2022 General Draft Thoughts

The "big" concern regarding Davis is his conditioning. He played under 50% of the snaps and was only registering like 20 or so in some games, but that could also be because that DL was so deep and why wouldn't your have Wyatt and Carter in on obvious passing downs. Regardless of that, I can't help but feel there's more to unlock there. He transitions to the NFL so easily. If he can keep his weight down to what it's been in the pre-draft process, I see no reason he shouldn't be a complete pain in the ass to deal with on the field. You're doing a little bit of projecting with Davis but I don't see a major risk by any means.

re: conditioning

he's also trimmed down in the offseason by about 20lbs and that 340lbs playing weight (which is still obviously huge) is probably a much better playing weight for him in the pros and may be the difference between him playing 20 and 40 snaps in a game

Really starting to think the dream scenario is take Jermaine Johnson in RD1 and McCreary in RD2. Not sure how we could get much better than that realistically.

Maybe one slight alternative is to take Stingley/Booth and then Mafe

without a doubt the best first 2 picks is clearly EDGE and CB in some order

i think in your scenario i much prefer the CB then EDGE scenario... as strong as this CB class is, I think the round 2 and day 2 EDGE options are much more prolific than the round 2 and day 2 CB options - and i think the ceiling on some of these round 2 EDGEs is outrageous, they're just more developmental whereas mccreary is what he is (but what he is is really good but maybe not elite)

but both those positions are deep on day 2 - there's no reason not to BPA it in R1 (whatever that position might end up being)

Starting to see more and more pundits/prognosticators/draftniks matching up the Ravens and Devin Lloyd

would not be my first choice... in fact he would, right now, be my 14th choice... but that does put him in the top 14 for me ahead of a lot of really good prospects

I totally agree with this

For what it's worth - I think that a lot of people here are over-analyzing Jordan Davis.

That man is a force of nature, absolute freak. Most of the time people hope we can develop mid/late round guys to competent NFL starters. Why is it so hard to imagine what that could look like with someone as good as Davis?

He will be a nightmare for every offense from day one because one lineman can't hold him. I can't wait to see what will become of him with a bit of coaching and refinement, hopefully in purple jersey.
I watched him and walker the other night vs bama.. walker was bascially non existent.. davis was beast vs run but then when i saw him on bama 2nd td, he got stood up and couldnt even move 1vs1.. if we had pass rushers around davis like how bucs had with vita vea, davis would be nice but we have no one.. i do think he could help our team but he isnt some pass rushing force in the middle at all

Which bama game? Sec championship or the natty?

Unpopular opinion but I’d rather have Lloyd over Davis at our current pick. I just can’t get into Davis and Lloyd gives me a Micah vibe

I like it. I’d be elated with Cross as well

idk that anyone's gonna do a micah in this class - but lloyd's definitely the guy with the closest skillset with regard to his ability to rush off the edge with actual pass rush moves but also fill in the run game from off-ball

i dont think lloyd's got the ability to be a full-time pass rusher like micah was able to be - but he's also more advanced in coverage than micah was/is

replace karlaftis with drake london and we've got the same 14 right now

this is a good decision by london tbh
he probably saw treylon burks run a great time at his size of 4.55 and still have his stock drop
he was probably gonna run in the late 4.5s or something like that (or maybe even 4.6) and watch himself lose out on millions by no longer being a top 10 pick when long-speed just isnt necessary to the game he's put on tape
