The 2022 Offseason Thread

"Rookie cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis left practice early and walked slowly of the field while being assisted by a member of the medical staff. Harbaugh said Armour-Davis hit his head after taking a fall and needed to be examined."

Do we think this team can win a superbowl? I think it's pretty safe to say we'll make the playoffs, but just think about it. With as strong as the AFC is right now, the first round of the playoffs could be against KC, Buffalo, LA, Cincy, Denver, or Tennessee. I wouldn't say there was a single team in that group that you could be sure you'd beat.

Then in a lower but still very real tier, you could have Vegas, NE, Miami, Indy, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. All of these teams, I think you'd feel good about playing but I don't really expect any of these teams will be playing in the post seaaon.

It's just crazy, the only teams in the AFC you can truly count out are the Jets, Jaguars, and Texans.
I think it's possible, but it's going to take some of the rookies and second year guys going off in the late season/playoff time, and hitting their full potential.

"Rookie offensive tackle Daniel Faalele is dealing with swelling, which is why he exited yesterday’s practice."

This sounds like good news I'd think???

"You’d prefer seeing a roster hopeful build on a standout preseason game with strong practices, but it’s been an underwhelming week for Shemar Bridges. Though several rookie receivers have flashed at various times this summer, I’m not sure any have built an overly convincing case beyond the Ravens needing bodies."

UDFA check in:

QB Anthony Brown - he still needs a mechanical overhaul but looked good in preseason game 1. Looks like a project to add to the PS.

WR Shemar Bridges - has shown the most in the game so far at the position but still not convinced. You can see the potential but you can also see why he comes from Fort Valley State. Very interested to see how he acquits himself in the final 2 games. Game 1 looked good but still looks more PS type right now.

WR Makai Polk - came out of nowhere to have a solid game 1 in the PS. Would honestly probably have him above Bridges right now but still needs to do a lot more to make it.

WR Slade Bolden - injury held him out of game 1 but looks to be on the outside regardless. Just doesn't offer enough right now.

WR Raleigh Webb - clearly down the pecking order but showed some nice things in game 1. He's battling for a PS spot. He did have a lot of ST exposure which could be good for him to stick around for a bit.

DL Rayshad Nichols - no idea where he came from but showed out well in game 1. Like all of the others so far, battling for a PS spot. He's at a deep position and would imagine they'd lean Mack or Crawford if they pass through waivers.

LB Jeremiah Moon - has a golden opportunity to make it with Biegel going down but it seems Means is above him. Had some good moments in game 1 and needs to keep building on it, but looks PS.

LB Chuck Wiley - the fact that he was already cut says a lot. He's back only as a body but should find himself back on the market soon.

LB Josh Ross - the most likely of the UDFAs to stick right now. Came in the game late so it's not necessarily defensive value, but he was very active on ST. Still think he's on the outside looking in but has a good chance to be on the 53 at some point.

LB Zakoby McClain - unimpressive in week 1. Looks to be behind Ross in the pecking order but could still hang around on the PS.

LB Diego Fagot - also unimpressive and seems to be the last of the ILB options right now.

CB David Vereen - reports that he's put up a really good camp. Numbers game is likely going to keep him off but looks like a good PS candidate.

Not too much to speak of on the UDFA front honestly. Most look like PS guys which is fine. One making the 53 hinges on (a) one of the WRs really stepping up in the last 2 games or (b) Ross standing out on ST.

Also very curious what we do at WR if we don't bring in anyone from the outside. Wallace is hurt and has been disappointing by most reports, so you really only have a top 3. But no one has stood out with their opportunity.

Moore has reportedly had the best camp but doesn't really offer anything we don't already have.

Victor has been up and down but has a size component and probably more natural ability than Bridges.

Then you have all of the UDFAs as mentioned above.

It feels like it's a 3 horse race right now for WR5 with Moore, Victor, and Bridges. Polk is sitting on the outside looking to get in the race. If it were up to me I'd probably lean Victor right now but I have 0 confidence in that.

I think Polk is very much in it. In a video the other day Harbs said Polk flashed early on and has kept it up on camp. Then as you said, he had a good game 1 and came in before Bridges. Also Polk's college resume from a production standpoint is great and honestly not unlike Proche or Duvernay in that way. I'd personally say it already is a 4 way race with Bridges being in 4th and Polk in 3rd.

I just want to see Polk get open downfield a little more before I put him firmly in it. He was active in game 1 but it was mostly short stuff with him finding soft spots. Nothing against that by any means but want to see him create separation in a 1 on 1 matchup.
