The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Week 14 Edition

Honestly did y'all not see that coming as soon as they drove down the field for that fg early in the 4th? I saw it then and there, the defense let up and the offense came out for a punt.

it was so familiar youre right - i just hoped that for once we might be able to have nice things...
but alas
we just cant have nice things

I looked at my brother in law with 6 minutes left and said with 100% certainty that the Steelers would win off a field goal in the closing seconds. It was pretty obvious that’s how the game was gonna go.

I said it in the game thread after they cut our lead to 8 i think and we done that empty back set screen pass to boyle. Called it harball. We punted they scored. We punted again. They scored.

We went conservative on offense.

it's almost like the football gods decreed it would be so 4-5 weeks ago and forgot that football games arent multi-week affairs

tavon young is - he played well against the steelers receivers last year including antonio brown (playing in that same outside corner role that brandon carr was in and got beaten in)
and brent urban reduces the snap counts of other dlinemen so they arent gassed on the final drive

tavon young would not have made a difference in this game. Urban is just another average D linesman who can bat a few balls.
we need an extra bit of quality that for some reason, this fO is allergic to drafting. Solid/good players isn't going to get it done

what i dont get is carr was getting beaten up and down all day and we never even considered moving canady to LCB and bringing jaylen hill into the slot (even if just to give carr a breather if not to actually bench him)
IDK.....Same questions could have been asked when Hopkins beat Smith like a drum a couple of weeks ago. Is Hopkins better than AB? I hate to keep repeating this but a pass rush would have cured a lot of ills in both games.

and yet after that first conservative drive the next one we drove down and scored a td and took time off the clock and i thought maybe this would be the time to change everything but then the defence gave up chunk plays and only took 3 minutes off the clock and then the offence went overly conservative again

a pass rush would definitely have changed things but the situations were slightly different - hopkins beat smith on occasion but not for a td and not for huge gainers over and over again - and stylistically they're different receivers

True, but Tom Savage ain’t Ben R. either.

The most incredibly obvious thing one could say is that the Steelers have better players. It also happens to have the merit of being true.
They have drafted better to their scheme
They have better developed their player acquisitions.

Apparently Alex Collins forced 10 missed tackles with 95 of 120 yards after contact. Lort. Guy's a machine.
He's been impressive, alright.
Then Marty decides we'll throw a pass, not over the scrimmage line, to give Steelers a better shot at winning.

i'd like to point out that our FO showed 0 interest in TJ Watt and Carl Lawson
To be fair, Watt was a 1st rounder. Humphrey played well for us so there's some give and take. Plus Watt has slowed in recent weeks coming into tonight where he had his turnaround. Somewhat fair point on Lawson. However, to that point, we had already drafted two LBs in the 2nd and 3rd, so it may have felt redundant.
