - sometimes a lot more

miami gave up a future 1st and swapped a 4th for a 5th to go up 6 spots from 12 to 6 in 2021
bills gave up 2 2nd rounders for a 7th to go up 5 spots from 12 to 7 in 2018
cardinals gave up a 3rd and a 5th to go up 5 spots from 15 to 10 in 2018
titans gave up a 3rd and a future 2nd for a 6th to go up 7 spots from 15 to 8 in 2016
rams gave up a 2nd, a 3rd and a 7th to go up 8 spots from 16 to 8 in 2013

that's probably a baseline of a 2nd and a 3rd probably to go get him and im not sure i could personally do that

a trade up scenario is probably aided generally by how weak the class is vs other classes - then again if it's thibodeaux who's fallilng then there's more likely to be a premium on him because he's potentially that kind of prospect (despite the reservations of some)

also worth pointing out that i don't think the ravens have traded up in R1 at least since 2008 for any player that wasn't a QB - only trade-ups i can think of were in 2008 for flacco and 2018 for lamar - and both are not conventional trade ups in the sense we're thinking of either... we traded down before we traded back up to get flacco so actually netted extra picks and lamar we traded back in with our 2nd round pick after already taking hurst ahead of him

only other time in recent memory ive heard of the ravens even attempting to trade up was in 2016 when they apparently wanted to trade with dallas to get ahead of the jags for jalen ramsey but didnt want to give up a 3 to do it

i think that's important context for whether the ravens would even think about it - if they wouldnt give up a 3 for ramsey i find it hard to believe they'd give up even more than that for thibodeaux

I think the funny thing about this is that Jerry Jones came out and said straight up that he would have taken less but he was worried we actually wanted Zeke. For their sake, thank god they've started checking Jerry Jones more on his crazy wants and ideas.

lol as if the ravens would trade up in the 1st round for a RB lol

As alluded to above, guys don't typically rise and fall to that extreme. Teams already know about these guys. There's a lot of groupthink amongst the media and ultimately, the fans. The media doesn't watch nearly as much tape as they portray. That's why when a guy like DJ who does watch the tape comes out and says these things, you listen.
I mean im sure teams already know about them but guys like john ross and dk metcalf was most def helped by their combine performances.. orlando brown combine hurt him also.. shit i remember guys here screaming about orland browm then when he performed badly, everything changed.. i knew nothing about and still talked about how little combine means

matt miller is very hit and miss (mostly miss for me tbh)

DJ's the gold-standard in the current nfl draft media landscape

im passing on ojabo for stingley 100% of the time btw - dont fuck around with needs in round 1, just take the best player and if they happen to fill a need then that's just a bonus

with the way the board fell on DJ's mock, there's no way im taking not taking stingley but if i have to take someone else then sure there's probably 2 guys i like in that spot: david ojabo and charles cross... i'd definitely be thinking hard about andrew booth and devin lloyd though too

think based on that mock the way i'd stack it at 14 would be:
Stingley
Cross
Ojabo
Booth
Lloyd
Linderbaum
Is booth the one who makes all the open field tackles and has good ball skills or is that mcreary?

booth's really physical in the running game - sometimes lunges and misses tackles almost out of over-eagerness but yeah i think it's probably booth you're thinking of

Booth is a monster tackler. Humphrey is the first player that comes to mind with just how tenacious he is when playing downhill. Mccreary is more of a traditional press man island style corner.

Idk what it is but Gardner feels like the most ravens prospect in this class. Seems like a guy we would have far away the top of our board if he’s there at 14, and as weird as this may sound I just feel like I’m watching a ravens defender when I watch him, just how he plays and Carries himself on the field, a lot like when we were watching the likes of Marcus peters, rashod Bateman, cj mosley, and Lamar pre draft, some guys just look like ravens and it’s a totally intangible thing

i love mccreary's tape, i just wish he was a little bit longer or a little bit faster - if he was i'd be comfortable giving him a pretty massive grade too

that's definitely a good way to think about it for sure - he definitely has that marcus peters, CJ Mosley kind of feel to him - and also the kind of guy in a messy draft who might fall to our pick at 14 and just make too much sense

it's normally even more obvious in some mid and later round guys like matt judon in 2016 and orlando brown in 2018 and madubuike in 2020 and daelin hayes in 2021

Oh yeah brown and hayes particularly felt like ravens picks. Madubuike I was surprised we took because he is much more of a 1 gapping 3 tech type of DT which we seemed to avoid like the plague for years.

I love mccrearys tape too, like a lot, he’s another guy that really strikes me as a ravens type of player, I just don’t think we’re gonna be in any position to take him

100% right on mccreary - he's not got the athleticism or length to go high enough to be in our range and his tape's way too good to still be on the board when we get to our R2 pick

Clear as day smokescreen, I don't think for a second the team was in on Elliott, they probably wanted Bosa or Ramsey until they were taken and settled for Stanley, the funny thing is we lucked out with that one. Outside of the injuries that was a huge hit.

idk that there was any smokescreen there at all - ravens never suggested they were going after zeke - everyone and their aunt knew they were going after ramsey if they made that trade (hence why they were trying to get above jacksonville) - i imagine bosa would have been in play too but i dont think they ever expected him to be there

and it would have been whatever they did there (outside of taking elliott)

basically every guy who they reasonably might have picked has gone on to be an all-pro
(Joey Bosa)
Jalen Ramsey
Ronnie Stanley
DeForest Buckner
even Tunsil has gone to multiple pro-bowls (albeit not an all-pro)

No Ronnie or Marlon had we taken Jalen. Be interesting how this team looks without those two

My draft crush this year. Well it’s a tie between him and TL, and it’s cool to think that they both might be available when we’re on the clock

Real strong chance we had marlon at the top of our board in 17 whether we had Ramsey or not

that said, both players healthy, give me stanley over Ramsey all day

I won’t say draft crush because I’m not high on adding a first round corner, I think we’re just picking too high and there’s bound to be closely graded prospects at spots like edge/DL which I just would prefer by a mile.

that said, I’m very high on Gardner, to me he’s a top ten talent and arguably cb1. And some added appeal there is that I think he upgrades 2 spots. If he and peters play the boundary then marlo can take the nickel and a bit of a robber role which frankly he is just best suited for and his skill set is just loaded for the role.

I’d still take jermaine Johnson over him all day, Charles cross and probably ojabo too
