The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Week 14 Edition

What pisses me off now that I remember it is that we only needed 2 first downs or 7 plays to win and we ran the ball once for 6 yards and that was it
 
For whatever reason, the one play that sticks in my mind is Bells' TD wherein Tim Williams was bulldozed by Chris Hubbard at least 5 yards off the LOS. That was the difference between containing the edge on a 2-4 yard gain and a long run.
 
I can't even get mad at the offense today. I understand they turned it over opening drive and yes, I get that but they punted it three times the whole day. Three times. They got 38 points today purely from their offense with no turnovers from the defense. You just can't ask for anything else. I understand we got conservative on those two drives but when you continue to run up the score and it's still close like that, you just run out of things to do as an OC.

Same here. I'm disappointed with the closing drives, and they're the freshest memory that we have, so I understand the negative feelings. But they shouldn't share the same amount of blame as the defense in my eyes. If you tell me that we had a 120 yard rusher on a healthy average, scored 3 times on the ground and twice through the air with 1 turnover, I would assume we'd won regardless of the opponent. Meanwhile, little pressure, a 500 yard passer, no turnovers. I would assume we'd lost in every contest under those circumstances.

The game plan completely changed and everyone including the Steelers could see the predictable, conservative shit coming. I just don’t get it, even a dog learns from its mistakes.

Those drives were rather disappointing but how often in the NFL do you see a team score on every single drive? Punting it three times the whole day? That's great performance for any offense out there. They scored a TD with 6 mins to remaining to make it a 2 score game and this defense lets Pittsburgh drive the length of the field in a simple 3 minutes. Their defense did them no favors by getting a turnover which makes their performance even more maddening. At that point in the game, you showed the Steelers every look on offense, not a lot of players are going to make the same mistakes over and over again. Your play-book begins to shrink at that point.

Chris Hubbard got the best of Suggs today as well.
 
The play of the day to me was the big gain by AB on the catch and run. Mosley and I believe Bowser(?) were lined up on the edge, Ben did a great hard count that Mosley bit on, showed an obvious blitz and Big Ben made a tremendous read. I'm not going to lie, Big Ben made a lot of those plays and it made a big difference.

We're basically on the same page. The issue that I had was more so with the play-calling on the two drives prior to the last one. Three very conservative calls prior to the punt were then followed with a pass on first despite the running game being as effective as it was, then a run, and then an RPO where the first option was immediately snuffed out. I would've rather saw us commit to the run on the first two plays and then find try to find the sticks. Again, it feels like it's almost nitpicking considering that the offense almost put up a 40 burger. They're not fully absolved of their inability to persevere in crunch time, but overall, I feel like the last two weeks have been encouraging in that facet moving forward.

If there is one thing that I absolutely LOVE about the Steelers....it is their offensive AGGRESSIVENESS! They don't play conservative at all! They are constantly attacking on offense even when they are up to put pressure on defenses. They're philosophy seems to be...."We're coming to outscore you today....see if you can keep up!"

When you play like that week after week after week, your offense can't help but develop confidence. Sure, it doesn't always end that way for them but they have that mindset and it clearly shows in their game play. They also have "DAWGS" on their offense.....Big Ben, Bell, Brown etc., that can make plays all up and down the field seemingly at will.

Much respect to them!
