‘Wink’ is the New Defensive Coordinator

I can’t lie, I am really disappointed because I really wanted Pagano to agree to come back, but I don’t know too much about Wink so I have to give him a chance.

Who is actually panicking?
All I see is people stating their lost trust in what Harbaugh's regime is doing since the last SB win. This has nothing to do with Wink or Pagano or Fangio or Pees but it has everything to do with the HC running the same shit that doesn't produce acceptable results.
Maybe panic is the wrong word but there's a lot of people clearly unhappy about this for no good reason.

If Wink doesn't get too cute at the end of games, and doesn't try to square pegs into round holes then maybe he'll be an improvement over Pees.

When the news first broke, I kind of face palmed a bit and once again thought Harbaugh was being too conservative by going with the in house candidate, but then I started rationally thinking about it, and I’m willing to at least give him his fair shot. He was on this team when confetti was falling in NOLA, and he was also on this team for the “immaculate extension” on Christmas night and the “4th and 12” that haunted the Ravens this season. He’s seen The highest of highs.... and lowest of lows. Chuck Pagano was the fan favorite pick (me included), But just as it was kind of a blessing that, while not being fired, Greg Mattison taking his talents(or lack of) to Michigan, opening up the door for a then unknown in house commodity in Chuck Pagano. Martindale is in a similar position with Pees. Ultimately, for better or worse, John Harbaugh’s tenure in Baltimore will live and die by these decisions, and I hope, for our sake, that they pan out.

Well I'll say this. The fact that it's been announced TODAY tells me that at least they were looking at other candidates. Now did we really have a shot at Fangio? From many accounts, it's either he was gonna remain a Bear or join the Packers. Correct if I'm wrong, but I don't think I ever saw an article or tweet potentially linking him to us other from wishful thinking. As for Pags, now there were reports of us being interested in him, but was he ever interested in being a DC again? Or even coaching for that matter?

The "good" thing about this is that the players swear by this guy so we'll see if this can translate to positive results. Now many people look at his stint with the Broncos several years ago. I don't blame anyone for not being happy with this hire after seeing his results with DEN. Sometimes (that's the keyword folks), the past doesn't accurately tell the future. A few years ago, we hired a guy who used to be the HC of the Bears and made Cutler and that offense look like a million dollars. Need I say anymore about that bum's time with us as the playcaller?

At least we had his daughters for eye candy while we were losing. Glass half full...

I'm not pissed off by the decision but I am disappointed. I wanted Pags here to hopefully run his one gap scheme or at least run more of it. However, I'm holding out hope that Wink brings a little more "Organized Chaos", swagger and attitude back to the the Ravens defense. I've heard of his connection to the Ryan brothers and his failed attempt as Denver's DC but does anyone have any information on what scheme or tendencies he prefers?

Hopefully he's a new school guy who has fresh ideas. We need new blood. We can no longer live on the glory of our past.

Most of his experience is under Rob Ryan and Dean Pees with a year of Mike Nolan in there. He didn't have great success in his 2010 as DC in Denver (it ranked 32nd in both yards and points). After he left the Broncos got Von Miller and rose to being ranked 20th and 24th in points and yards respectively. I haven't dug into any 2010 broncos defensive tape or anything, but the poor ranking likely means there are not an abundance of positive takeaways. If someone smarter than me could dig into that tape and relay some takeaways I'd be excited to read them.

Ultimately, i think you do have to hope that Martindale has learned a few things over his career and that he can take advantage of the young talent on the defense. Coaches/Coordinators rise and fall pretty quickly in the NFL and a lot who failed one place succeed in others.

it will be another bama player. let me go on the record now that i am not a calvin ridley fan and if it's him i will be very dissapointed.
