2022 General Draft Thoughts

not sure their entire draft would do it tbh - probably have to give up a future 1st rounder + some other picks to get up that high

you know colbert is desperate to go out like ozzie did and leave the franchise in good health with a QB - but 7 is a very specific number lol and this would be quite the way to steal future capital just to go and get any QB just to get one...

but it's possible that in their heads its malik willis or bust at QB - i dont really get the impression that they like pickett or any of the others
so if they know it's willis then maybe they have to just go up and get him
So with his final draft he screws the team by giving away a boatload of picks to get a mediocre QB.......... I love it!

With reports of Stanley being on the mend and able to play this season, I think we are going all-in on defense this draft. My sense is we trade up (given that a lot of teams are willing to trade back at lesser than expected value) to get either Sauce or Thibodeaux. Otherwise, stay put if we can get one of JJ, Stingley, Hamilton or McDuffie. If none of these are available, then we trade back for whatever value we can get. We are in a strange spot this draft.

as dumb as some organisations can be
i think they're all clever enough (especially the bad ones), to realise that they're probably in a rebuild and that next year's class is much better at QB
the texans probably dont think mills is a potential franchise starter but they lose very little by improving the team around him, seeing if they havent found a stud for cheap and if it doesnt work out, put themselves in prime position to take one of the top QBs in a much better QB class in 2023

no way the texans or falcons spend a 1st rounder on a QB, the lions might - but if they do i bet it's at 32, the commanders might but it would be an odd decision to bring in wentz and a rookie

the overall sentiment around the league is that this QB class sucks... obviously it only takes one team to convince themselves for one to go but it just seems unlikely
I could see the Commanders pick a QB at 11 and play him in his rookie year so the Wentz trade doesn't turn into a 2023 2nd round pick and stays a 3rd. I'm not sure they go that route, but it could happen. I also think Hamilton fits them to a t.

I tell you... if we were picking in the 20s, I'd be banging the table for Zion Johnson with the idea of moving him to C. Came across a cut up on Twitter again today and good lord that guy feels as safe as it gets.
Zion Johnson is going to be the surprise top 10 pick and I'm betting on it.

eh?
pff charting is really dependable - pff grading sucks but their charting is pretty great

and booth is 100% a R1 prospect and has been thought of that way for most of the process

mcduffie plays a lot of zone but idk why that makes him look like a zone corner... i mean he is very good in zone but he's very good in man too just played fewer snaps in man than zone because of the scheme
Im saying the guy is mad about the snap count being similar so he wants people to call booth a zone cb just as they do mcduffie when its more than just the snap count for the reasoning…Slay plays good in man also but we all know he is at his best in zone so a lotta people call him a zone cb, well atleast cowboys fans do lol.

Not surprising. Been seeing a lot of teams that have 20 or less.

Doesn't that seem like just so few given that this is kinda sorta supposed to be a draft and half because of talent getting pushed to this year from Covid? What's that number on average any given year?

Oh it’s low but it’s more of a reflection of the top end talent vs. the overall depth. Teams might be low on round 1 talent but I’d bet the round 2-4 boards are stacked heavy.

Is this 2013 all over again? I keep hearing its a deep draft with minimal top tier talent..... or are we just saying that as a cover that this class is just average across the board. Very similar QB comparisons as well with the top guys in that draft ( EJ Manuel, Geno Stone, Matt Barkley) all considered weak prospects and ultimately becoming bust.

A lot of players skipped the season and declared last year as well. The ones that returned are mostly fringe guys who attempted to boost their stock with a proper football season, which is why the class is so deep

Lots of buzz today about Stingley at 3 and Johnson at 4. Walker and Hutchinson at 1 and 2.

Would leave Ekwonu, Neal, Gardner, Hamilton, and Thibodeaux as your potential "fallers" even though I'd still expect them to follow in short order. But if it plays out like this, it gives you an idea of who the trade up potential guys are because there's bound to be at least one shocker in the top 10.

Stingley over Sauce?

Stingley over Sauce?
Sounds like the Texans have done a ton of homework on Stingley. Question with him has never been talent - he's superior to Sauce in just about every category. Questions with Stingley have been the foot injury recovery and him not being all there mentally (on the field) since 2019. Easy things to course correct when you get inside of a building.

Sure, makes sense. I bet not every team feels that way, but I am sure some do. I think its a guarantee Stingely and Sauce are both gone by 7.
