The 2022 Offseason Thread

There's a reason why the Bills want to interview Tee Martin-he excels at the pass game. The pass game is the future of success in the NFL. I know the Raven's are committed to the run, but its become a necessity to have a pass game-we don't! And we don't have an OC who can design an effective one. I predict Tee Martin will become a HC -I was hoping he'd eventually become ours! Hate to lose the guy.

The Bills are also interviewing Edgar Bennett as well whom also is wide receiver coach but him and Martin are both minorities. Unfortunately these two are probably just being interview due to the Rooney rule because I don't see a reason why The Bills wouldn't want to promote their quarrback coach to offensive coordinator instead. It keeps the same system in place that Josh Allen currently is flourishing in

yes, need to interview two minority candidates.

I like Harbs but my one and only gripe with him is how he’s too loyal to his coordinators, which is a good thing for them. It’s awfully telling how you haven’t heard a peep from anyone being interested in Roman as anything

When has his run game been efficient without a mobile qb? This is an honest question

Never. 49ers and Bills fans were complaining about the same shit we are now as well. But let's give him another year with a healthy roster because it's not like he had one in 2019 then stalled out in the playoffs.

I guess you could say back when Alex Smith was his quarterback but Smith was mobile as well just wasn't used the same way as other quarterbacks Greg Roman has worked with. Honestly it was Greg Roman that basically turned Alex Smith career in the right direction because before then he was looking like total bust or already was considered a bust.

That last part seems VERY familiar. Again, this isn't some I hate Roman rant, but more I think we've gone as far as we can with him. I don't see this offense taking another step with him. I get Lamar is a special talent athletically, but think it's dumb as FUCK to have the run game revolve around his legs. Roman doesn't seem to be doing him any favors in his growth as a passer.

@Sandtown true to an extent but he was "serviceable" as well with Andy Reid. The Niners were a mess until Jim got there.

And out of curiosity what direction did either of those franchises go right after being rid of Roman? When the teams that get rid of you have a habit of going in the wrong direction that is probably a bigger endorsement of your skills as a coach than anything else.

Even Lamar isn't a fan of Roman's offense.

This is easy to answer. Harbaugh left and the Niners let that idiot Baalke keep making important decisions. The Bills were 13 seconds from an AFCCG and basically had only had 1 or 2 bad seasons in between letting him go. Now the Bills have one of the most high-powered offenses.

We're going to waste this year with good pieces and the year after we'll be paying top dollar to a qb that might have a questionable season due to a stale coordinator. Greg Roman is the practice girl of OCs.

Here's the difference tho. Bateman and Duv/Proche > Roberts and Snead. That literally can be the difference right there, not to mention that both Ingram and Andrews were both playing hurt.

Now, IF our offense underwhelms next season and everyone is healthy, yeah it's time for Roman to exit the premises.

I don’t hate Roman I just think he’s hit the end of his time here. I think somewhere like Chicago would be perfect for him

I’m hoping Jim takes him wherever he goes

Lets hope and maybe that's why Jim said he wasn't a lock.
Yea that was an odd way for him to put it. I'm not sure why he didn't just say Roman is "definitely a lock" to be back next season

Um the Bills drafted an entirely new QB and Greg Roman was their offensive coordinator 5 years ago. They outright could not get the job done with the staff that Roman had some success with. The same was true for the 49ers.

If the Saints draft a new QB and that QB ends up being good does that make Sean Payton a bad coach?

The Eagles were awful after Andy Reid left but years later they won their first Super Bowl. I guess Andy Reid is a bad coach now as well despite being considered great by his peers.

he logic here makes no sense. They had a chance to get it done with the same personnel and they could not get the job done because it turns out teams get worse when he leaves.

That's about where I am, if I see a bad offensive season while we're healthy, then by all means fire his ass but atm aside from the odd questionable call here and there all I see is an OC that helped Lamar to MVP and has won a lot more than he's lost.

I'm looking forward to Greg bringing the running game back to full force with Gus and Dobbins, doubly so if we reinforce the OL this offseason.

what about the way the offence has evolved since 2019, or the way the 2021 season played out, or even harbaugh's comments in the presser he just had suggest anything other than the ravens being a wide open passing offence?

if anything this presser only suggested to me more that the ravens are not going to rely on a schemed running attack (harbaugh's most telling comment was that the best offences in the playoffs have been running the ball well but that it's mostly been off the backs of their QBs and mostly off scrambles etc.)

its pretty obvious that he wants this to be a QB-centric offence potentially even moreso than it already is - and combine that with his comments about reducing lamar's designed running load and i think the picture you're left with is of a dynamic passing game with designed spaces for the QB to escape and scramble into

and tee martin's been cool and i think he's a good coach but unless you've seen more than i have of the inside of the ravens organisation, but what makes you so certain that he's this offensive guru/savant?

I've been on the Tee Martin bandwagon all year-apparently somebody else sees what I see....

what is it exactly that you're seeing?
