2022 General Draft Thoughts

What are your thoughts on Hamilton?

Everyone seems to agree that he is S1, but after that the consensus gets murky. I've seen him mocked as high as top-5 and as low as the late 20's.

his value is going to be entirely based on how team's value safety - because he doesnt offer much nickel value vs shifty slot guys

there's no question about his talent though - think any fall is going to be entirely related to positional value - he's probably the only player in this class who deserves being in any sort of "blue-chip" type conversation outside of maybe Evan Neal

It feels like there was a big shift in how people viewed this draft. There were a number of guys this board were high on, and then suddenly it was viewed as probably the worst draft since 2013.

I'm not grading to the extent that some are, but from the guys I have looked into so far, it feels like a draft without much differentiation. Usually I can pick out a few guys that will probably go in the later part of the 1st at this point but I feel like all of the guys I have there now could easily slip down to 3rd. And vice versa of course. Everyone is just kind of melding together for me right now. But it's still very early.

I think initially some (including me) were excited about having a bigger class vs the historically small 2021 class

but the more grades I do and more info I see from elsewhere, the less impressed I am with this class at least at the top - it’s highly probable this class has a long tail and lots of legit day 3 talent but so far I’m not impressed with the top talent - not a lot of blue-chip types and not sure there’s that many 1st round types in general

definitely seems like right now this is a draft where teams are going to have quite disparate boards up top which is rare in recent classes - lots of teams are going to see the top 10 very differently to each other which is both favourable and not

Trade the farm (not really..but maybe a 5th)

#cometotheravens.

For a while I was all in on hammering the OL with our draft, but I really believe in the depth of this OT class, i think I’d rather see us double down on the front seven in the first 3 picks, like an ojabo/karlaftis/walker/Davis and then on day 2 adding a winfrey or Mathis or carter, or if you land a travon walker or Jordan Davis take a guy like ebiketie or mafe or drake jackson on day 2.

give me Rasheed walker or andrew steuber in round 3 if they’re available, or a Tyler smith or faalele or jamaree salyer in 3/2 respectively, but in round 2 I’d much rather see us get a great value in the pass rush if it’s there.

classic case of people looking for nitpicks and other teams trying to get him to fall to their pick
I’d go absolutely ape shit. Feels a lot like Joey bosa though, lots of folks had near confirmed reports as late as draft night that stanley was slated to be the third pick to the chargers, and that Joey bosa was falling for character concerns. I don’t see thibodeaux falling, I really can’t see it. He’s gotta go top 4 and he’s 1a to Evan Neal’s 1B in my opinion. He’s just too good. He’ll need to bomb draft interviews to fall, and I’ve heard the dude speak on camera, he doesn’t seem to be the type to bomb interviews

feels like the 5th pick and the giants is the lowest he could possibly "fall" - now way the giants would pass on him at 5 especially given they've got another pick at 7

lots of people seem to be losing their shit about thibodeaux because he dared to think and talk about life after football when he was a high school kid and because of the weird interview about him vs evan neal

I like those guys too, but you’ll be playing with fire. What if we roll the dice and those guys get scooped up before our turn.. it would be such a miss lol.
If any of the top 3 tackles are there at 14.. we can’t pass em up. Penning or whoever Tackle4 is, I’m fine with passing up for a different position

absolutely no way lol
im not drafting scared just because i have a need - im not taking a less good prospect just to make sure i get a tackle

to me, penning's a top 40 type talent but he's gonna go 20 picks higher just because of the positional value and the lack of strength at the top of this draft class

I get that part, im saying if one of those top 3 tackles are on the board along with those other guys joeyflex mention.

For example.. would you pass up cross for ojabo/karlaftis/walker/Davis?

Penning being tackle 3 is a stretch, In fact it’s flat out not the case. He is being overhyped so much right now it’s insane, because he got mad after losing reps and threw guys on the ground, it was pathetic. He almost ended his qbs offseason in practice with that nonsense and he flat out wasn’t very good.

I’m not passing on jermaine Johnson, David ojabo, Jordan Davis, Ahmad Gardner, George karlaftis, travon walker, shit even devin Lloyd, Kenyon green, Andrew booth, and Tyler linderbaum, for Trevor penning at 14.

I’d take ojabo and Davis over cross, not karlaftis or walker though

they've all got roughly the same grade from me - not sure where they'll all stack yet so hard to say for sure

that would be a difficult decision right now although id maybe still lean on the freak athletic guys like walker or ojabo and maybe davis over cross

definitely taking cross over karlaftis but of those guys you mention karlaftis is the only one i know will likely be behind cross on my board

whatever i end up doing in that hypothetical scenario though is that im sticking to my board - regardless of positional value

think I came off wrong or worded my comment poorly. I’m saying penning or whoever else thats tackle #4 is.. would be a easy pass for me for those guys.

but Evan Neal, Ekwonu, or Cross.. it’ll be hard for me to want anyone else if one of those 3 fall to us. Unless a blue chip like Hamilton or Thibodeaux is there.

100%

i havent graded any of the WRs yet and still have a load of the top corners still to do - and yet penning's already outside my top 20

all those guys you've listed i have well ahead of penning as well (except for kenyon green who i need to take another look at at some point)

ekwonu or neal sure
cross is a little tougher for me to take if i love someone else who's there more (just dont think he's ceiling's crazy high)... but he'd certainly be in play for sure if he fell to 14

Gotcha. I don’t think any of those top 3 will fall to us though, and that makes OT really hard for me to think about in round 1.
