The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Raiders Week 1 Edition

I really hope he keeps it up and is in contention for RDPOY

well he's gonna get a chance against Orlando next week - orlando really struggled with speed last week - obviously oweh isn't myles garrett but he's a similar (or better) athlete

tbf Darren Waller was productive but also had a bajillion drops last night and looked spooked at times
That’s the scary part is the chiefs aren’t going to drop those.. if we opened up against them mahomes would have probably passed for 600 yards last night no exaggeration. Rare but regardless disappointing to not see wink stop blitzing

Good for him. I was happy to see him get his first career sack. I’m sure it’s a weight off his shoulders after all the no sacks in college talk

What I don’t get is why we didn’t use Lamar at all really in the running game until very late - feels like we could have gone to that earlier in the game when we had the lead
Yea- might have miscounted but I only recall one maybe two designed. So funny people say Lamar takes too many hits but then suck off josh Allen. That dude was getting smacked running vs pitt

Well that's also a one game sample. Lamar runs it about 50-60 times a year more than Allen normally does, so that's why most fans are more comfortable with Allen as a runner instead of Lamar in terms of durability concerns.

The same as Godwin. Which is precisely why it doesn't matter to me, nor is it realistic for it to matter to somebody else.

You must be super fun to hang out with. I bet everyone around you just loves it when you talk down to them with your superior intelligence!

If it doesn't matter to you then why the fuck did you comment? I wasn't even talking to you to begin with so mind your business.

I wasn’t a fan of the play calling. Our entire offense is “Lamar do something”

I don’t like that Bc he will fumble and it was clear to me that as the game kept going he was shouldering the load

Because I can. Welcome to a public message board, where there ain't no such thing as "minding your own business". Your putting your business out there for the world to see.
If you're not OK with that, I'm sure you can find a way to pontificate privately with one of your fellow board members. I'll stay here in 2021.

Cool

It was, ironically, the Russell Wilson offense, except he excels much better at it.

The offensive play calling I halfway expected. Looked very vanilla with so many unfamiliar players up front and losing the whole RB room essentially. The defensive play calling makes zero sense, though.

Rough loss, but probably deserved the way the 2nd half developed.
Most of the dead horses have already been thoroughly beaten already (e.g. the OTs), so I'm leaving that. Feels like things were looking pretty well until Ty'Son left and the team had no backs that knew the system and were forced to pass more than they should. On defense, the ILBs seem to be as weak in coverage as expected and Harrison didn't look good at all IMO.

Now, I only looked at the game once and didn't bother going back to to check, but didn't the second-to-last Raiders pass of the 4th quarter have all the signs of an offensive holding (the first of the two passes to Edwards), or was I just wishing for one at that point?

One random thought is that the talking heads constantly praised the Raiders punter when he out-kicked the coverage team by miles and gave room for Duvernay to accelerate and get good returns. Length isn't everything, even in punting... <pun intended>

I'm actually pretty excited about Westry now, despite hoping he'd be cut in favor of Warrior like a week ago.
I’ve been on the Westry bandwagon since camp lol. You can’t teach 6’4” for a Corner. He couldn’t have defended that ball to Edwards any better. I’m extremely confident in our DB group.

What baffles me a ton is how and why we didnt help al out. I know he was ass but so many other teams have fielded way worse lines than we did last night (the steelers every game...).
The d ends would go straight upfield with no need to contain. Run a fucking draw play, run a screen, put people to chip for Al, get quick slants going. the hell was that about.
Roman thought yea we should just leave al 1 on 1 on 3rd and 7 in an obvious passing down? what the actual fuck is that about.
